On the occasion of Thailand’s hosting of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in 2022, Thai massage and spa services will be provided to members of the press covering the event. The aim is to help demonstrate the expert skills of Thai workers to the foreign community. Thai massage is considered one of Thailand’s soft power assets, which the Department of Skill Development under the Ministry of Labor will be demonstrating at the APEC leaders’ meeting. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that the chief of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat had ordered the immediate transfer of the commander of the Chonburi provincial police away from his duties in the eastern seaboard province. The transfer to RTP HQ in Bangkok is immediate and will be ongoing until further notice. An investigation is underway into the behavior of Pol Maj-Gen Kitthanet Thanananwisin. Damrongsak said their are grounds for suspicion of misconduct by Kitthanet in both a disciplinary and possibly criminal capacity. Keeping him in Chonburi could hinder an investigation and leave the RTP open to claims of misconduct. The transfer concerns the changing of a suspect in a case involving debt reclaiming that resulted in a pistol whipping at a pool villa in Jomtien, Pattaya. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall has once again been chosen to host world leaders at the APEC Gala Dinner, reprising its role after two decades. On Thursday night, APEC leaders will gather at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall, not just for a sumptuous dinner, but to also feast their eyes on a spectacular illuminated boat procession and later to float their own decorative krathongs. They will spend about two hours from 8pm at the same spot where their predecessors sat during APEC 2003. The event some 20 years ago was prefaced by a huge renovation project on the riverside complex, lasting from July 2002 and October 2003. Now, history will repeat when world leaders take their seats on Thursday. New marijuana regulations could spell the end of vans selling weed, smoking cafes and online flowers Picture: Thai Rath The new regulations issued last Friday in Thailand concerning the sale and distribution of marijuana could see radical changes in how the drug is sold. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1277827-new-marijuana-regulations-could-spell-the-end-of-vans-selling-weed-smoking-cafes-and-online-flowers/ -
Picture: Thai Rath The new regulations issued last Friday in Thailand concerning the sale and distribution of marijuana could see radical changes in how the drug is sold. It could see the end of vans selling weed in the streets as well as vendors who move around. Online businesses and shops also look set to be hit hard with advertising restrictions especially concerning the sale of marijuana flowers. Home growers will have to wait until the New Year to find out how the Cannabis Act will affect them. Dr Thongchai Lertwilairatanapong, director of the Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine department, spoke to Thai Rath after regulations changed on November 11th. These are designed to rein in some of the free for all after the removal of the drug from the narcotics list back on June 9th. Thongchai said that marijuana flowers - that contain the most THC - are of most concern and must not be put in food. Any additives such as leaves must be clearly stipulated by restaurants. People have the right to complain and get action for annoyance and smell of ganja products in public places. If food contains flowers consumers can prosecute restaurant and business owners. Vehicles such as vans selling marijuana are illegal now. Places that have registered to sell the drug must have fixed premises - vans are clearly a violation of this rule. This could see the end of places like Sukhumvit Soi 11 in Bangkok, for example, where vans line the street, notes ASEAN NOW. It could also mark the end of street stalls selling weed in the area. It is not just Bangkok, this is happening all over Thailand, especially in tourist areas and has become commonplace. Cafes connected to businesses selling weed are also banned now. The public may not smoke marijuana on the premises and it can only be consumed on-site if for medical purposes, said Dr Thongchai. Picture: Thai Rath This could affect many places in Pattaya where cafes have sprung up. It was previously thought that so long as there was no annoyance then it was ok. That has apparently changed. The selling of flowers online is now being reined in. No overt advertising is allowed both online and in shops and licences look set to be removed from licensed vendors if they do. How this will affect businesses selling online will be seen in the coming days. A total of 5,000 licences have been issued to sell. Much will depend on if and when the Thai police get involved in what are still Ministry of Public Health rules. The Cannabis Act has still not come into force. That will be in the new year when growers will discover what they can and cannot do regarding marijuana. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. This week, Thailand will get its moment under the sun when it hosts one of the major diplomatic events of the year — the APEC leaders’ summit — from Monday to Friday. Being held under the theme “Open. Connect. Balance.”, the event takes place at a vulnerable period in global affairs, marked by geo-political conflict and economic challenges. Created in 1989, the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation is a regional forum aimed at advancing economic integration on a voluntary basis. This principle is different from other free trade agreements, which require reciprocal cuts in tariff rates. APEC now has 21 economies as members encompassing developed and emerging markets, namely: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, United States of America, and Vietnam. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/what-hosting-the-apec-summit-means-to-thailand/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2022-11-15 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. The grouping covers about 2.9 billion, or 38 percent of world population, with a combined gross domestic product (GDP) of US$52 trillion in 2020, accounting for 62 percent of world GDP and combined trade accounting for 48 percent of global trade in 2020, according to apec.org.

Opinion – By Ken Mathis Lohatepanont After the 2014 coup, the then leader of the coup – General Prayut Chan-o-cha came to power insisting that he had never wanted the post of premier for himself. “I didn’t want to be prime minister. It’s not cool. It’s tiring,” he said in a press conference shortly after the start of his tenure. That was then but since then there is now an abundance of evidence that things have changed since then. In 2019, Prayut angrily yelled, “You can try to force me out…I’m not leaving!” This year, he clung on to power successfully after the Constitutional Court ruled that he had not yet breached the 8-year term limit. And now, it appears, he has his eyes on prolonging his time in office even further beyond into the next election, with his supporters steadily building up the Ruam Thai Sang Chart party as his next support base.
