  1. By Pichayapa Phiwpong The Ministry of Commerce’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office has come out to say that the minimum cost of living in the city stood at 18,088 baht against the current minimum salary of a graduate of 15,000 baht/month. The Ministry of Commerce’s Trade Policy and Strategy Office said that the survey it had undertaken in the month of June, showed that the average household spending per month stood at 18,088 baht. This is a far cry from the minimum wage for a new graduate that currently stands at mere 15,000 baht per month, while the promise by the 2014 coup leader Prayut Chan-o-cha to raise the minimum wages for new graduates to 20,000 during its 2019 election campaign, remains unfulfilled. PHOTO: Matichon By Nop Meechukhun National – Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul vows to listen to all suggestions to help prevent the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus while claiming that the Ministry never supported or specifically said to remove mask mandates and stop wearing masks in public. His statements come only two weeks after the mask mandate was eased by the Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha in a surprise late night order, following months of back and forth debate between the tourism and business industry who wanted it eased, especially the outside mandate and because the business sector claims many foreign tourists have no interest in wearing masks, and doctors and the medical sector who support the mandate staying with no specific offramp. Anutin revealed during a press interview yesterday, July 6th, after Dr. Prasit Wattanapha, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, urged the Ministry to propose measures to enforce masks in closed or poorly ventilated areas that the Ministry will listen to every proposal and idea suggested by all departments. 19. Picture: Sanook Sanook Thai Caption: The rules need to change A beautiful Thai teacher in Chumphon, southern Thailand, has decided to pull out of the Miss Universe Thailand pageant 2022 after an old education department rule was uncovered. Khru Jupjaeng - real name Kanokwan Chusuk, aged 25 - managed to get in the last 30 round from an original quota of 200 contestants. Picture: Sanook Then she found out about the rule introduced in 1961 that states that female teachers in Thailand can't take part in beauty pageants. They could even be sacked if they do. This caused much debate and laughs about fuddy-duddy Thailand in official beauty circles and among the public. Picture: Sanook On Wednesday Sanook reporters went to the Wat Hat Phankrai school in Muang district where Jupjaeng is a math teacher. Her director Jaran Petchdee said he had never seen the rule and neither had people at the education department. Picture: Sanook He supported his teacher in her aspirations and felt that it was ridiculous that in this day and age people should be barred from taking part in beauty pageants from any walk of life. The contests often show that women can be excellent role models and offer their opinions about social issues. That fits in well with teachers, he said. Picture: Sanook He said what happened was up to the bigwigs at the ministry, however. Jupjaeng said that she applied to the contest herself and never thought she would be selected for the final rounds. But she had been contacted by someone who told her about the old rule and after consultation with a respected elder she had decided to take the decision herself to pull out. She said that it was a pity and she hopes to apply again if and when the rules are changed. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 21. Picture: Siam Rath Police in Chonburi soon had a man who attempted to steal a gold bracelet from a Chonburi gold shop in custody and performing a reenactment. Siam Rath reported that on Monday a man with a short back and sides haircut had gone into the Saeng Suwan gold shop after arriving on a motorcycle. He made it look as though he was interested in buying a two baht weight bracelet and put it on his wrist. He then tried to run out but the automatic door had slammed shut. He took off the bracelet and gave it back then smashed down the door and fled. Khomsan or Golf, aged 33, was soon arrested at a house in Pan Thong district by the Don Hua Lor police after they obtained a warrant. He was taken back to the shop to "wai" and do a reenactment. Picture: Siam Rath Shop owner Rachaya, 32, said she suspected trouble when she saw the would-be robber's hands shaking. After he failed to get out she came up with a ruse that there was a man out back in the shop to worry him resulting in his fleeing by damaging the door. Police said that Golf was formerly in the army and liked the haircut so he stuck with it in civilian life. He is now in the custody of the police awaiting his prosecution. A two baht weight bracelet would have a value of just over 60,000 baht, notes ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-07-07 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
