Public outrage over grandfather who murdered his 12-year-old granddaughter with a baseball bat
Police escorted the accused man, Mr Yutthana Madee or ‘Ai Jab’, as the Criminal Court ordered his detention at Bangkok Remand Prison when family members and the police objected to a bail request. He faced charges connected with the brutal killing of his granddaughter, the use of illegal narcotics and the concealment of her body. The Ministry of Justice has offered to expedite assistance to the distraught family of the young girl who met a brutal end at the hands of a family loved one. Her grandfather was taken to Bangkok Remand Prison after police and family members strongly objected to a bail request on Thursday. The Criminal Court on Thursday denied bail to a middle-aged grandfather who appeared before it on charges in connection with the brutal murder of his granddaughter in the city last Sunday. The case has caused public outrage and shock in the city prompting the Ministry of Justice to encourage the distraught family to apply for compensation under 2001 legislation for the victims in criminal cases. A grandfather who murdered his young granddaughter was denied bail by the Criminal Court sitting in the Ratchadapesik road area of Bangkok on Thursday when brought before it charged in connection with her death. by James Morris and Son Nguyen Full story: https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/07/07/grandpa-charged-with-granddaughters-death-bangkok/ -- © Copyright Thai Examiner 2023-07-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Politicians skating on thin ice as the economy may not be able to withstand a political stalemate by Joseph O' Connor Apart from some good news delivered this week by Mr Wichanun Niwatjinda (right) of the Ministry of Commerce in Bangkok on inflation in Thailand, which is on track to be the lowest in the ASEAN bloc, there are clear warning signals from the economy. Capital continues to flow out of the country. A vote that delivers a new government led by Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat would lift investor sentiment immediately next Thursday but all the political signs suggest this may not be the case. Apart from some good news delivered this week by Mr Wichanun Niwatjinda (right) of the Ministry of Commerce in Bangkok on inflation in Thailand, which is on track to be the lowest in the ASEAN bloc, there are clear warning signals from the economy. Capital continues to flow out of the country. A vote that delivers a new government led by Move Forward Party leader Pita Limjaroenrat would lift investor sentiment immediately next Thursday but all the political signs suggest this may not be the case. Another potential positive is good news this week from the Ministry of Commerce with Thailand on target for the 6th lowest rate of inflation in the world and the lowest cost of living rise in the ten-member ASEAN bloc in Southeast Asia. Thailand is already experiencing capital outflows and falling confidence as a result of rising political instability with a clear warning now coming from the country’s financial and investment markets that a protracted battle to elect a new Prime Minister after parliament meets for that purpose on Thursday, July 13th will see further sell-offs with a political stalemate threatening to dangerously exacerbate already serious problems facing the economy with disturbing setbacks in China, a volatile currency, a slowdown in manufacturing and real concern that the country’s inflated level of private banking debt may be a balloon on the verge of popping. Investors in Thailand are watching the country’s tense political process play out very carefully with investment professionals predicting that the course of events over the next few weeks linked to the formation of a government, will have a direct impact on capital flows into and out of the country. by Joseph O' Connor #news Full story: https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/07/07/politics-skating-on-thin-ice-with-economy-warnings-financial-markets-election-pm/ -- © Copyright Thai Examiner 2023-07-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Pita Should Be Given Just One Chance Of Being Voted For PM: Settha
PHEU THAI CANDIDATE FOR prime minister Settha Taweesin suggested today (July 7) Move Forward leader/prime minister-designate Pita Limjaroenrat be given just one chance of being voted head of government. Settha, known as personally close to deposed prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra, advised Pita be given just one chance of being voted prime minister during a joint House/Senate session scheduled for July 13 and that the Move Forward leader should not be given a second chance scheduled for July 19. His comments apparently contrasted with those earlier made by House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha who insisted that Pita be given a second chance if he eventually fails to get enough support from the MPs and senators in the first round of joint voting. Given a combined force of 312 MPs on his side, Pita will need at least 64 more votes from non-coalition MPs and senators to make a minimum of 376 votes of support as required by law. From jailbird to jailbreaker: Former inmate’s knife attack shocks Chiang Mai district
Thai police arrested a former jailbird after he attacked a 66 year old neighbour with a knife in the Mea Pong district in the northern province of Chiang Mai. The habitual criminal’s younger sister expressed pride in her brother before he left for jail. In the early hours of Saturday, July 1, the 66 year old victim, Prachan Khameye, was found covered in blood after the brutal knife attack at his house following the assault by his 36 year old neighbour, Chaiya Tana. Prachan had multiple stab wounds to his body and a serious wound to his neck. Chaiya then fled from the scene after the knife attack and hid in a nearby forest. Last night the brutal recidivist contacted a close friend for help. His 34 year old friend, Boonrod, however, managed to persuade Chaiya to surrender to the police. Related news During questioning at Mae Pong Police Station, Chaiya revealed that he was drinking alcohol with his wife at home when Prachan, who lived only 100 metres away, joined them. Chaiya then requested Prachan repay a debt which made Prachan angry. He then got up and returned home. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ Daorung Sinnok and กูรู้.. โลกรู้ #news Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/from-jailbird-to-jailbreaker-former-inmates-knife-attack-shocks-chiang-mai-district -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thai Senior Immigration Officer Vows to Purge the Country of All Overstayers Within Three Months
Immigration Bureau commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Pakphumpipat Sajjaphan held a seminar on Thursday, July 6th, to equip immigration officers with the necessary skills to effectively address the issue of overstayers. Overstaying is when someone stays past the date of their legal visa without permission from Thai Immigration. Within the next three months, the number of overstayers should be reduced to zero, as they are more likely to engage in criminal activities, which can adversely affect Thailand’s tourism industry, Pol. Lt. Gen. Pakphumpipat said. He added that the immigration bureau would also develop complex investigative strategies to reach this goal of zero by focusing on dismantling networks involved in smuggling foreign individuals into the country. Immigration officers would be deployed regularly to conduct on-site passport checks at places, especially entertainment venues nationwide, and businesses would be required to report the accommodation of foreign individuals to the officers. Thai law allows random checks of foreign nationals to ensure they are legally residing within the Kingdom. It is also the law to have legal identification on one’s person at all times.
