  5. Sanook Thai Caption: Relatives worse off than before Sanook reported that comment online was rife after a family showed a bill from a temple in Klaeng, Rayong in eastern Thailand that listed charges to the nth degree. It all came to 39,200 baht including 8,000 baht for electricity. Listed were charges related to things used, the crematorium, preaching (that was 1,000 baht) and a refrigerated coffin (2,500 baht). But there was worse. The bill specified the sums that needed to be placed in the envelopes for the monks ranging from 300 to 1,000 baht. Sanook went to see Naphaporn, 35, whose dad had died. She said no one had seen such an itemized bill for a funeral before and said it should be up to mourners what to offer. She would never have had her dad cremated there if she knew about all this in advance. It had added to the family's sense of grief at this sad time. Sanook went to the temple - not named in defamation crazy Thailand where the truth does not matter if it can be proved that a party has lost face. The temple announced over the loudspeaker that anyone defaming them would face full prosecution under the law. Sanook thought better of pressing the issue and left. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 7. Sanook Thai Caption: Didn't you think to offer help? Sanook reported on a collision between what they said was a fancy car and two people on a motorcycle that occurred at a crossroads in Nikhom Patana, Rayong, in eastern Thailand last Saturday morning. Dash cam footage and CCTV that can be viewed HERE showed the motorcycle going straight before the car suddenly swerved in front to make a U-turn. The couple were thrown to the ground. The car just drove off and turned left offering no assistance at all. Sanook called this inconsiderate. The couple - Sitthipong, 23, and Suwipha, 22 - said they were going ahead on a green light on their way to a market when they were hit. They reported the matter to the Nikhom Patana police who told them to go and get the licence plate themselves before they would investigate. The couple have so far failed to obtain clear enough footage for that either at the scene or on the subsequent route that the vehicle took. They believe it to be a blue Isuzu MU-7. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 9. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - Environmental consciousness and sustainability have increasingly become a common interest of the general public. The Thai government and Thailand Productivity Institute are working on the Green Productivity strategy that aims to yield positive changes to the economy and society. Thailand Productivity Institute and the Asian Productivity Organization held an annual meeting, with green productivity and sustainability among the main consideration points for the organization’s future action plans. The meeting was participated by delegates from 19 member countries of the Asian Productivity Organization, as well as Deputy Permanent Secretary of Industry Panuwat Triyangkulsri. The meeting was held to discuss future campaigns to enhance productivity, along with recommendations and guidelines on ways to promote Green Productivity and Circular Economy, with a goal to achieve post-pandemic sustainability. Mr. Panuwat said the meeting today marked an important step towards the promotion of regional productivity, particularly since all countries are now recovering from setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The deputy permanent secretary of industry said the Thai government and the Ministry of Industry are committed to supporting agencies and private firms regardless of the size to become competitive in the present business landscape. Mr. Surachet Polwanich, Acting Executive Director at Thailand Productivity Institute, said this meeting will help push forward the involvement and opportunities for Green Productivity among companies in Asia-Pacific, by promoting the Green Productivity concept, technical aspects, and trends that are linked to the Sustainable Development Goals. He said this meeting also served as a platform for experts from Thailand and abroad to discuss ways to improve strengths and productivity through the circular economy principle, which shall fortify economic sustainability after the pandemic. 10. Aerothai reports shift in takeoff and landing direction at airports due to seasonal winds by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The arrival of colder air and changes in wind directions have prompted adjustments to the takeoff and landing directions at Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports. The winter runway directions will be in effect from this month to February, 2023. 11. by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The arrival of colder air and changes in wind directions have prompted adjustments to the takeoff and landing directions at Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports. The winter runway directions will be in effect from this month to February, 2023. Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd. (Aerothai) indicated the general takeoff and landing direction at Don Mueang airport is being reversed. Planes will now take off and land on runways 03 instead of the usual runways 21. The shift is in correspondence to winds now blowing from the northeastern direction at significant velocities of 20-30 kilometers per hour. Aerothai said this is normal for the months of the cold season. People in Bangkok will therefore be able to spot planes descending above the downtown area to land at Don Mueang. This will be the case until February. The change means planes will approach Don Mueang airport from the south and fly over Bangkok’s downtown area. Aerothai would periodically switch back to having planes approach from the north when the speed of northeasterly winds drop to no more than 18 kilometers per hour. The civilian air traffic control authority explained that planes approaching from the airport’s north are able to land safely if winds do not exceed this magnitude. A similar change in the takeoff and landing direction for planes is being implemented at Suvarnabhumi airport. Planes will now approach from the south and take off in the northern direction. A Twitter user has posted images shot from a passenger plane making its approach to the airport from the south. The new landing direction means passengers are able to enjoy a bird’s eye view of downtown Bangkok before landing. In contrast, passengers are generally greeted by overhead views of Pathum Thani when the usual landing direction is in use. 13. Daily News Thai Caption: They slept in jail Bowon Mongkhon police in Bangkok took two women to Taling Chan court yesterday following revelations about a "mad cult" as reported by ASEAN NOW. Haru, 39, and Tripetchratana, 20, are charged with causing grievous bodily harm along with a long list of offences related to violent abuse and compelling people to commit violent acts.. The victims were named as Phailin, 46, Ploy, 34, and Khai Muk, 48, along with Phailin's children a girl and boy aged 10 and 6 respectively. Daily News reported that Phailin had met "Haru" who used various names that sounded Korean. She had been persuaded to move in with her at Suphalai City Resort condo, Building A, in the Rama 8, Bang Phlat area of Bangkok. Haru had encouraged her to go into a cosmetics business and promised to find a new school for her children. She was persuaded that 4 million baht costs resulted from this. This later ballooned to 140 million as two other women got hooked into the weird arrangement. Haru produced the cosmetics and the other ladies were in charge of online sales and outside events. Offences that allegedly occurred within the last week related to the use of boiling water and assault were detailed in court. The ladies had not met sales targets to pay off their apparent debt. No relatives turned up at the court on behalf of Haru to post bail. Bail was denied for her sidekick in the alleged crime Tripetchratana. Both were remanded in custody. Haru is a known and convicted fraudster, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 15. Daily News Thai Caption: Bang Saray disgraced! Daily News reported that quiet Bang Saray beach in Sattahip, just down the road from raunchy Pattaya where most anything goes, was in uproar. Pictures of bare chested and fully naked women had appeared on a Twitter post from a company offering pleasure boat trips for fishing. The post was full of Thai innuendo related to "shellfish, squid and milk". Yes, you could get quite a catch for 3,000 baht a person over a four hour trip. Limited to 2-3 persons, that is. The media said that "in full view of tourists" a woman had bared her breasts and two were fully naked on a white boat with a red siren. Ex mayor Chaiwat Inanong or "Tam" went on his Facebook page to condemn the activity saying: "I don't know who you are but you're not doing this in my hometown". He or a representative planned to go to the police today to stop all this public nakedness on the eastern seaboard of Thailand. More about these shenanigans as we hear of it at ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 17. By Online Reporter Despite what feels like an increased amount of rainfall in recent weeks, the region’s reservoirs are some way off full capacity. In many other areas of Thailand, concerns have been raised about the dangerously high levels of water in many major reservoirs. However, officials in Prachuap Khiri Khan have confirmed the eight reservoirs that help supply the region with water are currently at around 66 percent capacity, while the nearby Pranburi reservoir is at around 65 percent capacity. The news comes after Mr. Sathien Charoenruen, governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, presided over a meeting of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Division and the Prachuap Khiri Khan Province Command Center for Flood, Storm, and Landslide Prevention and Solution Center on Tuesday. By Erich Parpart The leader of the main opposition Pheu Thai Party has come out to say that the move to file a petition to dissolve the Bhumjai Thai Party (BJT) for its marijuana policy was only a proposal that was discussed but not a decision made by the parties in the opposition block. “The proposal derived from the previous censure debate where opposition debaters were assigned to see whether the issues that were brought up against the ministers who were being grilled in parliament should be followed up by legal means or not,” Opposition Leader Chonlanan Srikaew told Thai Enquirer. “One of the initial proposals was to pursue a legal case against the Bhumjai Thai Party for its marijuana policy and this issue is only being considered right now,” he said.
