Daily News That Caption: 300,000 B (reward) actually paid Daily News published a charming story about a post online on the page Kingdom of Tigers in which a cat owner said their pet had gone missing and offered a 300,000 baht reward. It was no ordinary cat; a short haired Scottish Fold breed called Manee. The breed is known for having a natural gene mutation affecting cartilage that flops the cat's ears forward. Eighteen year old night shift security guard Piya Phoonsanthia was the first to see the missing moggy. But he was unable to catch her and she ran off into some neighbors' houses. He called Manee's owner to say he had made the sighting. In hinsight this proved a wise decision. The cat eventually went back home of its own accord prompting netizens to speculate as to who - if anyone - would get the reward. This has now been answered in an online post by Piya who works at the Noble Tara Town in Town 3 estate in Bangkok. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Picture: Facebook He was grasping 300,000 baht in fresh banknotes. He spoke of his thanks and the fact that the cat bears the same name as his mum Manee who he went to bless at Songkran. He also plans to use some of his windfall - perhaps two years or more salary for a young security guard - to make merit. -- © Copyright ASEAN NOW 2022-04-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. BMTA Seeks to Hire Private Company to Run EV Bus Fleet by Krajangwit Johjit BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) is moving forward with a plan to hire a private company to operate a 400-bus electric-vehicle fleet. by Krajangwit Johjit BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) is moving forward with a plan to hire a private company to operate a 400-bus electric-vehicle fleet. BMTA CEO Kittikan Chomdoung Charuworapolkul said as part of its rehabilitation plan, the agency would hire a private company to procure 400 electric buses, as well as drivers and fare collectors, to serve passengers at BMTA’s eight bus terminals. According to Kittikan, the budget for the plan is allocated from the BMTA’s revenue set aside for maintenance and gasoline costs, as well as the state subsidy for public service obligations. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe The BMTA CEO dismissed a claim by the BMTA’s labor union that the executive board was overspending on hiring a private company to operate the EV fleet, which cost more than 6,000 baht per bus per day. He explained that the BMTA was paying the same amount of money for its current fleet of standard red-and-beige buses. The BMTA’s rehabilitation plan, which was recently approved by its executive board, calls for a private concessionaire to operate 400 electric buses. An auction is scheduled for May to select the concessionaire, and the winner is required to begin procuring EV buses by October, with at least 30 percent of the fleet being procured within a year. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-04-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Finance Min to Find New Budget to Stimulate Economy by Na-ark Rojanasuvan BANGKOK (NNT) - Officials are evaluating the current state of the Thai economy and determining the appropriate stimulus measures. by Na-ark Rojanasuvan BANGKOK (NNT) - Officials are evaluating the current state of the Thai economy and determining the appropriate stimulus measures. Finance Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith earlier assigned the task to the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO). He directed the FPO to determine whether Thailand still needs more cash flow to be injected into its economy. He commented that, even if the need is there for more economic stimulus programs, it is not necessary to borrow more. The minister explained that since the economy started to recover, the administration was able to earn more revenue. Thus, further evaluation is needed to determine the necessity of an additional stimulus package. Keep up to date with all things Thailand - Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe Minister Arkhom also talked about the recent instruction from Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to find more lenders and potentially study the next phase of the government’s popular 50-50 copay campaign. He clarified that the order was actually to find capital to fund essential projects. The Finance Minister also stressed that borrowing is not the focus, as the nation already borrowed 1.5 trillion baht previously to mitigate the impact of the global pandemic. Arkhom said that the economy of many countries are beginning to return to normal via investments, employment, and income generation. Thailand could also do the same, with the emphasis being placed on investment triggering more cash flow in the economy. Careful consideration is being made for the next phase of the 50-50 copay program, as the initiative has a high upkeep cost. -- © Copyright NNT 2022-04-22 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. OPINION | By Tulsathit Taptim Reporters being tumultuously curious about Jurin Laksanavisit’s and the Democrat Party’s future tells a lot about where the country is heading when sexual harassment and domestic violence are concerned. The case of Prinn Panitchpakdi is a big political blow for the Democrats, but truth is that it happens at many other places, too. More or less, better or worse, it’s occurring, either in luxurious buildings or ramshackle houses. Problem is, if it does not involve celebrities, billionaires, high-ranking officials or politicians, the chances of making the front page, let alone courtrooms, are next to nothing. Join our daily ASEAN NOW Thailand Newsletter - Click to subscribe This makes the entire trouble hard to solve. As long as major questions stemming from the Prinn affair have to do with whether Jurin, who allegedly brought the man into the party and promoted him at the expense of Korn Chatikavanij, should resign; how the scandal would affect the Democrats politically; or how much the controversy would impact political divisions in Thailand, the majority of the iceberg will remain solidly underwater.
