  2. FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS of her brother/de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole Thaksin Shinawatra, deposed prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra would probably return home from self-exile abroad and would literally be kept far from jail upon her planned homecoming, according to a former lawmaker. Ex-Democrat MP Thepthai Senapong posted on his Facebook page today (Mar. 5) to forecast Yingluck’s planned homecoming would probably occur after the upcoming August 22 – the date on which her brother will have finished his curtailed, one-year sentence for a few counts of court-convicted misconduct. Given parole after spending a six-month period at a Bangkok hospital for undisclosed “illnesses” since that date last year, Thaksin has returned to his Chan Song Lah residence. The de facto Pheu Thai boss had not spent a single day behind bars and instead been provided privileges of a private ward at Police Hospital where he had allegedly literally taken part in power play over the setup of a Pheu Thai-led government and allocation of cabinet portfolios among coalition partners. Thepthai said Yingluck who had allegedly quietly pushed for last year’s successful naming of real estate tycoon Srettha Thavisin as head of a post-election government would probably wait until after that date in August so her brother would manipulate to bring her back home as had been the case of his own. 5. Scenes on Tuesday as Immigration Bureau police officers visited one hotel on Sukhumvit Road in connection with disturbances on Monday night and Tuesday morning. Hotels and businesses in the area categorically denied any knowledge of illicit activities. However, police are focusing on a large group of Filipino transsexuals who arrived recently, at the same time, in Thailand. Significantly, no charges have yet been brought over the clashes. Authorities probe violent clashes in Sukhumvit. Filipino trans workers under scrutiny. Concerns over visa abuses and organised crime. Tourism Minister reassures that the impact will be minimal. On Tuesday, Thai officials, police and even a senior minister were conducting a post-mortem on serious disturbances in Bangkok’s popular Sukhumvit area. Beginning on Monday night and extending into the early hours of Tuesday morning, large groups of Filipino and Thai transsexuals did battle on Sukhumvit Soi 11. The conflagration saw multiple injuries and complaints filed with nearby Lumpini Police Station. On Tuesday, Immigration Bureau Police and Tourist Police were probing further into the nature of the large groups of Filipino transsexuals who appear to be regular visitors to the area. Senior police suspect that this may be part of an organised racket linked with the sex industry. In addition, there are concerns that it may be orchestrated by influential people or criminal mafia groups. In the bustling streets of Bangkok’s Soi Sukhumvit 11, popular with many Western tourists, tensions flared on Monday night. The incident extended well into Tuesday morning culminating in a convulsive street battle. At length, a chaotic, violent and expanding brawl erupted between Thai and Filipino transsexuals. Afterwards, there were quite a few reported injuries. The disruption prompted an urgent police investigation. In particular, into the apparent influx of Filipino sex workers. The incident, which occurred in front of a hotel, marked the first openly confrontational clash between the two groups. All arrived from the Philippines on 30-day tourist visas On Tuesday morning, it led to concerns over immigration violations and illegal activities. 7. Following the assault scandal of Swiss national Urs Fehr, aka David, Phuket Peninsula Estate Co., owner of beachfront villa No. 23, took a startling step today, sending a backhoe to erase the encroaching structures, including the contentious stairway. Before their obliteration, these steps had witnessed a fateful encounter on February 24. Swiss national David allegedly kicked 26 year old Dr Thandao Chandam, accusing her of trespassing on his rented property. However, investigations later unveiled that the steps stood unlawfully on public land, triggering a viral uproar and damning criticism of the villa couple. Amidst mounting pressure, David and his wife, proprietors of the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park, issued a public apology, asserting the Swiss’ slip on the steps was unintentional. Yet, the events further unfolded as enraged locals and activists, numbering over 500, gathered on Yamu beach, demanding justice and public beach restoration on Sunday, reported Bangkok Post. As legal proceedings loom, Phuket’s deputy governor, Adul Chuthong, sheds light on David’s visa status and business credentials, underscoring the gravity of the case. ORIGINAL STORY: Swiss national’s visa status under review following Phuket assault The visa status of a Swiss national, embroiled in an assault case in Phuket, is set to undergo review by the immigration police, according to Deputy Phuket Governor, Adul Chuthong. The Swiss national, known as Urs Fehr or David, whose visa is due to expire on March 13, is the operator of several Thai businesses and has a registered foundation under his name, said Adul. “Immigration will review Fehr’s visa status and decide whether or not to extend the visa when it expires.” Adul added that the legality of Fehr’s businesses and foundation in Thailand are also under investigation. The scrutiny of Fehr intensified after an assault report was lodged by Thandao Chandam, a 26 year old doctor at Dibuk Hospital. The incident, which took place on February 24, involved Fehr kicking Chandam and her friend in their backs as they were stargazing on the beach, positioned in front of his rented villa. Fehr alleged that the pair were trespassing on his property, however, subsequent investigations found that the steps were built on public land. Adul stated that Fehr has been given a 30-day notice to remove the steps. Failure to comply will result in local authorities dismantling them and imposing the cost of the work on him. While Fehr has been charged with assault, the incident has sparked demands for a comprehensive investigation into his property and businesses. Assurances have been given by the deputy governor that action will be taken against individuals infringing on public land and those acting above the law. In the meantime, Phuket Governor, Sopon Suwanrat, has tasked district chiefs and security officials to initiate an investigation and report their findings. Provincial Police Region 8 Commissioner, Police Lieutenant General Surapong Thanomjit, stated on Monday that the police will delve deeper into the case, as immigration police hold the power to revoke visas of criminal offenders and deport them back to their home countries, reported Bangkok Post. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-06 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 20. A Belarusian tourist, who had got lost while on a jungle trek in the Layan area of Phuket, was found safe and sound. Phuket Tourist Police confirmed the news this morning, stating that the man emerged from the ordeal unharmed. The individual, whose name was not disclosed in the police report, arrived in Thailand on February 18. He initially spent time in Bangkok, before moving to Phuket on March 3. After spending a night at a hotel in the Nai Yang region, he shifted his base to another hotel in Layan, Cherng Talay. Inspired by the scenic beachfront, the Belarusian tourist decided to venture on a trek into the nearby jungle. Guided by a map, he anticipated a short journey. However, he soon found himself disoriented and lost amidst the dense vegetation. Fortunately, the lost tourist managed to reach out to the Tourist Police at 11.18pm. A search party, comprising local police and rescue workers from the Kusuldharm Foundation, immediately responded to the distress call. After an exhaustive search, they located the man safe and sound at 5.30am. Upon his discovery, a medical team was promptly on the scene, ready to provide necessary assistance. The man, who had spent the night in the wilderness, was found to have sustained no injuries, reported Phuket News. Authorities emphasised the availability of the Tourist Police ‘I Lert U’ app for non-Thai speakers. The app, available on Google Play and the App Store, has been instrumental in helping the officers bring lost foreign tourists to safety in Phuket. Despite 191 being the emergency hotline in Thailand, non-Thai speakers are strongly recommended to use this app. In related news, National Park officials successfully rescued three foreign tourists who became lost in the jungle in Koh Pha Ngan, Thailand. Despite the challenges of disused trails and dangerous wildlife, all tourists were found safe after a search effort. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of Phuket Tourist Police Source: The Thaiger 2024-03-05 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
