  1. Yep! Sounds par for the course. I have sent passport copy, HMRC self assessment letter, Legal and General letter, Military pension letter not dated, driving licence Thai as it has address here on it in English, and they have now asked for a copy of my birth cert.
  2. I am trying to transfer a UK pension and they want proof of my address in Thailand. They need to be able to read it too.
  3. I was hoping they did it in English, 3 years since I got one for my driving licence and I cannot remember, but think it must have been in Thai.
  4. Unfortunately my banks are Kasikorn and Ayuthaya and they have both refused.
  5. My bank is in the UK and I have my sons address registered with them, British banks are closing their accounts with expats, definitely not going there and telling them I live in Thailand.
  6. Health insurance people may do it for me their English though is very poor., True visions is in the wife's name it may be possible to change things. I have an appointment at BKK Hospital later this year maybe they could send me a reminder to my address? Thanks all.
  7. For legal reasons I need to prove where I am currently living in Thailand it also has to be in English. I don't think my bank will put my name and address on a statement or letter. Is the immigration proof of address in English I can't honestly remember? They have actually asked for either a utility bill, which are all in Thai and in my wife's name or a bank statement, I tried to get one for my daughters passport application and her bank wouldn't do it. I think they will accept any formal letter dated within the last 3 months. Any helpful advice appreciated.
  8. I swim almost every day 500m+ for the past 6 years. I wouldn't call it fun but exercise. Wherever you live it's always nice to have a few trusted friends and a hobby to stop you going insane. I cycle too and sometimes go fishing. But do something, if you like music, play a guitar or another instrument. Keep away from the bars and daytime boozing.
  9. Must have been here too long. Things seemed so much easier and less confusing 15 years ago.
  10. I missed this article somehow. However it seems very clear it will not affect people from countries with a double taxation agreement. Thank you for posting.
  11. Thanks I must have missed the original article, and I knew the UK has a double tax agreement with Thailand. Wouldn't put it past the Thais to tax you and then make it difficult for you to claim back. No offence taken.
  12. There doesn't seem any real info around, but apparently this will come into effect on January 1st 2024, not far away at all. Does anyone actually know what the Taxation rate is in Thailand and is there a personal allowance free of Tax like in the UK.? It's possible Ex Pats will be able to claim their pensions tax free if you can prove tax has already been paid at country of origin. Some things are difficult to prove. I rely on income from a rented property and a small private pension and to be honest paying another 10% tax here would probably be the final straw even though I have a wife and child here. I was going to buy a car here soon to replace my old truck however I may have to put that on hold until there is some clarification on the issue. I could bring some money over before January to avoid the potential issue of the truck purchase. Another case of Thailand killing the Golden Goose not satisfied with us spending our pensions here they want more. What are your thoughts?
  13. I went to both a couple of years ago. Kamphaeng Phet has nice ruins well worth a walk around. We drove on to Mae Sot and spent a night there then drove south to Umphang to visit Thi lor su waterfall which is quite impressive. That's quite a long winding drive and apart from a lazy raft ride down the river and waterfall not much else to do. Had to return to Mae Sot which doesn't seem to have much going for it except for the Burma border which was closed due to Covid. We drove up to Mae Hong Son and not much at all along the boring windy road until close to Mae Hong Son itself.
  14. Perhaps it's mysterious because no one has been reported missing.
  15. They may market it it as a subsidy but in reality it is just a reduction of tax, for the diesel.
  16. Doing this for my daughter after her birthday. Read somewhere that all passport applications from overseas have to be done on line. I thought it had to be done at the Trendy building in Bangkok? Perhaps it was just an agency or someone trying to drum up trade. Anyone just done it???
  17. Plenty of yoghurt on the shelves I see??
  18. Interesting topic as my 16 year old daughter has shown interest in becoming a dentist, here in Thailand. Starting off on your own business has to be very expensive, and locally seem to be everywhere. I didn't even realize that government hospitals do dentistry. Good news about being a dentist is she could go to the UK and get well paid even being an NHS dentist as she has a UK passport.
  19. I buy only long life now and have plenty so haven't looked. The reason I buy long life is in April I threw away one 2 litre bottle of full fat milk with 4 days left on best before date, and a bag of milk not dated which was off when I opened it.
  20. There are private hospices around that will do end of life care. Unfortunately it comes at a cost, however it is much cheaper than Europe or the US.
  21. Where I taught the teachers ate the same. I couldn't eat everything (me being fussy) but the food wasn't bad. Had a little soup usually then rice and meat etc. with a piece or slice of fruit. If no fruit a small desert. I guess it's all down to the school and how well the school polices it's food contractors. The school was at Ban Chang and the kids did OK.
  22. Having issues with my Toyota dealer too. Love the vehicles but will have to to think long and hard about buying a new one, which is due soon. Toyota need to check on their dealerships or will lose custom.
