Paetongtarn fears her father will be re-arrested for violating royal defamation laws
Paetongtarn’s Puzzling Statement On Thaksin’s Lese Majeste Questioning By Thai Newsroom Reporters De facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra with his daughter/party leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra. Photo: Thai Rath PHEU THAI LEADER PAETONGTARN Shinawatra today (Feb.9) made a puzzling statement about her father/de facto party boss-cum-convict at large Thaksin Shinawatra, saying he has already been questioned by public prosecutors over lese majeste charges and is anticipated to literally return home. Paetongtarn told reporters that public prosecutors have already questioned her father, who has been currently staying at Police Hospital, on lese majeste charges over his verbal statements earlier made abroad in alleged violation of the draconian lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code. Her latest comment apparently contradicted with news reports that police attached to the Technology Crime Suppression Division and public prosecutors attached to the Office of the Attorney-General had awaited a yet-to-be-held questioning of the de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict to whom no visits have been allowed by anyone other than his family members, given privacy reasons for the privileged patient who has been staying at Police Hospital in lieu of Bangkok Remand Prison for more than five months now. Paetongtarn fears her father will be re-arrested for violating royal defamation laws
Pheu Thai leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra admitted today that she is worried that her father, Thaksin, may be arrested for violating royal defamation laws in 2015. Thaksin, currently convicted and jailed on corruption charges, could be released on parole later this month, given his age and medical condition. Thaksin has been charged with lèse majesté and an arrest warrant was issued. He is yet to be indicted, however, because he was in exile abroad when the initial charge was filed. As such, it is possible that he will be re-arrested if he is freed on parole. Pheu Thai Party dismisses corruption concerns on 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme
The Pheu Thai Party dismissed a warning by the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) concerning the government’s proposed 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme. Anusorn Iamsa-ard, a Pheu Thai list-MP, maintained that the government is open to feedback from all quarters and that the NACC’s concerns are premature as the scheme has not been implemented yet. “If the digital wallet scheme is delayed as a result of the NACC’s warnings, the agency must respond to questions from the people.” The NACC had cautioned the government about potential corruption and legal issues tied to the scheme while stating that the economy is not in a crisis yet. The digital wallet scheme is a key policy of the Pheu Thai-led government to boost the economy, aiming to give 10,000 baht (US$278) to 50 million Thai citizens. However, the scheme’s legality has been questioned as the government plans to seek a 500-billion-baht (US$13.9 billion) loan to fund it, contradicting the Pheu Thai’s election campaign promise of not resorting to loans, reported Bangkok Post. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of The Nation Thailand Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-09 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. A 73 year old man, Jamras Dokmaiwhai, has brought to light a troubling incident involving Chon Buri police, claiming officers handcuffed and assaulted him in front of his daughter after a family dispute led to a report of physical assault against him. Jamras, residing in Chon Buri Province with his daughters and wife, expressed his desire for justice after the alleged police brutality that left him with injuries. On February 5, at 9am, Jamras intended to donate a fan to a local temple event. He approached his youngest daughter’s house to ask for the fan, as she and her husband often donated to charity. However, the visit quickly turned sour when a few words led to his daughter striking him multiple times on the face. Upset and hurt, Jamras proceeded to the nearby police station to report the incident. The attending officer then accompanied him back home, where the situation escalated. According to Jamras, upon returning home in a police truck, he was instructed to wait outside while officers entered the residence. by Nattapong Westwood Photo courtesy of KhaoSod and Ch3 Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-09 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
