  3. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that a middle aged woman called Jeda contacted them to tell them a story of woe. Jeda - who already had a son from a previous relationship - said that she met a man called Rithai who is a contractor dealing in water tanks. Sweet talking Rithai soon convinced her that he was in love and would marry her. With this in mind he handed over ten baht weight in gold as an engagement present and the couple lived together as man and wife ahead of their wedding. During this time Jeda's son got married. Rithai asked if he could wear the gold at the ceremony and expecting no problem with that she agreed. The gold is worth about 300,000 baht at today's prices. After the ceremony Rithai said that he had some business to attend to and asked to continue wearing the gold. He disappeared and could not be contacted. Eventually another phone number was used and he told her over the phone that he already had a wife in Mukdahan, NE Thailand. He urged her not to prosecute him because of his family. Jeda, from Prachinburi, has lost face and is going to the police. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 9. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - Thailand’s Children Hospital has reported a rise in the number of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) patients year by year. The hospital is asking parents of very young children to be cautious and take precautionary measures against respiratory diseases. Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, so-called Children Hospital, has reported an increase in RSV cases among its very young patients, with one out of three patients visiting the hospital having RSV and the number of new cases rising every year. RSV is a respiratory pathogen that causes symptoms similar to cold and flu. RSV infections can go away for adults and older children, but can be especially severe and potentially fatal for children under a year old, as well as the elderly with underlying health conditions. Dr. Chalermthai Aksilp, a pediatric pulmonologist at Children Hospital, said very young children can develop severe complications from the mucus which children may not be able to properly dispose of. He said the same precautionary measures against COVID-19 can be applied to help prevent RSV. This includes mask-wearing and hand hygiene. RSV tests can be performed with nasal swabs, similar to Covid. The incubation period for RSV is around 3-6 days, and the virus can be active in the host’s body for 8 days. Those diagnosed with RSV are recommended to self-isolate, take a leave from school, take medications, and see a doctor when symptoms do not go away. 10. Fines for non-mask wearing to be officially scrapped within weeks after MoPH announcement Picture: Siam Rath Thailand will officially end the practice of fining people for not wearing masks after a MoPH meeting yesterday. 11. Picture: Siam Rath Thailand will officially end the practice of fining people for not wearing masks after a MoPH meeting yesterday. Dr Tharet Kratnairawiwong, chief of the Department of Disease Control said that this related to powers given to provincial authorities to issue mask wearing orders. Thailand's health minister is Anutin Charnvirakul, pictured here. Such laws were still on the books. There was no need for the matter to be decided by cabinet, it could be signed off by the health minister, he said. The laws would be officially scrapped within 2-3 weeks after announcement in the Government Gazette. Matters related to compensation were also decided, reported Siam Rath. ASEAN NOW notes that mask wearing in Thailand is still prevalent especially in Bangkok. However, slowly but surely the number of Thais wearing masks is beginning to decrease even in the Thai capital. This is especially noticable in tourist and nightlife areas where both Thais and foreign nationals are mostly mask-less. Outside Bangkok there is far less masking up. During the pandemic fines existed on three levels of 1,000, 6,000 and 20,000 baht for repeat offenders. ASEAN NOW carried very few stories about people being fined, however. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 13. By Tulsathit Taptim Democracy is easy when everyone is agreeable. How conflicts are dealt with, peacefully and justly, is what truly separates it from authoritarianism or anarchy. Minor conflicts producing the kind of reaction seen over the past few days in Thailand shows that the country has yet to overcome minuscule challenges in its quest for “freedom”. People like Srisuwan Janya and UdomTaepanich are abundant in practically every political system. It’s coping with them that tells whether Thailand is ready for a change toward a freer society where every opinion is respected whether they are in the majority or minority, and where “offensive” thinking is handled properly. If democracy was an exam, Udom would get an A minus. He was asserting his right to voice an opinion. That should have earned him a clean A, but the “minus” dent has to do with some hypocritical backgrounds where he used his stardom as an advantage to mock spiritual beliefs of other people on stage while possessing a controversial spiritual belief himself. Phakin wants to use the much-publicized exercise to raise funds for hospitals in Nakhon Phanom Hospital and a hospital in Thakhek, Khammouane province of Laos. Phakin has been getting both bouquets and brickbats for his planned venture which will see him swim from the Thai side of Mekong River in Nakhon Phanom to Thakhek of Laos and back. The attempt is seen as an emulation of Thailand’s rock star Artiwara Khongmalai, better known as “Toon Bodyslam”, who raised as much as 1.3 billion baht (US$37 million) with his famous run covering more than 2,000 kms in 2017 to buy medical equipment for hospitals. He was jailed in New Zealand and after his release in 2014 left to set up his businesses in Thailand and continue his drug dealing ways. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-20 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
