District chief Kijja Saowaros helped the old man with compiling the evidence needed and a new card was done in just seven minutes and presented to him by local official Rayes Rai. It was all smiles but Kaew was not letting on why he had not renewed his card for so long. Picture: Sanook Sanook reported that a factory worker at an industrial estate in Lamphun in the north of Thailand went to the police after getting a shock when checking on a Krung Thai banking app as to whether her monthly salary had been paid. She was due about 10,000 baht. But when Sujitra, 36, from Nong Chang Kheun sub-district checked she had 1,063,863.15 baht in her account. Almost ten years wages! She said her heart started pumping and she didn't know what to do at first fearing that a drugs gang was laundering money with her. She decided to take half a day off and go with a friend to the bank who checked and found the money was really in her account. Sanook quoted an unnamed senior police source as saying they think the money is connected to a 68 million baht fraud perpetrated by a dentist and relatives conning people out of money in relation to an iron or steel and mask business. Money was being transferred by the gang so that they might avoid capture. The source expected other people to come forward with sums of money transferred to their accounts. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 12. Thai Caption: The moment (a man) was shot in ambush Sanook published a shocking video showing CCTV from an outside area at a house in Moo 7 Nong Nok Khai, Krathum Baen, Samut Sakhon on Wednesday. The video can be viewed by following the link here. It shows a completely normal family scene as a man attends to paperwork in a plastic chair next to a relative reading and another watching TV. A shot then rings out and the man slumps. The family soon realise that he has been shot in the head. Narongrit Kaetkaew, 58, is still in ICU after surgery. Sanook reporters went to the house yesterday and spoke to Bee, the victim's granddaughter, who said that her grandfather had just been to a funeral, come home, had a shower and was checking some papers while sitting in a plastic chair around 9 pm. She had no idea where the shot came from though she suspected it was from someone who was in a banana orchard 50 meters away. Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: Sanook She said that her granddad is involved in the orchard business selling fruit and vegetables and for the last year had taken on the role of mayoral secretary in the local government. She said he is a lovely guy who is fun to be around and never mentioned any problems in his life. If he had any he would only tell his wife but she was unaware of any difficulties. However, Bee felt sure this had to do with local politics. She said everyone was profoundly shocked by what had happened and called on the police to solve the case quickly. Krathum Baen chief of police Pol Col Serithakan Janduang said that both his men and the provincial police were taking the case very seriously. Forensics had been on the scene gathering evidence and the CCTV at the house and CCTV in the area would be used to try and catch the person responsible. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 21. Managing back pain, what’s the good news? By Editor Back pain is something many of us will experience at some stage during our lives and the most common reason for seeking physiotherapy management. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1260887-managing-back-pain-what’s-the-good-news/
  22. By Editor Back pain is something many of us will experience at some stage during our lives and the most common reason for seeking physiotherapy management. In this article we explore the reasons behind back pain with physiotherapist Nutnarinee Lerdsatittroong, better known as Khun Prahn. She’s the founder of Hua Hin’s ‘The Movement Clinic’, offering a range of services all about improving mobility, and that often means managing back pain. Your spine is made up of separate bones called vertebrae which are connected together by a series of ligaments and soft tissue. The lower part of your spine is joined to the sacrum which is part of your pelvis. The curves, shapes and various sizes of the vertebrae (along with the discs found in between them), help to evenly distribute the weight of your body on the spine and create the flexibility necessary to bend or rotate your back. A complex group of muscles are attached to the spine which allows you to move your back. There are also postural muscles which help to maintain the shape and curves of your spine, keeping them in the correct position, as well as help to keep you upright. The spinal cord passes through the centre of each vertebra. The cord ends in your lower back where it becomes a series of strands called the “cauda equina” (horses tail). Either side of each vertebra are spinal nerve exits from the spinal cord which pass sensory and motor signals between your brain and a certain part of your body which the nerve innervates. Khun Prahn says the most common cause of back pain, especially lower back pain, is a combination of poor posture, including when lifting heavy objects, and lack of movement, typically seen with people who sit for long periods. This is known as mechanical back pain and is not a serious condition. However, it can be uncomfortable and frustrating to experience a constant ache or pain in your back. Physiotherapy is ideal for treating mechanical back pain. Along with advice on correcting your posture, appropriate exercises and self-treatment techniques, your back pain should quickly be resolved. When you first start to develop postural back pain, it often manifests itself as a low-grade ache normally combined with stiffness in your lower back. Symptoms tend to be relieved with light exercise or by avoiding long periods of sitting, for example not so much computer time. But if symptoms are ignored, the pain will become constant, just varying in degrees. The level of stiffness may also increase as well as your golf handicap! Poor posture is often the result of weak or imbalanced core muscles which help maintain the spine in the correct position – like guidelines of a tent. When these muscles are weak it is very difficult to keep your spine in the correct or neutral position, especially when sitting for long periods. Eventually, the soft tissue structures around the spine become overloaded, initially manifesting as a dull ache across your lower back, but if the overload is not reduced, eventually pain and stiffness will develop. Other muscles may also be contributing to developing poor posture and back pain. For example, your main leg muscles (hamstrings and quadriceps) can become tight from inactivity, sitting or driving for long periods. As a result, the increased tension from either of these muscles can pull your pelvis out of position and increase the tension on your lower back. Then further sitting will exacerbate the overload to your lower back, resulting in pain. Lower back pain which develops from running is normally due to poor running technique. Your back pain when running may also be caused by poor posture due to weak core muscles. This is where carrying out a proper warm-up prior to running is essential. The cause of lower back pain whilst road cycling and mountain biking is generally caused by an incorrect bike position set-up. For example, the saddle to handlebar distance is too short or too long. The end result is the same, and back pain and stiffness may develop. However, there are more complex causes of back pain, with symptoms related to conditions other than poor posture. For example, disc prolapse, joint impingement, spondylitis, osteoporosis, arthritis or fractures all require a more detailed assessment. Some symptoms need to be properly assessed to diagnose the cause of your back pain and provide appropriate treatment, management and advice, especially the following: Pins and needles or numbness in the buttocks, lower limbs or feet Pain going down the back or front of your leg More severe back pain, especially when bending forward Excessive levels of stiffness in your lower back Unsteadiness when standing or walking Difficulties passing or controlling bladder or bowels or numbness in either area If you have a previous history of cancer or osteoporosis Back pain accompanied by unexplained weight loss or fever Back pain affects primarily the lower back and the good news is, that in most cases, the cause of pain is not serious and can be resolved. 24. Picture: Thai Rath Thai Rath reported that two rescue foundations in Nakhon Sri Thammarat in southern Thailand were called after an old man in a house in Khlang sub-district heard his dog barking at a giant water monitor. Prasit, 89, was worried that his dog would get attacked by the fierce creature. The animal did not come quietly. The rescue teams utilizing nooses on the end of PVC poles couldn't get him at first but used some bait to distract him. But he got away again and took up residence in a wall that had to be partially knocked down with a hammer. Finally after an hour the 50 kilogram specimen was bound up and only slightly injured. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Locals then asked permission of the animal - a kind of Thai tradition - and covered parts of it in powder to try and discern numbers for the next draw in the lottery (June 1st). The appearance of such creatures in houses is seen as auspicious and an omen for lottery wins, notes ASEAN NOW. Water monitors - tua ngern tua thong in Thai or more vulgarly "tua hia" - are a protected species in Thailand. Once vilified and even attacked they are now seen as more of a lucky thing. Prasit said he thought the creature came from woods behind his house and was looking for food. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-27 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
