  2. Three British men faced a brutal attack in Pattaya on Friday, May 24, outside the Helicopter Bar on Soi 6. The incident was sparked by a disputed bar bill. Police say they cannot proceed without an official complaint from the victims. The altercation began when a bar hostess informed the men about their outstanding bill. Their refusal to settle the payment led to a confrontation with the bar's security staff. CCTV footage shows that even after the men eventually paid, a violent brawl ensued outside. One of the guards delivered a powerful kick to the head of one man, rendering him unconscious. Despite the severity of the assault, Pattaya police have not detained the security guards involved. Sergeant Major Arthon of the Pattaya City Police Station explained, “We can only pursue a case if a complaint is filed. Efforts to locate the victims are ongoing, and CCTV footage is being reviewed to ascertain their whereabouts.” The guard who delivered the kick expressed regret in a video statement, attributing his actions to the heat of the moment and apologizing for overreacting. Samorn, a bar hostess, revealed that the men had hired sex workers and disputed the charges for these services. She claimed the altercation began when one of the men refused to pay his bill and accused the bar of scamming them. Police Colonel Nawin Thirawit, Superintendent of the Pattaya Police Station, condemned the actions of the security staff, stressing the need for professionalism to protect the city’s reputation. Despite efforts to obtain a comment from Helicopter Bar, owned by British nationals, the establishment has remained silent on the matter. 4. A large python was discovered stuck in a concrete crevice under the ceiling, with its head hanging down, in a house in Ang Thong. The homeowner quickly contacted rescue services, who used tools to safely extract the snake. The incident is believed to be a sign of good luck, prompting the homeowner to consider using the house number for a lottery ticket. The Ang Thong Rescue Association received a call for help from residents of house number 5/5, Village No. 5, Talat Kluad Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ang Thong Province. The homeowners reported that a python was trapped in a concrete crevice under the ceiling, visible with its head hanging down. Upon receiving the call, Ratha Tapianthong, along with skilled rescue personnel equipped with concrete drilling tools, was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the team met with the 58 year old homeowner, who recounted the events of the previous night. She heard unusual noises from under the ceiling and, upon inspection, found the large python with its head protruding but unable to free itself. The following morning, she contacted the rescue team to investigate. Upon inspection, the rescue team confirmed that the python’s body was indeed stuck in the concrete crevice under the ceiling. Using specialized tools, they managed to safely extract the snake. The python measured 2.40 metres in length. Lottery numbers The homeowner and neighbours believe the incident could be a sign of good fortune and intend to use house number, 5/5, Village No. 5, to purchase a lottery ticket with the number 555 in hopes of winning. “It was quite a surprise to find such a large snake stuck in our home, We are relieved that it was safely removed and hope this unusual event brings us some luck.” The rescue team’s swift response and expertise in handling reptiles ensured that the python was unharmed during the extraction process. The team emphasised the importance of contacting professionals when dealing with potentially dangerous wildlife to ensure both human and animal safety. This incident highlights the occasional interaction between humans and wildlife, particularly in areas where natural habitats are close to residential zones. The python, although startling, posed no immediate threat once it was securely handled by the rescue team. Residents expressed their gratitude towards the Ang Thong Rescue Association for their prompt and effective action. The homeowner’s decision to use the house number in the lottery reflects a common cultural belief in Thailand that unusual events can bring good fortune. As the community buzzes with talk of potential lottery winnings, the safe removal of the python remains the focal point of the story. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining vigilance and readiness to call for expert assistance in unexpected situations involving wildlife. The rescue operation was completed successfully, and the python was released back into a safe environment, away from residential areas. The homeowner and her neighbours now look forward to seeing if house number 5/5 will indeed bring them the luck they hope for in the upcoming lottery draw, reported Khaosod. by Nattapong Westwood Picture courtesy of Egor Kamelev from pexels.com Source: The Thaiger 2024-05-28 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

Held at the Defence Ministry's headquarters, the event underscored the cooperation between Thailand and Bhutan. The Bhutanese ambassador to Thailand was present to receive the weapons produced by Thai Defense Industry Co Ltd (TDI) and Weapons Manufacturing Industries Co Ltd (WMI). The transfer featured 10 First Win 4x4 armoured tactical vehicles from TDI, created in partnership with the Defence Technology Institute. 16. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), Thailand’s telecom regulator, announced today that mobile banking users can undertake transactions as usual, despite today’s enforcement of a new regulation designed to protect users from scammers. Under the new rule, the owner of a bank account with mobile banking must be the same person registered as the user of the SIM card, to prevent scammers from using “mule” accounts and “ghost” SIM cards to steal money from bank depositors electronically. The NBTC explained that it is seeking cooperation from the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) and commercial banks to enable it to coordinate with mobile phone service providers, to check the numbers of registered SIM cards which are linked to mobile banking systems. The information from the mobile service providers, Advanced Info Service (AIS) and TRUE, will then be sent to commercial banks, who will cross check it against their bank accounts with mobile banking. The information will then be passed on to AMLO and the NBTC. Full story: Thai PBS 2024-05-28 Get our Daily Newsletter - Click HERE to subscribe

The British man allegedly hit the Russian because he made sexual advances towards his wife. As we reported earlier today, Igor Yasilyev, a 36-year old Russian, was attacked by a foreign individual he met at a social event in a Pattaya villa. The incident happened at 3:16 AM at a villa situated in View Point Village on Soi Chaiyaphruek 1 in Banglamung. Yasilyev was punched in the face by the suspect, he fell and hit his head on the ground which caused him serious injuries. Despite efforts to rescue him, Yasilyev later passed away at a nearby hospital. The Pattaya City Police Station superintendent, Pol. Col. Navin Teerawit, along with his investigation team and other authorities, were ordered to find and arrest the offender this afternoon at 1:00 PM. The suspect was identified as Ricky Aaron Williams, a 35 year-old British man. Following the incident, Williams was found at his house in Sattahip District, Chonburi Province. The Pattaya police gathered evidence and secured an arrest warrant for Williams, accusing him of a deadly assault. He was then captured at a gatehouse located around 10 kilometers from the villa. 19. In a shocking incident that has shed light on the darker side of Pattaya's nightlife, three pub guards have publicly apologised after brutally assaulting two tourists. This apology came in the wake of viral video clips showing the violent beating, sparking outrage both locally and internationally. The video, posted by a Facebook user named “Nui voice AnyWay”, depicts the guards—identified as Krisana Chandmat, 25, Chakarin Yanasak, 23, and Phanuphong Chanuthai, 36—attacking two foreign tourists. Krisana admitted that the altercation began when one of the tourists, sporting a white shirt, struck him first, causing an injury that required six stitches. The head of the Pattaya police station, Pol. Col. Navin Thirawit, reminded the guards that their role was to safeguard tourists, not to incite violence that tarnishes Pattaya’s reputation. Despite their apology, the guards are expected to face charges under the Business Security Act. Eyewitnesses reported that the assault involved a barrage of punches and kicks. The unfortunate tourist in the white shirt was kicked to the ground, and when a second tourist in a grey shirt tried to intervene, he too faced a similar fate, collapsing after being kicked in the face. The altercation was witnessed by numerous bystanders, including both Thai nationals and other foreign tourists. Despite repeated pleas from the crowd, the guards continued their assault, even as the tourists pleaded for mercy. Picture courtesy: Thai Rath Investigations revealed that before the fight broke out, there was a dispute over an unpaid bill at a bar in Naklua subdistrict. A cashier, identified only as Ms. A, explained that one of the tourists had left without settling his bill, leading to a bitter argument and eventually to the violent incident. Although the two victims have yet to file an official complaint, the incident has raised serious concerns about tourist safety in Pattaya. Local authorities are now under pressure to ensure such incidents do not recur, aiming to maintain Pattaya’s image as a tourist-friendly destination. 21. The opposition Move Forward party will nominate former party leader Pita Limjaroenrat as its candidate for prime minister, if there is a “political accident” which leads to the removal or resignation of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, party leader Chaithawat Tulathon said on Monday. He also dismissed any possibility of Move Forward joining forces with the Pheu Thai party in a coalition, saying that they are political rivals. Chaithawat admitted that the Constitutional Court’s review of the prime minister’s conduct, relating to his recent appointment of once convicted and imprisoned Phichit Chuenban as PM Office minister, is shaking the government’s stability, confidence in the Thai economy as well as in the 2025 fiscal budget. Regarding the 40 senators’ attempt to remove Srettha as prime minister through the Constitutional Court, the opposition leader said he disagrees with the use of the court to judge a minister’s integrity, because of legal ambiguity and interpretation.
