Two deaths linked with cannabis use and violent incidents reported in recent days by Thai police
Krabi police on Monday night arrested a 36-year-old identified as Mr Bless Thongtan, who appeared to be hallucinating and told them that God had instructed him to murder a 32-year-old local neighbour and durian farmer. The suspect told police that he had been smoking marijuana but had also taken two methamphetamine tablets. Evidence in both cases speaks to the perpetrators experiencing a hallucinatory state and not being able to take responsibility for their actions. In the first incident, in Nong Bua Lamphu, police sought a toxicology report from an autopsy on a 14-year-old boy addicted to marijuana who had just attacked his grandfather with a cleaver before hanging himself from a tree. Two people have died in Thai provinces in recent days in violent incidents linked to marijuana use. One of the cases, on Monday night, involved a 36-year-old man in a state of hallucination who attacked a neighbour in Krabi, killing the man with a machete. The man admitted to police he had taken methamphetamine pills and smoked marijuana while on Sunday night, in Nong Bua Lamphu, a 14-year-old boy, reportedly addicted to cannabis, committed suicide after attacking his grandfather. Police later found a marijuana bong discarded on his bed in a hut near the house. The scale of Thailand’s drug epidemic and perhaps an insight into the public’s concerns over the free availability of marijuana in the kingdom can be seen from two violent incidents in the past two days involving a 14-year-old in Nong Bua Lamphu and a 36-year-old perpetrator in Krabi. by James Morris and Son Nguyen #news Full story: https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/06/28/two-deaths-linked-with-cannabis-and-violence-krabi-nong-bua-lamphu/ -- © Copyright Thai Examiner 2023-06-28 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Hat Yai’s Unconventional Road Markings Prompt Urgent Rectification
The Mayor of Hat Yai has urgently ordered rectification of unconventional traffic lines on Sriphuwanarot Road. Unlike elsewhere, the lines in Hat Yai veer around obstacles. A viral social media post sparked curiosity and laughter among residents, questioning the unusual road marking practice. Instead of straight lines, the Hat Yai City Municipality opted to beat the lines around metal panels used for raised houses at two points. Shared in the local Facebook group, "Laughing Together, Home, and City," the pictures prompted discussions about risks and the possibility of painting similar lines around parked cars, reported Thai Rath. Picture: Thai Rath After being informed, Mayor Pol. Col. Sakorn Thongmoonee promptly ordered inspections and rectification. The Secretary to the Mayor, Mr. Manop Pengthum, revealed that the road marking was done the previous night with an ill-equipped team unable to lift heavy metal panels. Consequently, they beat the lines around the obstacles as a temporary solution, witnessed by social media users. The Mayor and the team swiftly addressed the issue on-site, removing the metal panels and scraping off the existing paint. Repainting was delayed due to rain, but the road conditions will be reevaluated, and if dry, the lines will be promptly repainted. Picture: Thai Rath Apologies were issued for the oversight and inconvenience caused. The Hat Yai City Municipality is committed to improving infrastructure and residents' quality of life. #news Top Picture: Thai Rath -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-06-28 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Reckless Youth Throw Stones at Train Passengers, Urging Authorities to Take Action to Protect Passengers
Picture: Daily News In a startling incident, a group of reckless teenagers was observed hurling stones at a train in the vicinity of the Airport Link Rama 9 station, putting passengers at significant risk. This occurrence has caused widespread alarm and captured the attention of online users, as a video shared by the popular Facebook page Drama-addict documented the harrowing experience of one passenger aboard the train, reported Daily News. The footage exhibits a gang of youngsters giving chase to the train and relentlessly pelting it with objects, prominently stones. Despite the desperate pleas from passengers, who shouted that the police were on their way, the youths persisted in their actions. It is worth noting that a substantial number of passengers were present on the train during this distressing episode. Accompanying the video, Drama-addict implored the relevant authorities to take immediate action, emphasizing, "We urge the relevant agencies to address this matter promptly... It poses a grave danger to train passengers. Location: Suvarnabhumi Station, near the Airport Link Rama 9 station." While the post garnered considerable attention and drew criticism for the exhibited behavior, no reports have surfaced regarding the events leading up to this incident or the underlying causes behind the reckless conduct of this particular group of youths. The public anxiously awaits further updates as authorities investigate and implement appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents from recurring. We thank Drama-addict for providing the valuable information and footage. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2023-06-28 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Mr. Prinya Thaewanarumitkul, head of Thammasat University’s law faculty, said the unamended regulation led to suspects against whom charges were later dropped or who had died to continue having criminal record. To remove their name from the listing they had to prove that it was a wrongful arrest or the suspect had died. Discussions between relevant agencies including the courts, prosecutors and the police discovered that it was the police who were directly involved in this listing. Each year there are more than 800,000 criminal cases involving more than 13 million Thais, or one in every six Thai citizens, and they previously all were listed as having a criminal record. Pattaya Residents Protest Against Construction of Median Strip on Thepprasit Road
UPDATE: Pattaya Mayor Addresses Concerns about Roadwork on Thepprasit Road By Tanakorn Panyadee Pattaya — Pattaya mayor Poramase Ngampiches addressed concerns about the construction of a median strip on Thepprasit Road, which the residents said would worsen traffic. During a city council meeting on Monday, June 26th, Poramase mentioned a recent protest staged by people living near Thepprasit Road. The people said they opposed the addition of a median strip on Thepprasit Road because it would reduce U-turns, narrow the road, and worsen congestion. The building of a 90-cm-wide road island is one of the four ongoing roadworks on Thepprasit Road. In response to the complaint, Poramase said the issue has been repeatedly raised by residents living in the area, and he has been looking for optimal solutions.
