Siam Rath reported that officials from the Transport Ministry and DLT have completed consultations with taxi companies and other organizations over raising the prices of taxi fares in the Thai capital. Wirat Phimphanit, an advisor to the Transport Ministry, said that fares would go up but not too much. Measures to adjust meters would help taxi drivers so that it could be done quickly and not give them financial hardship. Department of Land Transport chief Jirut Wisanjit, said that four taxi organisations had accepted the recommendations of the DLT and TDRI, the Thailand Development Research Institute. Flagfall and fare for the first kilometer will be 35 baht for small taxis and 40 baht for larger ones. From 2-10 kilometers it will be 6.5 baht per kilometer. 11-20 kms - 7 baht 21-40 kms - 8 baht 41-60 kms - 8.5 baht 61-80 kms 9 baht Over 81 kms - 10.5 baht. If taxis are stuck in traffic and can't move 6 kilometers/hour the fee will be 3 baht a minute. The plans are expected to be rubber stamped by transport minister Saksayam Chidchob withing the next one to two weeks. It applies only to taxis in Bangkok of which there are 80,000 registered or 60,000 in reality, said the media without explanation of the apparent disparity. ASEAN NOW notes that the flagfall in Bangkok has been 35 baht for many years. The increases appear to be in the kilometer rate though Siam Rath made no comparison with past rates in their report. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Picture: Thai Rath Muang district police in Pattaya rushed to the Aurora gold shop in Lotus on Sukhumvit Road, South Pattaya after an armed robbery, reported Thai Rath. A Thai man of about 160-170 cms in height dressed in black with an upper garment with orange reflective strips went into the shop yesterday evening. He was also wearing a jungle hat and carrying a black bag. He handed over a note to staff who quickly realised the danger and scurried out back. Selling land to foreigners is not selling out - it's "globalization" and normal, academic Popular independent academic Atsadang Yommanak who has 85,000 followers on Facebook joined the debate about Thailand selling land to foreigners. Popular independent academic Atsadang Yommanak who has 85,000 followers on Facebook joined the debate about Thailand selling land to foreigners. Siam Rath called it an alternative viewpoint to the debate that is raging following a government U-turn on allowing well heeled foreigners to own a rai of land for residential purposes. Atsadang said that selling your land to foreigners is not selling your country. It's just a part of modern day globalization and quite normal. It is ridiculous to suggest that Thailand would be in the hands of foreigners leaving Thais as tenants. He pointed to Australia saying that many Chinese buy houses and condos then rent them to Aussies. Singaporeans own many Australian companies. Many Thais have bought land and property abroad. He cited leading public figures like former PM and fugitive Thaksin Shinawatra, Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt, CP group and the owners of Beer Chang. He said there was no need for Thailand to be afraid. He also took a swipe at government critics who blame the government for not developing then shout "treason" when they advocate doing just that by attempting to enact policies commonplace in many countries. Policies that have been in place for decades. He advised people to "Google it" to get a fuller perspective on the issue. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Fort Thanarat – A Serious Army Base, But That’s No All Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Camp Thanarat is based on about 600,000 hectares of land, just before Pranburi town with the entrance on the western side of Phetchakasim Road. The base is home to around 5,000 soldiers but with their families included there is something like 20,000 people living in a small town with schools, a hospital and markets. Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Camp Thanarat is based on about 600,000 hectares of land, just before Pranburi town with the entrance on the western side of Phetchakasim Road. The base is home to around 5,000 soldiers but with their families included there is something like 20,000 people living in a small town with schools, a hospital and markets. Fort Thanarat Camp is one of the largest military camps of the Royal Thai Army, developing the skills of military officers of all ranks from the highest level and for infantry cadets, it also includes an airborne assault battalion. In early 2022, Thai and United States soldiers undertook combat training under the Cobra Gold 2022 joint military exercise. Prior to Covid-19 restrictions the camp also provided opportunities for visiting groups, particularly students to get a taste of army life here with a 10 metre jump tower, cliff climbing, obstacle course and target shooting. There are also some ‘extra curricula’ facilities such as a golf course and sports stadium. The sports stadium has been home to the Hua Hin City Football Club and the golf course is open to the public. The base also has a 150 strong club of cycling enthusiasts. Another feature of Fort Thanarat is the Army Museum. This is a treasure trove of military memorabilia, with weaponry, uniforms, photos and murals through the ages. You can see the hand held spears and swords from conflicts between old Siam and Burma. There are also exhibits of Thomson Machine Guns (1920’s), French muzzle loading muskets (1840’s), Winchester rifles (1860’s), French Mauser rifles (1900’s), German Luger pistols, rocket and grenade launchers, Smith & Western and Browning revolvers and even gas masks. Outside there are retired armored army vehicles and heavy artillery. Within the camp’s compound, there is the Memorial Building of Field Marshall Sarit Thanarat, a collection of his biography, past works, clothes and personal belongings. In an enclosed glass cabinet, you’ll find a very special automatic weapon. This was used by H.M. the King Rama IX during his own army training. It’s proudly displayed and showing the royal insignia with photos of the King in action. Inside the camp, there is a memorial to His Excellency Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat, the 11th former Thai Prime Minister, as a place to display biographies, past works, costumes and personal items. An infantry museum exhibits various ancient weapons. There is a wooden pavilion that the enshrines the statue His Majesty King Chulalongkorn, who reigned as HM King Rama 5. The camp is on the Pranburi River to the west as a place to enjoy nature and recreation. The surrounding area has elaborate gardens and forest trees and nature study and scenic viewpoints with the Pranburi River to the west of the grounds as a natural recreation area with activities such as rock climbing, high tower jumping, shooting. An award was made in the category of tourism promotion and development organization in the 2002 Thailand Tourism Awards. Fort Thanarat is a real army base. Not a tourist resort but well worth a day visit. With Covid restrictions over, plans are now being developed to reopen in December with a direct line centre to enable potential visiting groups to call and inquire about activities and events. Sanook Thai Caption: What a child! It was the latest video featuring Thais who have saved money. This time it went viral on TikTok under the name of zumo4422. It featured a little girl in P4 who went into a gold shop in Serm Thai Complex in Maha Sarakham in the north east of the country, reported Sanook. The girl had saved up 4,000 baht that was neatly packaged in big and small notes. She said she wanted to get a gold ring for her mum's birthday. The shop gave her a special discount and a goody bag to mark her efforts. And told her that if it was the wrong size then her mum could return it within three days. ASEAN NOW notes that Thais are not renowned for the ability to save money, that may explain the spate of stories recently. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-11-09 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
