Earthquake investigation uncovers overlooked fault line behind 4.5 magnitude tremor in Northern Thailand
Phitsanulok and Pichit provinces, situated in the North of Thailand, were recently shaken by a significant earthquake, rated 4.5 on the Richter scale. The tremors caused noticeable damage to various buildings, including residences, religious sites, schools, and a hospital. As the earthquake investigation progresses, the fault line is currently under scrutiny by the Department of Mineral Resources and is suspected to be responsible for these tremors. Suvapak Imsamut, Deputy Chief and spokesperson for the department addressed the situation in a news conference held yesterday. He informed the public of the department’s keen interest and ongoing earthquake investigation concerning the tremors that occurred late last week. “Our previous stance was that this hidden fault remains inactive. Nevertheless, it might be necessary to shift it to the active fault list. This move, however, will only follow after comprehensive analysis and official approval of our findings,” stated Suvapak. Suvapak also mentioned the categorisation of Phitsanulok province under the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning as a “green zone” indicating the region’s vulnerability and needing quake-induced damage control methods. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post #news Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/overlooked-fault-line-triggers-4-5-magnitude-earthquake-in-northern-thailand -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Toll evasion leads to Cambodian driver’s arrest over unpaid Thai charges totaling 71,580 Baht
A Cambodian driver named Term Nuo was apprehended by Highway Police yesterday, after driving through a toll gate in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district without settling accrued toll charges totalling over 70,000 baht. The toll evasion arrest took place at 1.30am, led by the acting chief of Highway Police, Pol Maj Gen Jaroonkiat Pankaew. In recent history, an effort was made to improve traffic flow along Highway 9 between Bang Pa-in and Bang Phli, resulting in the introduction of barrier-free M-Flow channels last year. Motorists are allowed to use these channels, even in the absence of an M-Flow account, yet are obliged to pay the outstanding charges within two days of passage. It’s also worth noting that a failure to timely settle these charges attracts a fine equal to ten times the incurred charge. The vehicle operated by Term Nuo, a Toyota pickup truck, was among the top twenty vehicles featured on the police’s list of toll evasion offenders. by Mitch Connor Top Photo courtesy of Istock #news Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/cambodian-driver-arrested-over-unpaid-thai-toll-charges-totalling-71580-baht-2 -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Police call on Don Mueang Airport to make CCTV footage of freak escalator walk accident available by James Morris and Son Nguyen The son of the 57-year-old woman named Ms Supannie Kittiratana who is being treated in a sterile environment at Bumrungrad Hospital, said that his mother was suffering mentally from the shock and trauma of what happened to her and was receiving psychiatric care. Police investigating the shocking incident last Thursday at Don Mueang International Airport in which a 57-year-old woman lost the bottom half of her left leg on an automatic walkway escalator appealed, on Tuesday, for the airport’s authorities to hand over CCTV footage of the accident as officers try to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the freak occurrence in which the woman’s legs become enmeshed in the device. Following a conference on Tuesday between investigators at Don Mueang Police Station, the Superintendent, Police Colonel Adirek Thongkaemkaew made the appeal noting that, in the past, airport authorities had always cooperated promptly and even now, the case may not be delayed. Last week, the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the case as of major importance to the kingdom and its foreign tourism economy at this time while calling for a rigorous enquiry. Bangkok school security guard rapes 14 year old student
A security guard at a school in the Sai Mai district of Bangkok has been accused of raping a 14 year old student. The victim, named A, sought help from the non-profit organisation Saimai Survive to accompany her to Sai Mai Police Station to report the alleged sexual assault by a 52 year old Thai man named Santi Narknoi. A explained to the police that she has known Santi for three years since she started studying at the school. She respected and trusted him because he used to give her a ride back home when her parents were unavailable to pick her up. On the incident day, June 27, Santi volunteered to take her home. While they were on the way, Santi stopped at his condominium and informed A that he needed to get his power bank. He urged A to wait for him in his room, as he had to search for it. However, Santi immediately sexually assaulted her once she was in his room before taking her home. A did not dare reveal the incident to her parents. The following day the suspect was not at the school so she decided to report the issue to her teacher. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ สายไหมต้องรอด-เพจสำรอง #news Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/bangkok-school-security-guard-rapes-14-year-old-student -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
