Daily News Thai Caption: (Woman) who ordered theft of seats arrested Police in Bangkok have made a quick arrest after several seats and other items went missing from the Rajamangala stadium following the Manchester United vs Liverpool friendly match last Tuesday. A woman called Kenika Rattanainthachai, 34, had attended the match and took a liking to the merchandise. So she returned with a guy and stole 4 fancy red seats, a poster of Jackson Wang, 13 cheaper seats and 100 seat covers, reported Daily News. It was all caught on CCTV and led to her arrest at business premises in Thung Khru on Monday and a charge of theft using a conveyance. In an attempt at mitigation the woman said she was being treated for mental illness and she was attracted to things she liked. Picture: Daily News Winit Lertrattanachai, an organiser who alerted Hua Mark police, thought it ran deeper than that and that someone had paid her to get the seats. They are worth 100,000 baht each to collectors. A picture showed that at least three of the red seats had been slashed with a knife damaging the cushions. Continuing to showcase Thailand 5F, 4M soft-power foundations for the international market, and highlighting more responsible tourism routes for the domestic market. TAT Newsroom The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced the marketing plan for 2023 that will continue this year’s goal to revitalise and transform Thai tourism, while placing greater emphasis on the recovery of the tourism sector towards stronger and sustainable, more responsible, more digital and more inclusive tourism growth. Staged in a hybrid meeting format, the annual TAT Action Plan for 2023 conference was presided over by H.E. Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports. Also present at the event were Dr. Thosaporn Sirisumphand, TAT’s Chairman of the Board, and officials and figures from the Thai public and private tourism sectors, as well as members of the media. Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, TAT Governor, said, “TAT sees 2023 as a year of a new beginning for Thai tourism. Hence, we have outlined our marketing strategy for next year adhering to the TAT’s Corporate Plan 2023-2027, which aims to heighten the TAT’s position as the strategic leader in driving Thailand towards experience-based and sustainable tourism. “TAT is committed to help revitalise and transform Thai tourism under our three strategic objectives, which are: to ‘drive demand’ for meaningful travel, to ‘shape supply’ by developing a new tourism ecosystem, and to ‘thrive for excellence’ by making the TAT a data-driven organisation. We believe this will heighten our goal for Thailand to achieve high value and sustainable tourism growth,” Mr. Yuthasak added. TAT will continue to use the “Visit Thailand Year 2022-2023: Amazing New Chapters” as the communication strategies for the international market. Thailand will continue to be promoted as a world-class destination that offers something for everyone under the ‘From A-Z: Amazing Thailand Has It All’ concept. This will be showcased alongside the kingdom’s 5F, 4M soft-power foundations; namely, Food, Film, Fashion, Festival, Fight, Music, Museum, Master, and Meta. Particularly for long-haul international market, TAT recognises 2023 as the ‘time is the new currency’ era. Therefore, emphasis will be placed on promoting Thailand as a year-round destination for health and wellness aficionados, families with kids, active seniors, and remote workers / teleworkers through co-promotions with leading brands. Strategic marketing activities will be launched in new source markets, including Saudi Arabia and the USA’s large secondary cities through partnerships with the airlines. For the short-haul international market, TAT has outlined ‘The Great Resumption’ under the ‘2Qs, 5News’ strategy. The ‘2Qs’ are ‘Quick Win’ to drive back the demands of tourists and ‘Quality’ to achieve more numbers of revisits and higher trip expenditure. The ‘5News’ include ‘New Segments’ with growth potential, ‘New Areas’ for source tourist markets, ‘New Partners’ in existing markets, ‘New Infrastructure’ relating to travel and tourism, and ‘New Way’ of travel experiences that will focus on responsible tourism. TAT will also promote all points of entry into Thailand, via land, water, and air with an aim to reinstate more than 80% of the regional air capacity in 2019. In addition, more collaborative partnerships will be formed between TAT and the airlines to help boost the international tourism business by increasing the seating capacity to Thailand. Initially, this will focus on key source markets with no travel restrictions to drive the travel demand of high-disposable income groups (Millennials, Gen-X, and Silver-Age People), hyper-personalisation groups (health and wellness, sports tourism, and responsible tourism), and new segments (digital nomads and remote workers / teleworkers). For the domestic market, TAT will focus on increasing the travel frequency of domestic tourists by promoting Thailand as a year-round destination under the ‘REAL’ strategy: Responsible Tourism, Extra-ordinary Experience, Avantgarde Marketing and Less for more Economy. Highlights of each of the five regions of Thailand will be promoted, including nostalgic experiences in the North for Multi-Gen Families, ‘Trend C2’ innovative routes in the Central Region for Gen-Y and Gen-Z, culinary and luxury tourism offers in the Each for high-income Gen-Y and Millennial Families, Dharma – Nature – Culture routes in the Northeast for Gen-Y and employed people, and inclusive responsible tourism in the South. Moreover, TAT will promote secondary cities up and down Thailand. TAT has formulated the marketing plan for 2023 adhering to the Thai government’s Bio-Circular-Green or BCG Economy Model, which is conforming to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The BCG model is being used to revive the tourism industry with the aim of safe, inclusive, and sustainable travel. Moreover, to ‘thrive for excellence’ by making TAT a data-driven organisation, TAT will use the Thailand Tourism Virtual Mart (TTVM) via https://virtualmart.tourismthailand.org as the key online B2B platform for Thai tourism business and international tourism operators. “For 2023, TAT expects Thailand to generate a total tourism revenue of 1.73 trillion Baht with 970 billion Baht from the international market and 760 billion Baht from the domestic market (for base case scenario) and 2.38 trillion Baht with 1.50 trillion Baht from the international market and 880 billion Baht from the domestic market (for best case scenario). This represents about 80% of Thailand’s tourism performance in 2019,” Mr. Yuthasak concluded. Daily News Thai Caption: Wife dead after attack Police in the Ban Nasan district of Surat Thani were called to a house in a rubber plantation where a 51 year old woman called Gift lay dead. Dressed in t-shirt and shorts and lying on the bed the former school teacher was badly battered about the head and eye socket. The body was sent for autopsy. The man responsible was her husband Boy, 52, who surrendered to police, reported Daily News. He said that on Sunday evening he had been drinking with his pals and had gone home at 11 pm and went to sleep with his wife. When he woke up she was still and he phoned his relatives. He said he didn't mean it. He explained that he and his wife engaged in sadistic sex games involving violence and that this was the cause of her death, all a tragic mistake. He was charged with assault causing death. The younger sister of the victim said that Boy had turned violent after being released from prison five years ago. It emerged that Boy was a former police lance corporal in Krabi before he was drummed out of the RTP. He shot a fellow officer dead in an argument over a woman in 2011 and received a 6 year four month sentence that he completed in 2017. Now it appears - under the guise of a sex game gone wrong - he has killed yet again, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Daily News Thai Caption: Tricked into non-existent work A Thai woman who is among 50 compatriots tricked by a devious agency into applying for work in South Korea said she couldn't earn enough in Thailand. She admitted that the work she intended to do in the Asian giant that is South Korea was illegal. But she saw no way out of her predicament when she saw the Facebook add for riches in what Thais call the Land of White Ginseng, reported Daily News. "I know I was wrong," said Gift at Central Investigation Bureau HQ yesterday. "But I'm a million baht in debt and there's just me and my mum left. I would never get enough money by working in Thailand". So Gift and many others contacted a female Thai agent with a South Korean husband who promised they would fix up everything and she could pay them back later. All that needed to be paid upfront was a flight insurance fee deposit of 7,500 and 15,000 in other charges to get the ball rolling. Picture: Daily News However she realised when she applied for a K-ETA or electronic entry into Korea that she had been conned. Permission denied. She returned to contact the Facebook people and found she was now blocked and there was no way to get back her initial investment. Another lady went with the founder of "Sai Mai Tong Rort" Ekkaphop Leuangprasert yesterday. He said that lots of people in his Sai Mai area - up to 50 - had been conned by the agency into getting jobs in Europe and Korea. He was planning on contacting the Labour Department as well as the police to get action against the fraudsters. ASEAN NOW notes that the precise nature of the illegal work proposed to the Thai ladies was not specified. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. What the weakening baht means for Thailand’s economy By Thai PBS World’s Business Desk The plunging value of the baht appears ominous and raises worrying questions about its impact on the Thai economy. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1266324-what-the-weakening-baht-means-for-thailand’s-economy/ -
By Thai PBS World’s Business Desk The plunging value of the baht appears ominous and raises worrying questions about its impact on the Thai economy. On Friday (July 15), the baht fell to 36.73 to the US dollar, its lowest in 15 years and eight months, according to Kasikorn Research Center. Between July 11-15, foreign investors sold Thai shares worth 1.1 billion baht. Net buys have totalled 122 billion baht since early this year. They also sold Thai bonds resulting in net capital outflows of 2.1 billion baht from the Thai bond market since early this year. Combined with the fast-rising inflation in Thailand and in many countries, a large number of consumers may feel the squeeze. The weakening value of the baht has inflicted losses on some people while some have gained, said a senior director at the Bank of Thailand (BOT). The manufacturing sector is complaining about rising production costs, as raw material and energy prices soar. “We don’t hear complaints from other groups,” Daranee Saeju, senior director at BOT’s financial markets department, said without mentioning export groups. Tourist police pull out all the stops to reunite Qatari tourist with a Casio he left in a taxi Picture: Siam Rath Police colonel Piyarach told how he and his men instructed their patrols to swing into action and return a Casio watch in a bag that a Qatari tourist had left in a taxi. Picture: Siam Rath Police colonel Piyarach told how he and his men instructed their patrols to swing into action and return a Casio watch in a bag that a Qatari tourist had left in a taxi. The incident threatened to ruin the tourist's holiday but the police came up trumps in their detective work and the visitor to the kingdom was left beaming from ear to ear thrilled with the police, the Thai people and Thai taxi drivers. Pol Col Piyarach revealed to Siam Rath that he got a call about 2.30 pm on Sunday about the plight of Mohammad Hardy. The Qatari national had been travelling in a taxi from Central World to Lang Suan in the Lumpini police jurisdiction. Then one of a tourist's worst nightmares began - forgetting a valuable, cherished item in a taxi in a foreign land. Where to turn? Subordinate officer Pol Capt Chanok Chaiprasertsakul took up the investigative challenge from this point and hit on the idea of utilizing CCTV to solve the mystery of the missing watch in a bag. Chanok managed to catch the taxi in question on footage from a hotel near the Qatari's address. It was working and clear as day and armed with the number of the cab - 4799 - he then made representations to the Department of Land Transport that registers all drivers and their cabs. Thank goodness they did. Soon the investigation took a final twist as the driver was located. He was called chauffeur Wijit Naphaeng by the media. A meeting was arranged at the Tourist Police office for the official handover of the Casio in a bag. When this was done Mohammad Hardy was effusive in his praise for everything Thai. "The Thai police are so kind, " he observed, "and Thais are lovely, their smiles are great, I love Thailand and the Thai taxi drivers", he added. This followed more good news from the weekend when a group of Saudi ladies were reunited with a bag they left in a taxi they took from Suvarnabhumi Airport. It appears that the Tourist Police are doing everything to play their part in assuring that forgetfulness doesn't spoil anyone's holiday - especially now that tourists are flooding back into Thailand. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. By Pitchayapa Phiwpong Ananda Development Plc (ANAN), one of Thailand’s leading developer or mid-high end condominium developers, has come out to say that its revenues and sales figures were starting to see some recovery although it remains cautious on the outlook as the world heads into recession. Chanond Ruangkritya, Chief Executive Officer at the ANAN, revealed that ANAN, during the second quarter of 2022, has achieved sales of as much as 3.9 billion baht, growing almost 80% from the first quarter, which is higher than the target set for both condominium projects and horizontal projects with both online and offline marketing strategies to support the needs of buyers thoroughly, both domestic and abroad. “Things are improving but there remains a lot of things to be done,” Chanond told Thai Enquirer. Ananda, which is the developer of projects such as Ideo, Ashton and the lower end market such as Elio and Unio, said that it was hoping that the rest of the year would be stronger although a possible rate hike in the months ahead could slow things down slightly. By Erich Parpart Today is the start of the fourth and final censure motion against the government of 2014 coup leader and incumbent Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, and the hopes that this no-confidence debate would bring down the government is nothing but hopes and dreams of those opposed to this government. The government lead by the Palang Pracharath party continues to enjoy a comfortable majority in the parliament and whispers of possible horse trading that continues to circulate in the corridors of the newly built parliament on the banks of Chaophaya river would help ensure that the government of Prayut will sail through this no-confidence debate. Even the opposition has basically given up its hopes of possibly toppling the government and that is the reason why it did not target a few key ministers but instead took on to censure as many as 11 ministers in the cabinet of 35 ministers. Mahidol University Research: Vaccinations Have Saved Almost Half A Million Lives By Editor A research team from Mahidol University has estimated that the government’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign over the past two years prevented nearly 490,000 deaths. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1266310-mahidol-university-research-vaccinations-have-saved-almost-half-a-million-lives/ -
By Editor A research team from Mahidol University has estimated that the government’s Covid-19 vaccination campaign over the past two years prevented nearly 490,000 deaths. The team based their work on a mathematic modelling carried out by the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis in 185 countries from when the first vaccinations were administered in 2021 until July 3, 2022. Charin Modchange, the research team leader from Mahidol University’s Faculty of Science, said that the analysis suggested that 490,000 additional lives would have been lost if no vaccines had been distributed. “Our team also ran the [MRC’s] mathematical model and the outcome was rather significantly interesting. We found that the death rate in Thailand is below 0.1%, which is very close to that of seasonal flu,” he said. Earlier, the Department of Disease Control chief, Dr Opas Karnkawinpong, had said that Omicron’s BA.4/BA.5 sub variant produces less severe symptoms than the previous Delta variant, adding that the high number of booster shots given to people has also been an important factor in reducing the number of deaths as well as the severity of symptoms. Dr Opas said the ministry will keep a close watch on daily infections after the long weekend, insisting that universal prevention and vaccination measures are important to limit transmission. “We still recommend that the elderly, people living with chronic diseases and pregnant woman should receive booster shots as fast as possible,” he said. “We have also found that the death toll in these groups is higher among those who receive booster vaccinations late, so we are recommending that anyone who falls under the high-risk category has a booster every three months.” Source: https://royalcoastreview.com/2022/07/mahidol-university-research-vaccinations-have-saved-almost-half-a-million-lives/ -- © Copyright Royal Coast Review 2022-07-19 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Recently discovered under the ground, several ancient sculptures are now adding to the attractions of the already splendid Grand Palace. They have drawn public attention not just for their looks but also for their charming and interesting historical background. Upon hearing about the new decorations around the Grand Palace last week, tourists flocked to see the centuries-old stone sculptures.
