  2. By YANG HAN in Hong Kong | China Daily Thailand has been urged to introduce clearer regulations on the use of cannabis following the government's decision to legalize the growing and consumption of the drug for food and drink products. In the wake of the nation's move on June 9 to become the first in Asia to decriminalize marijuana, some experts have called the decision hasty and "immature". "The Thai cannabis policy is very immature," said Sarana Sommano, an associate professor at Chiang Mai University's Department of Plant and Soil Sciences. She said the government should have studied the consequences of such a move and closed any loopholes before going ahead with the legalization. "The regulation should be set in place that we only allow medicinal and therapeutic uses in Thailand," Sarana said. Thailand's Department of Health said that food outlets must get permission to sell products containing cannabis, public broadcaster Thai PBS reported on Sunday. The move by Thailand has also triggered warnings from other countries in Asia. Sarana said the government should consider carefully how to respond to the concerns, especially as the economy relies heavily on tourism. 4. Picture: Siam Rath Traders in Nakhon Ratchasima are the latest to complain about Thailand's infamous hanging wires and cables. Some have facetiously called them the eighth wonder of the world like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. They even came to the attention of Microsoft's Bill Gates. Siam Rath were contacted by the chief of the Kha Thong Kham traders' association and business people of Chinese ancestry with companies on Hua Mankorn Korat road in the north eastern Thai city. Chaichana Praphrittipong said that a car had already been damaged by sparks from the wires and there were fears things would get worse. Electrical engineers were on the scene taking pictures and preparing remedial work. In 2016 Bill Gates famously raised the issue of the wires on a holiday in Thailand. He took photos. Picture: Siam Rath This prompted PM Prayuth Chan-ocha to spend billions of baht burying cables in Bangkok and Pattaya and other cities. But many places remain an eyesore, and a dangerous one at that. Many motorcyclists get entangled in the wires, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-13 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Those arrested were taken for ATK tests and prosecuted for illegal entry. 15. 100 or 500: How seat calculation method could decide Thai election winner By Thai PBS World’s Political Desk Thaksin Shinawatra’s recent boast that his proxy party Pheu Thai could win by a landslide at the next general election, expected early next year, seems to have scared leaders in the ruling coalition. 16. By Thai PBS World’s Political Desk Thaksin Shinawatra’s recent boast that his proxy party Pheu Thai could win by a landslide at the next general election, expected early next year, seems to have scared leaders in the ruling coalition. The fear apparently prompted them to make a last-minute change to the draft election bill, by switching the formula used to calculate how many votes are needed for a party to earn one of the 100 party-list MP seats in Parliament. Parliament last Wednesday (July 6) voted to approve a proposal by New Palang Dharma Party leader Ravee Maschamadol to divide the total number of party-list votes by 500, rather than 100 as originally proposed. The 500 figure is the total number of MP seats in Parliament. Ravee cited the Constitution’s principle that “every vote counts”, though he admitted his proposal would also ensure smaller parties could win seats with fewer votes while reducing the chances of a landslide win by a large party. The Constitution was amended last year to change the composition of the next Lower House from 350 constituency MPs and 150 party-list MPs to 400 and 100 respectively. 17. Chuwit latest! Former soapy boss suggests RTP chief powerless to stop Chinese owned "drug" pub in Bangkok that opens to 4am Daily News Thai Caption: RTP shocker! 18. Daily News Thai Caption: RTP shocker! Former politician and soapy massage boss Chuwit Kamolwisit was at his cryptic best in a post on Facebook widely reported by the Thai press. Chuwit is famous for his remarks about corruption especially in Thailand's nightlife realm. The press often hang on the one time TV presenter's every gem of wisdom, notes ASEAN NOW. Daily News made no attempt to interpret his remarks about a pub that Chuwit claimed was openly operating until four am in downtown Bangkok where the Royal Thai Police - and principally its chief - are powerless to act. Chuwit said if you go there you'll find more than half the patrons in sunglasses and more than 50% would test positive (purple urine tests) for drugs - both pills and powder. It's full of young people partying, owned by a Chinese man who operates without a care in the world thanks to "connections" in the "Land of Smiles." Don't think it's just Thais that make money in Thailand, Chuwit told his adoring faithful on Facebook. So where is this untouchable nightspot, what is its name and who owns it. Chuwit dangled some Thai letters not specifically naming anything or anyone. It's called "ท." he said. That would mean it starts with a "T". It's on "ร." - a road starting with an "R". It's at the "ห." intersection. Words that start with this letter could start with an H, or many other letters for that matter! It's in the "ส." police jurisdiction. That means it starts with an "S". It's run by a Chinese man known as "David". Chuwit said he doesn't reveal much these days. Next off he'll be revealing things about a casino. Stay tuned! ASEAN NOW notes that Suthisan police station is in downtown Bangkok and the main thoroughfare of Rachada Phisek runs through it. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-13 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
