Sanook Thai Caption: Great! A Thai man has managed to save enough in coins in a piggy bank in just nine months for a down payment on a spanking new Isuzu pick-up. In a TikTok video from the car manufacturer's sales team (isuzu.2022) they showed the man handing over 180,000 baht for counting. Later in the video he did some wai-ing to the steering wheel and flower placing on the front grille - both highly important measures to ensure safety on the Thai roads. A jaunty exchange in comments between the sales person called "Pee Ef" and the customer took place. The customer thanked Pee Ef for providing those lovely little extras and for looking after him so well. Pee Ef responded that he was an inspiration for other Thais trying to save, reported Sanook. It was not revealed how long it took to count 180,000 baht in coins or why the customer had so many coins in such a short space of time. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. There Pornchai, 25, was found dead from gunshot wounds from a cap gun. Shots had penetrated his head and chest and he was found slumped next to a fence. The man who shot him was Suthee, 51, his own father. He was waiting with other relatives to surrender to the custody of the Ubonrat police, reported Thai Rath. Ubonrat chief Pol Col Direkrit Panreuansean said that the son had pestered the father for money to buy liquor and yaba but he had refused and an argument ensued that resulted in the shooting with a cap gun. UPDATE: Gun stealing cop flown back to Bangkok to face Big Joke and big inquiry - he was in charge of the armory Picture: Thai Rath The Nonthaburi sergeant who has admitted to stealing more than 100 police guns was flown back to Bangkok yesterday to the police airport in Ram Intra. After this he was taken away for interrogation by a team of senior RTP bigwigs headed by Pol Gen Surachate "Big Joke" Hakpan. The suspect has admitted to using money from the guns that he sold to associates, shops, pawn shops or other gamblers to fuel his own gambling addiction. Chaowalit Phumkhajorn was in charge of the armory at Pak Kret police station, it has been revealed. He claimed that he only started stealing from April. He pawned or sold Glock, Sig Sauer and Colt Carbines guns getting 20,000 baht each per weapon, reported Thai Rath. Picture: Thai Rath The police think he has been stealing much longer and have already identified nine places where he offloaded weaponry that he should have been guarding. The embarrassing case for the RTP comes as they carry out gun crackdowns nationwide in the wake of the NE nursery massacre. It was further revealed that the suspect was arrested after applying for an emergency travel document and had an accomplice over the border in Laos, a foreign woman. He was about to go to Vientiane when he was arrested at a resort. Police are now appealing for people who may have their guns to come forward. Some 27 have so far been recovered. Surachate said that he is forming a special task force to look into the whole case. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Yet more embarrassment for RTP as gun stealing/ gambling cop nabbed trying to flee Thailand Picture: Thai Rath It is yet another case that will fall into the lap of under pressure and new commander of the Thai police Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat. Picture: Thai Rath It is yet another case that will fall into the lap of under pressure and new commander of the Thai police Pol Gen Damrongsak Kittipraphat. Just three weeks into his new job Damrongsak is still dealing with the fallout from a recently sacked cop involved with drugs who massacred children in the NE. Then followed a badly bungled sting that resulted in police being robbed of their state property in the south. Now comes news that a Nonthaburi police senior sergeant has stolen a staggering 100+ guns from the Pak Kret station where he was based. He subsequently fled. He pawned the weapons that he stole a few at a time and used the money to fuel an online football gambling habit. Earlier a warrant had been issued by the Nonthaburi court for the arrest of Chaowalit Phumkhajorn on a charge of theft from state property. Picture: Thai Rath Provincial commander of Nong Khai Pol Maj-Gen Pornchai Cholladech plus immigration discovered that Sgt Chaowalit had arrived in Nong Khai (a north eastern province that borders Laos). They found him staying alone at a resort in Ban Nong Dert, Muang Mee sub-district of Muang district. A search of his room found nothing illegal and no guns. There were just a bag and clothes. He was taken to provincial police HQ for questioning. Thai Rath's sources suggested that preliminary questioning of the suspect had revealed that he had been in Nong Khai for four days. He was trying to get a passport. While he was waiting for the passport he rented a motorcycle to get around. He received his passport that day (yesterday). The suspect said that he stole the weapons over time taking one or two each time. He gambled on the internet on football. The media did not follow up as yet on how such a large number of weapons could go missing from a single police station before action was taken, notes ASEAN NOW. A question that Damrongsak may have to face as a mounting list of headaches build up in his first month at the helm of the RTP. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thailand’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Don Pramudwinai Thailand abstained from the UN resolution to condemn Russia’s annexation of eastern regions of Ukraine last week because it wants its voice on the crisis to be heard, according to Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai. Don also dismissed speculation that Thailand’s abstention was designed to please Russian President Vladimir Putin who has reportedly confirmed attendance at the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to be held in Bangkok next month. “It has nothing to do with whether or not President Putin will attend the summit,” Don told Thai PBS World. Thailand was among 35 countries that abstained from the resolution. Laos and Vietnam were two other ASEAN countries that did so. Sanook Thai Caption: It was just "content" The two women at the center of a storm of nakedness on the eastern seaboard earlier this week have rocked up at Sattahip police station. Twitter users were amused and a former mayor up in arms after the ladies appeared on a boat naked with two guys and made suggestive comments about a trip to "doo nom" and "chom hoi". Most netizens took those particular expressions that can have an entirely innocent meaning as references to ogling mammaries and examining the lower regions of a female's anatomy, respectively. Facebook Chaiwat Inanong The ladies met with Sattahip station chief Pol Col Panya Damlek who informed them that they are facing charges related to disseminating obscene material via computer, reported Sanook. That's a top whack sentence of five years and/or a 100,000 baht fine. They admitted the people on the boat were them but said that the men were their boyfriends and not customers. All that about milk and crustacea, special services and 3,000 baht for 2-3 persons for four hours was just content. Investigations continue. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-21 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan instructed state agencies to adopt a proactive approach to promote road safety and reduce accidents. Members of the National Road Accident Prevention and Reduction Policy Board today convened in a meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan to review the outcomes of the enforcement of the amended Land Transport Act, which includes additional punishments for traffic law violations. The amended law, which came into effect on 5 September, aims to keep regulationห up to date with the current behaviors of motorists. In regard to driving under the influence, first-time offenders will face up to a year in prison, plus a fine between 5,000 and 20,000 baht, while repeat offenses within a span of two years will result in up to 2 years of imprisonment, plus a fine of 50,000-100,000 baht, along with a minimum one year driver’s license suspension. Bangkok reports low air quality in 12 areas by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - Airborne dust is impacting air quality in some parts of Bangkok, as the city hall is encouraging people in 12 affected areas to avoid outdoor activities. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - Airborne dust is impacting air quality in some parts of Bangkok, as the city hall is encouraging people in 12 affected areas to avoid outdoor activities. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) today reported higher than standard levels of airborne dust particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers (PM 2.5) at 12 measurement stations within the capital, suggesting an unhealthy amount of air quality. According to the city hall, PM2.5 exceeded the safety threshold of 50 micrograms per cubic meter in 12 locations, including Phetkasem 81 in Nong Khaem district; Bang Sue District Office; Odeon Circle in Samphanthawong district; in front of Seacon Square shopping mall in Prawet district; Bang Phlat District Office; in front of Lat Krabang Hospital in Lat Krabang District; Khlong Sam Wa District Office; at the entrance of Thonburi Market (Sanam Luang 2) in Thawi Watthana district; by the Bank of Ayutthaya head office in Yannawa district; in front of Samyan Mitrtown shopping mall in Pathumwan district; at Phutthamonthon Sai 1 - Borommaratchachonnani intersection in Taling Chan district; and in front of the Office of the National Economics and Social Development Council in Pom Prap Sattru Phai district. The city hall said it has a response plan for this year’s haze disaster. It set a target to provide a 3-day air pollution forecast, which can be displayed on the BMA Traffic app and traffic information signage operated by the city’s Traffic and Transportation Department. The city is to increase the number of air quality measurement stations from 557 locations to 1,000, while conducting exhaust fume tests on cars and trucks more frequently. The Ministry of Public Health is encouraging the general public to check the latest air quality status before leaving home on the Air4Thai mobile app, or visit the Pollution Control Department’s air4thai.pcd.go.th website. The app and the website will show the levels of air pollution in color-coded tiers, with the orange tier representing an unhealthy amount of airborne particles, and the red tier representing very unhealthy air quality. The public is asked to refrain from staying out amidst unhealthy air. They should wear a face mask outside if needed. However, everyone is strongly discouraged to stay outside for a long period of time without appropriate protective gear during the unhealthy air period. One Man and the River: A mission that triggered tidal wave of criticism Tomorrow (Oct 22), singer-cum-actor Phakin “Tono” Khamwilaisak will brave strong criticism – and even stronger currents of the Mekong – in his bid to swim across the border on his “One Man and the River” charitable mission. Tomorrow (Oct 22), singer-cum-actor Phakin “Tono” Khamwilaisak will brave strong criticism – and even stronger currents of the Mekong – in his bid to swim across the border on his “One Man and the River” charitable mission. “My causes mean so much more [than the hurtful flak],” an emotional Tono said earlier this week after his swimming challenge sparked controversy on social media. Over the past month, the 36-year-old heartthrob’s charity swim has raised more than 6 million baht for two hospitals on either side of the Mekong – one in Thailand’s Nakhon Phanom and the other in Laos’s Khammouane. So what’s the fuss all about? But Tono’s good intentions have not been enough to save him from a wave of criticism. Some critics warn that his mission is dangerous in a Mekong whose ferocious currents have been swollen by monsoon rain. The daredevil swim puts not just his own life at risk, but also those of the rescue team on standby in case he gets into trouble, they say.
