  2. Cult followers advised to get check-ups after consuming their own bodily discharges Followers of a cult leader in a village in Khon San district of Thailand’s north-eastern province of Chaiyaphum have been advised to get medical check-ups at their nearest hospital after they consumed their own urine, feces, scurf, pus, and phlegm on the recommendation of the cult’s leader, to “cure their illnesses”. The leader, a 75-year-old man, has been arrested in Chaiyaphum on initial charges of encroachment on public land and violation of the Communicable Diseases Act. Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Director-General of the Department of Disease Control Department (DDC) Dr. Opart Karnkawinpong said today (Monday) that human urine, excrement and other discharges are unhygienic and must not be consumed, especially feces, which is infested with harmful bacteria which can lead to diarrhea, cholera and other serious diseases. Police raided the cult’s “monastery” in Chaiyaphum’s Dong Klang sub-district on Saturday, following a tip-off that there are 11 cadavers being kept in coffins in the compound and that the cult leader had provided bizarre treatments to his follower. Dozens of jars containing the concoctions were also found. 3. Can Thailand afford not to host a Formula One Grand Prix? by Michael Bridge Now that the green light has been given for The Buriram International Circuit (known as Chang International Circuit) to host its second MotoGP later this year, could this be the time for Thailand to put in a bid to attract the much bigger and higher-profile Formula One to the land of smiles? 4. by Michel Bridge Now that the green light has been given for The Buriram International Circuit (known as Chang International Circuit) to host its second MotoGP later this year, could this be the time for Thailand to put in a bid to attract the much bigger and higher-profile Formula One to the land of smiles? If any of you F1 fans saw the incredible buzz generated by the new Miami Grand Prix held this weekend, the publicity gained will pay huge dividends for the city and Florida for months. We know that the feedback from the Moto GP riders to racing in Thailand was a big thumbs up, as they all voted the Buriram weekend a few years back as the best run race on their calendar that season. Certainly, the income generated from overseas fans booking trips to Thailand paid off big time for the TAT. Singapore has recently resigned a long-term contract to continue hosting their night grand prix so the city elders must be incredibly pleased with the results there. Perhaps the mix of small towns and F1 has not always been successful, as the Korean Grand Prix was dropped from the Formula One calendar only three years after it was unveiled in the rural county of Yeongam in 2010. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Could Buriram cope? If Thailand has a realistic chance to attract the Formula Grand, they will need to find a new location away from the countryside, possibly in Bangkok or even Pattaya. Las Vegas will host a race in 2023 and the organisers are looking for more razzle dazzle locations in the future to provide exciting TV coverage. Some years ago, apparently, a proposed route for Thailand's future Formula 1 Grand Prix had been agreed upon, according to officials in the country. Then the Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand was quoted as saying that the committee behind the project had given the green light to circuit plans. Starting and finishing at the Royal Thai Naval Dockyard, the 5.995-km (3.725-mi) layout would take in various tourist attractions, including the Grand Palace, Victory Monument and Temple of Dawn, while a capacity of 150,000 has been estimated. The starting and finishing point would be on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. Certainly, it would provide a superb amount of great publicity for the city and attract thousands of F1 fans to stay in the city and party. Remember Alex Albon who is currently doing well at Williams Racing is Thai, so what better time to say to F1, forget Russia and think of Thailand instead. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-05-10 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 14. Palm Oil Production Slows Amid Price Surge by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Producers of bottled palm oil are reportedly facing higher costs following a spike in global prices. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1259077-palm-oil-production-slows-amid-price-surge/
  15. by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Producers of bottled palm oil are reportedly facing higher costs following a spike in global prices. World crude palm oil leaped to 62-63 baht/kg from 53 baht/kg during the pre-Songkran period. Fresh palm is currently priced at 13 baht/kg, over three times the state-guaranteed price of 4 baht. The Ministry of Commerce previously set the ceiling price of bottled palm oil at 70 baht per bottle, though the actual price is now around 77-78 baht per bottle. Manufacturers have been forced to shoulder the excess costs. Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Several palm oil producers have since resorted to slowing down their production line, while others are using stocked crude palm oil or mixing palm oil with other types of vegetable oil to prevent shortages. A number of manufacturers have also started exporting local crude palm oil to foreign nations offering more lucrative deals. Thailand exported about 112,000 metric tons of crude palm oil in March, seven times higher than the previous month. The April figure is likely to continue this trend. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-05-09 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
