  3. Picture: Thai Rath A vicious murderer being portrayed in the Thai media as cool, calm and collected was denied bail yesterday. Charnwit or "Don" has already admitted to murdering Orawan or "Phim" and charges of dismembering and concealing a corpse. He cut her into seven pieces in the province of Samut Prakan then took the bits into the city and buried them under the expressway in the Lad Prao area. He then dumped his tools and other evidence in a klong. Rachanee, 57, the deceased's mother said that she had offered forgiveness but wanted the full weight of the law on the head of her daughter's murderer. "I want to ask him why he did that to my daughter?" she told Thai Rath. She outlined how her daughter had had an on again, off again relationship with the suspect. She believed her daughter had kept her distance from him following her advice. They had met on a ruse of sorting things out. According to police Don spent a stress free night in the cells before being taken to the Samut Prakan court. Bail was opposed by the police due to the brazen nature of the crime. The police said it was an open and shut case in which the suspect has admitted everything and the evidence and witness statements match perfectly. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 7. Picture: Thai Rath The deputy spokesman for the metropolitan police has assured the public that an allegedly drunk cop who caused a serious traffic accident in northern Bangkok will be dealt with just like any ordinary member of the public. Thai Rath mentioned this several times almost as if they were incredulous with the very idea. Daily News had a picture of the spokesman - Pol Maj-Gen Nithithorn Jintakanon - with a caption "No Exceptions". The case relates to Friday when Pol Sub-Lt Jaran Nakprasitsak was driving his Toyota Fortuner in the Don Muang area where he is stationed. He was off duty. Picture: Thai Rath He was involved in a collision with several vehicles including a taxi that untimately led to a motorcyclist called Noppadol Reuang-arun, 40, being crushed under the Fortuner's wheels along with his bike. This played out about 11.30 pm about 50 meters from the Sirisuk Intersection on Chang Akat Uthit Road. Nithithorn said that the suspect will be dealt with just like a member of the public under traffic laws recently tightened up. The public can rest assured that even though the suspect involved is a serving RTP officer he will be dealt with under the full force of the law, he told the media. Police are waiting on injury reports and gathering witness statements before proceeding in the case. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-10-04 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Granddaughter Eva, John Horsley, daughter Janet Cowen and grandson Josh (Image: Janet Cowen) He has a "50/50" chance of surviving as medical bills mount up By Tom Hitchenor A Northamptonshire family has issued a desperate plea for a grandfather seriously ill in Thailand. Janet Cowen, 37, from Desborough said her father has a "50/50" chance of surviving as medical bills for his treatment mount up. John Horsley, 77, an ex-professional footballer for Coventry City and Shrewsbury Town, was admitted to hospital on Sunday, September 25. He was "sorting out his affairs" in Thailand with a view to moving back in with his daughter. However, he fell ill and his health deteriorated to the point where he wouldn't have been able to make a flight back. Mum-of-two Janet said: "He suffers from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and emphysema. "He's not been right and has been struggling with his breathing. He had not been sleeping or eating for a few days and was feeling really unwell. "In the end, they took him in by ambulance to hospital and was moved into intensive care. We managed to do a call this morning (September 30) and see him. 11. Yuan-class submarine. Photo via Twitter and published by Eurasiantimes.com By Thai Newsroom Reporters IT WILL BE VERY UNLIKELY for the Thai navy to buy a German-made engine to install aboard a Chinese-built submarine in Thailand, said navy chief Adm. Cherngchai Chomcherngpat yesterday (Oct. 3). The newly-appointed navy chief categorically dismissed unconfirmed news reports that the German-made MTU396 engine might probably be imported and installed in Thailand aboard the Yuan-class S26T submarine which China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co is scheduled to deliver to the Thai navy in 2024. The planned procurement of Thailand’s first submarine in six decades has apparently hit a snag since Germany refused to sell the MTU396 submarine engine to the Chinese shipbuilding firm under the European Union’s embargo measures banning exports of European weapon systems, combat equipment and accessories to the Asian superpower country. 20. Various activities and initiatives on this small island in Trat province are seeing admirable efforts towards more sustainable and inclusive tourism, in line with the new direction of Thai tourism nationwide. TAT Newsroom The small and picturesque island of Ko Mak off the coast of Trat province – where the natural resources are still intact and the local way of life is still very much the norm – has for a number of years now being make steady and admirable progress in its goal to become the first ‘Low-carbon Destination’ in Thailand. With Ko Mak gradually being discovered by more and more tourists, the public and private sectors together with the island’s local population are dedicated to promoting sustainable and environment-friendly tourism there. An impressive number of initiatives and activities have been implemented in the past decade to create a tourism model that has the least impact on the natural landscape and the community, and which embraces widespread distribution of income through the community. Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor, said “Ko Mak’s path towards becoming the first ‘Low-carbon Destination’ is very much in line with Thailand’s direction towards more responsible and more sustainable tourism through the ‘Visit Thailand Year 2022-2023: Amazing New Chapters’ campaign, and the government’s Bio-Circular-Green or BCG Economy Model. It is wonderful to see such a genuine effort aimed at preserving the natural and cultural attractions that make the island so charming.” Helping to spread awareness of the good work being done on Ko Mak, TAT launched the “Laughing Island Conqueror vs Low-carbon Footprint Traveller” initiative, from May to July, this year. The project encouraged tourists to Trat province to partake in responsible tourism through activities that reduced their carbon footprint. Being mindful of their carbon footprint, tourists could take a unique route covering the low-carbon destination of Ko Mak, Ko Kradat (Safari Island) and Ko ‘Kai-Hua-Ro’ (Laughing Island), and along the way use a CF Calculator application to record their travel pattern, distance, tourism activities, and daily food consumption. By doing so, participating tourists were able to play a part in Ko Mak’s goal of becoming the first ‘Low-carbon Destination’ in Thailand, and help reduce waste that could contribute to the greenhouse effect, PM2.5 dust, and climate change. The Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) – which coordinates, promotes, and supports various parties in communities and localities to develop sustainable tourism in the framework of low-carbon tourism – has helped with the low-carbon mission on Ko Mak in different ways, such as encouraging efficient use of energy and water, waste management, and preserving the community way of life. The Ko Mak Low-carbon Destination Declaration was signed on 25 September, 2012, and in 2015 three main campaigns were introduced: 1) Eat it Fresh, which campaigned for restaurants, hotels, and resorts on the island to buy seafood from the local fishermen and for the growing of vegetables and fruits free of pesticides; 2) Help Ko Mak, which encouraged tourists to use ‘green’ behaviour, such as re-using towels and turning off electrical appliances while not in use, and which sought to plant 10,000 trees on the island, and 3) A Good Host to encourage locals to reduce carbon producing activities, such as sorting waste and using renewable energy solar cells. From 2020 onwards, various activities promoting low-carbon tourism have included tourists picking vegetables from a solar vegetable garden, green hotels following an environment-friendly criteria, Trash Hero volunteer garbage collection, and use of the ‘Ko Mak Low Carbon Calculator’ online tool (www.kohmaklowcarbon.com).
