Thailand Tightens Rules on Crypto Advertising by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has rolled out new rules on advertising for cryptocurrency companies as the industry comes under greater scrutiny from authorities. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has rolled out new rules on advertising for cryptocurrency companies as the industry comes under greater scrutiny from authorities. The SEC said last week that the new rules include clearly showing investment risks in advertisements and providing a balanced view of potential risk and returns. Information on advertising terms must also be provided to regulators. The SEC said, "Operators must give details of ads and spending including the use of influencers and bloggers to the SEC including terms and time frame," adding that operators had 30 days to comply with the new rules. Crypto companies in Thailand advertise heavily on digital media and billboards promoting the industry can also be seen throughout Bangkok. The regulator in recent days has also handed out fines to crypto companies, with many operations hit by a global slump in the value of digital currencies. Samret Wajanasathian, an executive from local operator, Bitkub, was fined 8.5 million baht (US$231,670.75) this week for insider trading. Samret has said he would appeal the decision. Last month, Thailand’s fourth largest lender by assets, SCBX Pcl, scrapped its planned acquisition of Bitkub over regulatory concerns. Rival operator Asia-focused Zipmex was fined 1.92 million baht last Wednesday (31 Aug) for suspending withdrawals in late July. Happy reunion for woman whose cat had been missing for a month There has been a rare and happy reunion between a cat and its owner, after the feline went missing from home in Hat Yai district in the southern province of Songkhla about a month ago. Last week the animal was found wandering along an expressway in Bangkok by a Good Samaritan and has now been returned safely to the owner. The story of the cat, named “Moo Tha”, was posted on the Si Rat-Outer Ring Road Expressway webpage. When the owner, Jiratsabok Pitiphipat, learned that her cat had been found, she immediately flew from Hat Yai to Bangkok to claim it and brought it home by train on Sunday. Crazy taxi driver reported - police do nothing, DLT informed - Twitter rife with comment about previous case Picture: INN INN reported that comment was rife on Twitter after a post about an over excited taxi driver who had scared a member of the public so much that they filed a police report. Picture: INN INN reported that comment was rife on Twitter after a post about an over excited taxi driver who had scared a member of the public so much that they filed a police report. However, the police said there was no crime committed and they would do nothing. So the Tweeter went to the DLT for some action. The tweet appeared under the name of Latte About A Boy (name transliterated from Thai and possibly incorrect). The Tweeter said that at 4.40 am on September 1st they had been with the taxi driver who was laughing and closing his eyes and shouting all the time that he wanted a tip. All while driving. The final straw came when he laughed and stuck his tongue out. The poster said after the police failed to accept a report that he was confused with the Thai law. Others on the platform suggested this was the same driver previously reported on August 19th who was a big guy in a green and yellow cab possibly with the number 1 มค 351 (or something like that). Then a passenger had had a scary experience. The latest poster having received no joy from the police has now filed a complaint with the Department of Land Transport via 1584 instead. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-05 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Taxi driver pervert arrested for sexual molestation of a child - it began when girl was 5/6 Picture: Siam Rath Don Muang police in Bangkok have announced the arrest of a taxi driver for sexual molestation of a child under 13. Picture: Siam Rath Don Muang police in Bangkok have announced the arrest of a taxi driver for sexual molestation of a child under 13. He said he only molested the child, it wasn't rape. Somboon Thafeuang, 56, was picked up on a warrant while driving his cab in the Ratchathewi area of the Thai capital. Earlier a social activist known as Kan Jormpalang had taken the mother of a 12 year old child named only as "A" to file a police report for rape and sexual molestation at an address in Soi Wat Weluwanaram, Don Muang. It was committed by a neighbor, the taxi driver. The suspect has told investigators that the abuse began when the child was only 5 or 6 years old. He said that on four occasions since then he had removed the child's lower garments and placed his sexual organ next to the child's to satisfy his sexual urges. He said there had been no penetration, no rape. He said that he got sexual urges by carrying the child on his shoulders. He admitted to giving money in the sum of 20-100 baht to two siblings. It emerged that 20 years ago before coming to work in Bangkok the suspect had done the same thing in his hometown. He was palefaced and did not respond to reporters' questions, reported Siam Rath. Police said a charge of rape may follow after test results are in. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-05 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. NE: Hunt on for "cruel man" who shot and hurt family's pet dog that got out in the street Sanook Thai Caption: Why did you shoot the little (doggie)? Sanook reported that social media in Khon Kaen, north eastern Thailand, was full of comment after a family's pet dog was shot in the street. Sanook Thai Caption: Why did you shoot the little (doggie)? Sanook reported that social media in Khon Kaen, north eastern Thailand, was full of comment after a family's pet dog was shot in the street. The assailant was carrying a rifle and riding a bicycle before he fled the scene. The dog - a five year old male of Thai breed by the name of Minion - got out when a delivery man arrived and the gate was opened, according to the owner. But the owner admitted they often let the dog out in the morning. Relatives in the house related how they heard barking and a shot. The shot ripped into the dog's abdomen and upper leg and ruptured a lung. Vets said that from now on the animal will only be able to hobble along on three legs. Chief of the Muang district police Pol Col Preecha Kengsakij said his men were actively seeking a tall, thin man aged about 30-40 who was carrying a rifle. After studying CCTV he called the attack "brazen" and promised a quick arrest. Sanook did not mention anything about dog owners allowing their pets to run in the street, notes ASEAN NOW. They just posed the question as to who would shoot a "nong" calling the perpetrator cruel. While shooting an animal like this is deplorable and could attract a two year prison sentence, many people are fed up with irresponsible owners who let their dogs out to defecate in the street or bite people, suggests ASEAN NOW. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-09-05 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Bangkok launches pilot separated food waste collection service The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has launched a pilot project to use specially-designed compressed garbage trucks which have separate bins for food waste, in the hope of reducing the costs of garbage disposal. According to Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, the special garbage trucks, which are painted in green with a bold statement which reads “No Mixing (of food waste)”, will initially be introduced in Phaya Thai, Pathumwan and Nong Khaem districts for a month, after which the City Hall will assess the results. If the pilot is successful, he said that the project will gradually be expanded to cover all 50 districts in the capital by March. Pattaya: Restaurant owner goes to police to report customer's post - she's forced to "grovel" with flowers Picture: Sanook A customer of a restaurant in Pattaya was forced to grovel with the presentation of flowers in a huge bouquet after she angered the owner of the restaurant. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1270951-pattaya-restaurant-owner-goes-to-police-to-report-customers-post-shes-forced-to-grovel-with-flowers/ -
Picture: Sanook A customer of a restaurant in Pattaya was forced to grovel with the presentation of flowers in a huge bouquet after she angered the owner of the restaurant. Wiphada, 53, went on TikTok to moan after getting home and realising she'd been given vegetarian fried rice instead of "khao phat talay" - seafood fried rice. She thought she'd ordered the more expensive dish for her kid. The owner of Mum Aroi (delicious corner) went to the Bang Lamung police and filed a report immediately about damage to her business. At the weekend a contrite Wiphada - whose face was vaselined out in the Sanook round-up of events - presented the expensive looking bouquet to Wanphen Tophanich. Wiphada said it had all been a misunderstanding and she was sorry for any damage she might have done to the reputation of the restaurant. Sanook said it had all ended happily as the wais were made. This in defamation crazy Thailand where customers who complain can find themselves in trouble with the police. Picture: Sanook Even if they are in the right, notes ASEAN NOW. Wiphada groveled: "I didn't mean to cause them damage, I was in a mood and didn't check the bill. I'll try to think more in the future (before posting) so it doesn't happen again. I'm so sorry. "We are regular customers and we'll definitely be going back to this restaurant," she continued effusively," "The owner is so lovely with a wonderful temperament". Wanphen said that her staff are well trained in taking orders and that she accepted the customer apology and would remove the police complaint. She was pictured smiling by the Pattaya beachfront, her reputation intact. ASEAN NOW cautions against publicly shaming businesses in Thailand - even if you think you're in the right the law will most likely side with the business. Not you.
