INN reported from Songkhla in the far south of Thailand where they said that tourism was picking up again after the pandemic. Particularly among Malaysian tourists who were coming to visit the province on weekends. Cashing in on the demand for tours around the province is local businessman Jaran Chaiphakdee, 42, who has adapted two old song thaews (vehicles with two rows of seats in the back) to show tourists around. There is very little like them on the roads today, claimed the media. They will pick up passengers at Laem Samila beach and for 1,000 baht for 15 passengers will provide tours. The Malaysians said it was a great way to get around with "natural air con" for a reasonable price. The media thought it was a great idea too. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-06 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Savagely cruel Reaction from Thai animal lovers was swift after a vet posted about a stray dog that had been shot in the head by a harpoon dart used to catch fish. The dart with a spur had pierced the stray's head and gone right through. It was initially in a coma and barely breathing but an update later after surgery showed the dog with its eyes open and the prognosis was that it would be back on the streets in a few days, reported Daily News. Netizens reacted to the savage cruelty of someone who might do this. Picture: Daily News They praised the vets at "Bung Ta Lua" veterinary hospital (in Nakhon Ratchasima) for their efforts. Some hoped that bad karma would be visited upon whoever did this. A 45 second video posted later on the same page showed the dog apparently none the worse for wear. No one mentioned the menace of street dogs. The shooter could face 2 years in jail and a 40,000 baht fine for such an attack. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-06 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Female "brand name" robber Muang Surat Thani police in the south of Thailand announced the arrest of a 16 year old female vocational diploma student who robbed a gold shop in their district. "A" - not named because of her age - was interviewed in the company of social services after her arrest at a house in the downtown area yesterday. She admitted everything. On Tuesday just after midday she went into the gold store on Na Muang road saying she wanted to buy a gold bracelet. Picture: Daily News She was wearing a pink designer cap, brand name clothes and carrying a brand name chest bag. Through sleight of hand she managed to steal a 4 baht weight item. She then returned at 2.15 pm and stole another one. Police studied her getaway route from CCTV that showed her on a Honda Scoopy-i. Picture: Daily News She sold the first bracelet at a shop nearby then used some of the money to buy a bracelet and ring. She got 120,000 baht for the loot. It emerged that the girl's parents had paid off a retailer after she stole an iPad and clothes earlier. Thus she avoided a criminal record. Evidence also showed an 84,000 baht payment from her to an online gambling site, reported Daily News. She was charged with theft using sleight of hand and detained. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-06 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. "Khru Daeng" went on Facebook with a short clip of a yellow Lamborghini trying to traverse some choppy floodwaters. A rear section complete with the registration plate comes loose and almost completely detached. The video was viewed more than 1.6 million times with predictable comments poking fun at the expensive supercar's abilities in the flood and the potential reaction of insurance companies. By Thanaphum Charoensombatpanich The rising labour cost, the ageing population, the political uncertainties, along with growing competition for foreign direct investments has left Thailand licking it wounds in the race for attracting investors to invest in Thailand. Thailand, one of the few countries that had been the king of attracting FDI into the country over the past few decades, has started to lose its crown of being the top FDI recipient to the likes of the newcomer – Vietnam. “Thailand’s FDI applications have fallen this year, bucking the regional trend as other ASEAN countries saw foreign interest returning with the economic reopening. FDI application plunged to US$3.8 billion in the first half of 2022, less than half of the $8.8 billion recorded in the first half of 2021,” Lee Ju Ye, analyst at Maybank in Singapore said. Soranut Masayavanich holds up a bong in his cannabis shop in Bangkok, Thailand. The drug was decriminalised in the country earlier this year. (Foreign Correspondent: Craig Hansen ACS) By Mazoe Ford, Deborah Richards and Supattra Vimonsuknopparat in Thailand It's a hot Sunday afternoon on tropical Koh Samui and tourists at a luxury beach club are relaxing on white sofas, cooling off in the pool and sipping expensive champagne. Some are also smoking cannabis joints, right out in the open. It's a startling sight in Thailand where, until a few months ago, people caught with the drug were often jailed. Carlos Oliver (left), a British national on holiday in Thailand, says the country is like "the new Amsterdam" thanks to the sudden decriminalisation of cannabis. (Foreign Correspondent: Craig Hansen ACS) But cannabis, or "ganja" as it's known here, is no longer classed as an illegal drug in Thailand. In June, the south-east Asian nation took the plant off the banned narcotics list so people could grow, sell and use it for medicinal purposes. But a law regulating its recreational use has not yet passed the parliament, leaving a legal grey area that many, from tourists to "ganja-preneurs", are now rushing to take advantage of. "There's a huge demand for cannabis," says the beach club's owner, Carl Lamb, a British expat who has lived on Koh Samui for 25 years and owns a number of resorts.
