  1. I was down there recently. I think for cyclists who used to ride south to north they now have to use 2nd road or ride against the flow, or on the pavement by the beach. The legal way is use 2nd road which is extremely dangerous looking at the traffic or break the law, which most seem to do, and personally I don't blame them. The least the council could do is put in cycle lanes for them. Also I never saw a problem with the road being two way, it was rarely overcrowded and just the odd idiot going fast which you still have.

  2. Did the extension yesterday. No problems or surprises. No questions about foreign income and taxation either.

I do the Yellow book method because I have it and Immigration in the past have said if you have the Yellow house book no need for TM30.

Biggest problem was the foreigners in the queue before me not having their stuff together and 2 not even present when their number was called. The young man who checks everything was very efficient again, hope he stays in that job, a big improvement since he started.

  3. I will see how it pans out especially with the bank book as the branch in the Big C mall opens at 10.30 so I will get the letter today update the bank book today and go first thing tomorrow. Its difficult to update the book same day when immigration opens before the bank.

Asked about the the TM30 a couple of times before and was told if I have the Yellow house book I don't need one, that was a few months ago, but after they started fining many people for not having one.

I will post what happened and what they wanted and what they didn't later.

  4. Can't search for this as my or the sites search isn't  working, and I have to do this soon.

What are the latest docs required for the ext of stay retirement. Off the top of my head.

1/ Bank book updated showing 800,00 in account.

2/Bank letter with current amount and name in it, dated and signed.

3/ Yellow, house book showing residency.

    4/ Photo 1

    5/ Passport

Photocopies of all pages of bankbook since last ext of stay and name page.

    Photocopies of yellow house book.

Photocopies of Passport photo page. Visa page and last visa stamp.

Also my bank has closed and I now have to go to the Big C Sattahip for the bank letter, which doesn't open until 10-30 so would the letter and updated bank book still be acceptable the morning after? I wouldn't be able to start the process until after lunch and don't want to be sent home, come back tomorrow which happened once for my 90 day report.

If I have forgotten anything please advise.

    Thanks

I had a similar requirement for proof of residence, - in fact a change of address, that is only a utility bill, signed by a lawyer or the British Embassy.

Though my home receives two utility bill every month (created from devices that read the meters) and in Thai language. Both are addressed exactly where I live but to my wife. They do not lend themselves to be translated.

When notifying the Insurance Company (re my private pension) by registered post of my change of address nearly thirteen months ago, they sent a written reply to my new address that I received stating that a the utility bill as mentioned above and a signed copy of my passport was required. I explained it could not be done and instead, I sent them a copy of each of my utility bills and 12 other proofs including a video of me outside and inside my house. I sent a copy of my driving licence back and front showing the address in Thai and English.

In addition, I sent a certificate of residence issued at Immigration, different pages of my passport. I did all this by email and it was received by them. I then received a reply stating that only a (f)utility bill was acceptable. I told them and sent a copy of my Government change of address that required nothing except me advising them of it. It was then I decided that I would tell them I hadn't moved after all and if they wanted to send anything to me, the old address and the new address was OK for me to receive them.

About two weeks ago, I received another letter - computer generated, by post taking seven weeks to get here that ignored everything in my emails and still insisting on a utility bill.

    I have given up!

Yep! Sounds par for the course. I have sent passport copy, HMRC self assessment letter, Legal and General letter, Military pension letter not dated, driving licence Thai as it has address here on it in English, and they have now asked for a copy of my birth cert.

OP, you need to outline your status in Thailand.....permission of stay wise.

Available from immigration is a certificate of residence.

Why does this need to be in English.

Don't be vague . If it's legal matter just say so.

I am trying to transfer a UK pension and they want proof of my address in Thailand. They need to be able to read it too.

If you have any overseas bank accounts they probably have your address in Thailand in English on the account. If they don’t mail physical statements out then you can probably download one from online banking as a PDF.

Cell phone bills are not normally accepted for proof of residence address these days. For utility bills it seems electric bills are usually the only ones accepted now. Sometimes they will accept an apartment lease though.

Otherwise immigration is probably your only other option.

My bank is in the UK and I have my sons address registered with them, British banks are closing their accounts with expats, definitely not going there and telling them I live in Thailand.

  8. For legal reasons I need to prove where I am currently living in Thailand it also has to be in English. I don't think my bank will put my name and address on a statement or letter. Is the immigration proof of address in English I can't honestly remember? They have actually asked for either a utility bill, which are all in Thai and in my wife's name or a bank statement, I tried to get one for my daughters passport application and her bank wouldn't do it. I think they will accept any formal letter dated within the last 3 months. Any helpful advice appreciated.

That house and land be in the women's name. I'm more into live music than gardening. I rarely see adults using pools much. The fun wears off quickly.

I swim almost every day 500m+ for the past 6 years. I wouldn't call it fun but exercise. Wherever you live it's always nice to have a few trusted friends and a hobby to stop you going insane. I cycle too and sometimes go fishing. But do something, if you like music, play a guitar or another instrument. Keep away from the bars and daytime boozing.

My thoughts are that you should try reading any of the numerous threads that already exist on this subject rather than add yet another one! Try this one, start at the end and work back.

I missed this article somehow. However it seems very clear it will not affect people from countries with a double taxation agreement. Thank you for posting.

  11. I went to both a couple of years ago. Kamphaeng Phet has nice ruins well worth a walk around. We drove on to Mae Sot and spent a night there then drove south to Umphang to visit Thi lor su waterfall which is quite impressive. That's quite a long winding drive and apart from a lazy raft ride down the river and waterfall not much else to do. Had to return to Mae Sot which doesn't seem to have much going for it except for the Burma border which was closed due to Covid. We drove up to Mae Hong Son and not much at all along the boring windy road until close to Mae Hong Son itself.
