  3. Picture: Thai Rath That Rath followed up on the story of a female boxer called Pareploy Saeaia who attacked a man who had earlier poured a beer over her head. Pareploy was shown on video aiming a few kicks and expletives at the man all caught on video. But they said many people in Thailand were perplexed that they were both fined the same, even though the charges were slightly different when they went to Huay Khwang police station following the incident at a khao tom restaurant in Bangkok. The man - a former hotel employee who has now lost his job over the incident - was fined 500 baht for the beer tipping, deemed as dirty and offensive, and 500 baht for affray. The female boxer was charged 500 baht for assault and 500 for affray (essentially being drunk and disorderly). The media noted that with the man losing his job he had been dealt a double whammy by society and the law - perhaps deserved in the eyes of many seeing as he started it after his "clink glasses" request was rejected and he did the beer pouring. Picture: Thai Rath House legal expert Wanchai Sornsiri told the media that a court would take into consideration if an assault occurred immediately after a beer pouring incident of this nature as then it could be construed as acting in anger on the spur of the moment. How long the spur of the moment was, was a matter of debate. The woman could have been jailed for what she did, noted Wanchai, as courts can give sentences for up to 2 years for assault. But he noted that the police probably saw it for what it was - a minor assault. Though in his opinion he thought that due to the circumstances the woman involved could still argue that she acted on the spur of the moment out of anger. The man's smiles when being assaulted could also amount to ridiculing the woman, he suggested. The incident is doing the rounds of Thai and foreign social media as the public debate the issue, notes ASEAN NOW. Especially given the job of the woman involved - known in the ring as "Petchploy Khwatonsung". He told the associated Thai press: “The main reason our cases are rising was because we opened more activities and social activities have increased greatly. Only pubs, bars, nightclubs, karaoke lounges, basically the nighttime economy is not fully opened for service as usual but many have opened with permission as modified restaurants and some adjusted rules. Now we are almost living normally, so it wasn’t surprising that the infections are increasing. However, we don’t want the public to be overly concerned about “cases” but rather look at the number of critically ill patients and deaths which were decreasing and stable.” The Director also revealed that there were about 90,000 cases currently being treated at either hospitals, hospitels (quarantine hotels), or at homes under the Home Isolation program. About 90 percent of them were having mild symptoms or were asymptomatic. Only 111 hospital cases were having severe symptoms or on ventilation, accounting for 0.1 percent. The Public Health Ministry would try to keep the number to be below 200 cases/day. The former PPRP MP who announced his resignation earlier this week told the media that he is not sure that Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, also the leader of the ruling PPRP, will be able to control all their politicians, many of whom he said he does not trust, judging by their voting in the last censure debate. Substantial budget cuts, especially for animal feed, has raised serious concern that many animals in breeding stations, operated by the Wildlife Conservation Office, will be left to starve, said President of conservationist Seub Nakhasathien Foundation Sasin Chalermlarp. Although the budget for the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, for the 2023 fiscal year, has not been cut substantially, the budget for the Wildlife Conservation Office has been reduced to 241 million baht this year, compared to more than 700 million baht three years ago. Sasin claimed that food shortages at some breeding stations have reached a critical level, adding that “there is barely any money to buy food for tigers, hundreds of monkeys and deer in breeding stations.” Full story: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/animal-feed-shortages-in-breeding-stations-reaches-critical-level-due-to-budget-cuts/ -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2022-02-10 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. On the same day, the progress of the opposition party’s liquor bill, intended to open up Thailand’s liquor industry to more competition, was also delayed by the House when it voted to send the bill to the cabinet for consideration in 60 days, an apparent new stalling tactic that has sent a the Thai-language hashtag “marriage equality” trending on Twitter as netizens voiced their disappointment and outrage. 21. Will Western tourists ever go off visiting Thailand? Thailand and its islands have been attracting all types of tourists from backpackers to celebrities with mega-yachts for many years. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1249774-will-western-tourists-ever-go-off-visiting-thailand/
  22. Thailand and its islands have been attracting all types of tourists from backpackers to celebrities with mega-yachts for many years. Great food, exceptional hotels, ancient history, and of course endless beaches have all helped Thailand win many travel awards in the past. Bangkok is often in the top five cities to visit on many travel lists. Reasonable cheap and regular flights from Europe and the States made it possible to fly here for a week or longer. In fact, many ended up enjoying their holiday lifestyle so much, they decided to move here permanently. Is it still all smiles? As we all know since the pandemic hit Asia, the smile disappeared from the country known as simply the “Land of Smiles.” The Tourism Authority of Thailand now has an uphill battle to attract international vacationers, as governments and airlines around the globe put restrictions on travel. Firstly, actually obtaining reliable travel information is difficult, not only for individual travelers but even travel agents, who are struggling as regulations are passed out daily, often by social media. For example, who in the right mind would consider booking a three-week holiday, when there is a good chance if you test positive, you will be carted off to a Thai hospital costing up to THB10,000 a day for two weeks. Apart from the rising cost of flying due to increased fuel costs, you are also required to be insured to the hilt as well. Competition There are now also other options to get a tan during the winter months back home. Vietnam is shortly to reopen its borders again. Over the past few years, they have been beavering away building great resorts, creating many new golf courses, and they have mountains and miles of superb beaches to explore as well. Oh, and of course, HCMC and Hanoi are also fun cities to hang out too. Add in Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia and even the Philippines, and Thailand now has fierce competition right on its doorstep. Bling Bling City We should not forget Dubai which attracts a staggering sixteen million visitors a year to an area a quarter the size of Thailand. And for Europeans, it is only five hours away! So, it may take Thailand’s charm, its medical tourism, and even its fledgling Cannabis industry to still lure western travellers here in the future. I am sure many retirees will think twice before settling here in the future as visa and insurance regulations are making it harder to make ends meet. At least enjoying a cannabis cup of tea might put a smile back on their faces!!!
