The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has until this Sunday to conclude a deal with FIFA for World Cup 2022 broadcast rights in Thailand, otherwise the Thai audience will miss out on the chance to see the matches. SAT Governor Kongsak Yodmanee admitted that, as of today (Monday), they are still short of about one billion baht to meet the cost of the broadcast rights, as they continue trying to negotiate a further discount. A memorandum of understanding is scheduled to be signed today between the SAT and the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) for the 600 million baht already pledged by the NBTC board. Sanook Thai Caption: Shot in an "important area" Police in Chumphon, southern Thailand went to a row of flats in Muang district after a shooting. In a room they found a lot of blood. A man called Somchai from Laos had been shot in the groin with a shotgun and taken to hospital. The shooter was Bunterm, the former husband of Somchai's wife. They found a shotgun in his wardrobe. There was still one cartridge in the gun. He claimed that he had been about to put his gun in his vehicle and had passed the room where his ex wife now lived with Somchai. There were a lot of people from Loei in the rooms, all lottery sellers like him. He claimed he dropped in to ask his wife something and the gun went off entirely by accident hitting Somchai in the groin. Shocked by this turn of events he went home and put the gun away and locked the door. Police charged him with attempted murder and weapons offences and took him away, reported Sanook. Ubonrat, 32, Somchai's wife said they had all lived amicably in close proximity for many years but her ex had got very jealous lately. She said he turned up after they had been out to sell lottery tickets and he went in and shot Somchai. Doctors told her his nether regions would never function again. She said in tears that was not important, she hoped he lived, that was all. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. During the inauguration of the 19th Parliament’s second ordinary session on Sunday, King Abdullah II of Jordan praised the vision of economic modernization that binds governments. He pointed out that comprehensive modernization with its political, economic and administrative tracks is a great national project on which all national goals and efforts must be focused. He added that political and economic modernization is not complete without an effective public administration that provides the best services to citizens and adopts modern technology as a means to speed up achievement and productivity. King Abdullah underscored that Jordan will continue to focus on defending the Palestinian cause, which is a top priority for Jordan. In his throne speech, he said that Jordan would continue to support the Palestinian cause and that the solution begins with ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state. " As their closest neighbors, we will work to ensure they are key partners in regional projects, and we will not accept their marginalization, reaffirming, at the same time, that economic empowerment cannot replace a political solution," the Jordanian monarch added. -- © Copyright A24 News Agency 2022-11-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Elderly, Ill, Young Children Urged to Get COVID Jabs as Cases Soar BANGKOK, Nov 14 (TNA) – The Department of Disease Control urged elderly people and those with underlying illnesses including young children to receive COVID-19 vaccination as it expected the number of seriously ill patients to rise in 2-4 weeks due to the presently increasing COVID-19 cases and patients admitted to hospitals. Dr Tares Krassanairawiwong, director-general of the department, said that the number of COVID-19 cases and inpatients in the 45th week of 2022 climbed up by 12.8% from the previous week. The number of severely ill patients went up slightly while fatal cases remained stable. The situation was expected as there would naturally be small waves after COVID-19 was declared a communicable disease under surveillance on Oct 1, he said. Sanook Thai Caption: He started it and ended up worse off It was a fight that attracted a lot of social media attention after many saw CCTV. A thin man had walked into a noodle shop in Buriram where a fat man was sitting alone at a table. No one else was in the restaurant on Thursday morning. All the other tables were free but the thin guy went to sit at the fat guy's table. Soon a violent argument developed in which they both "bottled' each other before the fat guy fell unconscious and ultimately needed 50 stitches to head wounds. Twenty soft drinks bottles were smashed as the two protagonists went for each other. Sanook followed up. The thin guy was Phanudech, 25, who said he knew the fat guy as someone who lived with friends. He claimed that fatty smiled at him so he sat down with him. He noticed his large number of tattoos and asked what he had done time for. The reply was "attempted murder - I did seven years". At this point the fat guy attacked him with a bottle and the fight escalated until all the bottles in a storage area were used up. Khomsan or Num, 38, the fat guy said he'd never met the other person before and he was being nosey about his past. He said that he told the guy he sold pork and the thin guy said: "So do you sell dog too." He admitted he was given to violent outbursts but the thin guy was well out of order and had tried to kill him after he fell over and couldn't defend himself. He called him a wannabe gangster. Num's mum said the family had paid 14,000 baht in damages to the restaurant. The spat looks set to wind up in court. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Sanook Thai Caption: Please come down from there Makkasan police lieutenant colonel Narongdech Butnampetch responded after a Myanmar man called Adee perched himself on a bridge over a crossing in downtown Bangkok and threatened to kill himself. Traffic in both directions on Petch Uthai Road had come to a standstill as the drama unfolded. Narongdech removed his tunic and sat down to sympathize with the plight of Adee. Picture: Sanook He said he had lost his job and wanted to go home to Myanmar but had no money. Narongdech said that the Thais and people from Myanmar were all brothers and sisters and he appealed to Adee not to hurt himself. "Believe your elder sibling", he intoned earnestly. The plea worked and Adee got down from the precipice and even "graaped" the Thai police officer in a highly respectful show of thanks, reported Sanook. He was then taken away to the police station to calm down and be processed according to the law. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. COVID-19 infections in Thailand last week increased 12.8%, compared to a week earlier, and it is anticipated that the number of patients requiring hospitalisation is likely to increase in the next 2-4 weeks, according to Dr. Tares Krassanairawiwong, director-general of the Disease Control Department. Describing the rising number of infections as just a “small wave”, he said that the situation was not unexpected, with the fatality rate remaining stable despite the increase in more serious cases, after Thailand designated COVID-19 as a “communicable disease under watch” on October 1st. He disclosed that increased hospitalisations were reported in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces, as well as in tourist provinces in eastern and southern regions, adding that more than half of the cases reported between November 6th and 12th are not vaccinated or not fully vaccinated, leaving them vulnerable. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that on Friday a well dressed, respectable looking woman had gone into a well known shop in downtown Hat Yai, southern Thailand, to order 300 ready made meals for Sunday 13th. The lady was in a car and appeared believable. She ordered crispy pork on rice, red pork on rice and duck rice and said she'd be along at 10 am Sunday to pick up the food. She said she was going to make merit and give the food to monks. She never showed up. Orn Khao Moo Daeng shop owner Ai Jansri, 53, said by midday it was obvious the hoaxer was not coming and he was in tears going weak at the knees. So he posted his plight on social media and the local community rallied round. Picture: Thai Rath Some people came to buy dozens of packs, others wanted home delivery. By 3 pm he'd sold the whole lot and the day was saved. It all cost 15,000 baht. No one thought to get the phone number of the woman because she seemed so respectable. Some customers said the owner should report the matter to the police. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-14 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
