Daily News Thai Caption: Beware of criminals Daily News went to investigate after a Facebook warning by a pharmacist on the Bang Kruay to Sai Noi Road near Land Villa estate in Nonthaburi. Yuthaphon Rattanapong, 40, the husband of the owner of the chemists, said a woman aged about 45-50 had come into the store that had 3 or 4 people working at the time and bought an iten for about 400 baht and paid with a 1,000 baht note. After the change was given she claimed that a 500 baht note had not been given to her. No one in the store had noticed. The woman was adamant and used a variety of distraction techniques to convince the seller that it was their mistake. She was given 500 baht from the till and left. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: Daily News Only after the woman had left the store and the CCTV was checked was it noted that the woman had secreted the origianl 500 baht bill into a bag she was holding. Thus it was the pharmacy that was short changed, not the customer who escaped with the goods and with more money than they came in with. Yuthaphan said this was happening more and more in these tough economic times and what with other forms of theft from stores it was all terrible for shopkeepers. He advised that CCTV is checked in such situations before extra change is given and the customer leaves. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-06-06 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. by Natthaphon Sangpolsit BANGKOK (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism recently elaborated on the performance of Thailand’s tourism sector during the pandemic, noting that its post-pandemic rebound could generate 3 trillion baht in two years. The remarks were made as part of the government’s explanation at the parliament’s fiscal budget debate, during which the opposition accused the proposed 2023 budget of being inequitable. Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said the number of international tourists visiting Thailand before the pandemic numbered 39.8 million, contributing to some 3 trillion baht that accounted for 18% of national GDP. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe In 2021, Thailand recorded just 430,000 international visitors. The figure from the beginning of this year through May increased to 1.31 million, marking a positive start for 2022. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports now expects the number of international tourists from June through September this year to be around 2.7-3 million, and more than 1 million between October and December 2022. The ministry has set a total international tourism target for this year at 7-10 million people and expects the nation to reel in 1.15-1.5 trillion baht. The ministry anticipates that the tourism revenue will touch 2.4 trillion baht next year and the pre-pandemic figure of 3 trillion baht in 2024. The tourism minister said health and medical tourism remains a strong sell, especially following the prime minister’s visit to Saudi Arabia which attracted more medical tourists from the Middle East. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-06-06 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
