  4. PHOTO: FILE PHOTO By Goongnang Suksawat Koh Samui – Tourists were disappointed after waiting up to five hours for ferries from Samui Island. Saturday (July 16th) at 4:00 P.M. Thai and foreign tourists were heading back from Samui Island after the long holidays have almost ended. At the Sea Tran Ferry Pier, cars were in long queues many kilometers long where tourists were waiting to leave the island. The problem was because the ferry company had decreased the ferry rounds down to six, according to tourists at the scene. Normally, the ferry leaves every hour. Mr. Pitasit Gargharn told the associated Thai media, “I am from Bangkok. I like to visit Samui Island but I have been waiting for five hours. This makes me bored and disappointed when visiting Samui Island.” Full story: https://thephuketexpress.com/2022/07/17/tourists-wait-up-to-five-hours-for-ferries-from-samui-island/ -- © Copyright The Phuket Express 2022-07-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 6. by Natthaphon Sangpolsit HAT YAI (NNT) - The Hat Yai and Padang Besar train stations in Songkhla have been revitalized by the resumption of cross-border train services to Malaysia that had been suspended for more than two years due to the pandemic. Travelers at the stations expressed excitement over the resumption of the cross-border train trips, with many Thais and Malaysians buying tickets for the services. Two daily trips take place from Hat Yai station to Padang Besar station on the border for a total of four trips when the return journey is counted. A seat costs 50 baht and those entering Malaysia switch to the KTM high-speed train at Padang Besar station before traveling to Kuala Lumpur on the KTM. Immigration is processed at Padang Besar station, both for those arriving in and departing from Thailand. Tourism businesses said they welcomed the resumption of the Thailand-Malaysia train service and expect the development to provide a boost for tourism in cities near the border, such as Sadao and Hat Yai. The trains are also believed to benefit overall tourism in the Southern region, as businesses see traveling by train as economical while helping travelers avoid road congestion. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul said Thailand is currently in the rainy season, providing an ideal environment for mosquitoes and increasing the risk of dengue fever cases nationwide. She cited data from the Department of Disease Control (DDC), which reported 5,196 dengue fever cases from January 1 to June 30, with six fatalities. The government is urging the public to be vigilant and remove potential mosquito breeding grounds in their communities. People are also encouraged to closely monitor their personal and family health as the pandemic is still ongoing as well. Anyone with a high fever that does not go away after taking medication, along with headaches, stiffness and red rashes on their body, should stop taking aspirin-related drugs and ibuprofen and seek medical attention immediately. 10. by Natthaphon Sangpolsit BANGKOK (NNT) - People returning home from the long holiday are advised to take precautions to ensure they did not contract COVID-19 during their trips. Dr Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director-general of the Department of Health, urged those visiting other provinces during the holiday to monitor their conditions after returning home. He also advised people to take rapid-antigen tests if they develop symptoms such as a cough, sore throat, muscle pain, headache and fever. Anyone who has spent more than four hours in crowded areas or on public transportation should also take an antigen test. According to the director-general, free antigen test kits (ATKs) will be distributed via the Paotang app for pickup at local pharmacies, or people can use their ID cards to receive the free kits. Those who test positive but exhibit mild symptoms are advised to get medicine as outpatients from hospitals where they are registered for free treatment. Additionally, they should self-isolate for five days and closely monitor themselves for another five days. They are still allowed to leave the house during the self-monitoring period but must follow strict prevention protocols such as wearing masks and practicing social distancing. The director-general also urged employers to take precautions such as providing hand sanitizers at entrances, in front of lifts and inside restrooms. Employees should meanwhile evaluate themselves using the "Thai Save Thai" app and notify their employers if they are in a high-risk group, as well as adhere to Universal Prevention measures. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-07-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 11. Tourist levy hits further turbulence with fears it could harm airline’s effort to boost flight numbers by James Morris and Son Nguyen Minister of Tourism and Sports Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn announce the Thailand Tourism Fee (TTF) earlier in the year at ฿300 per tourist entering Thailand which offers automatic insurance cover. The proposal, which at one point was designed to exclude expats and people living in Thailand with work permits, was removed from the agenda of the cabinet in June due to problems with a plan to collect the fee with reports of resistance from international airlines and who were tasked with collecting the charge and providing final passenger manifests to Bangkok after takeoff. The latest news is that all foreigners will now be charged the proposed fee on entry but that it has again been postponed to find a suitable way of collecting the levy for sea and land passengers. The latest news is that all foreigners will now be charged the proposed fee on entry but that it has again been postponed to find a suitable way of collecting the levy for sea and land passengers. by James Morris and Son Nguyen The fee will provide automatic insurance cover with 11.3% of the money from it going to pay for limited medical insurance coverage for visitors with a ceiling of ฿500,000 for 30 days after they first enter Thailand while 88.7% will go to a fund to be used by the government to develop foreign tourism infrastructure in the kingdom. However, ongoing efforts to implement the proposal have repeatedly been stalled or postponed since 2019 and even before this, similar moves in 2006 and 2013, all fell through. Many observers feel that the likelihood of a General Election being called between now and the end of 2022 as well as the pressing and critical economic need to boost foreign tourism numbers with increased international flight connections and frequency into Thailand may see the plan being postponed yet again. Efforts by Thailand to introduce a new tourist levy to be known as the Thailand Tourism Fee (TTF) are making slow progress after it was confirmed this week that the plan is currently being delayed over discussions to formulate a method to collect the charge for incoming travellers by land and sea. It has also emerged that the proposed collection method has generated resistance from the international airline industry who are being asked to charge the fee which involves communication between Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports and aircraft with the finalised passenger manifest required to be transmitted to Bangkok 15 minutes after takeoff for each incoming flight to the kingdom.
