Flight fright: Panic-stricken passenger causes turbulence at Chiang Mai Airport
A foreign passenger reportedly experienced a panic attack while a plane was taking off from Chiang Mai International Airport last night and attempted to open the plane door, causing chaos and a delay at the airport. The situation was brought under control at around 11pm. Facebook account Watcharapon Pethsurp posted about the incident at about 9.57pm yesterday, February 7. The post included a picture of the foreign man standing on the plane. “The plane was about to take off but this passenger had a panic attack and tried to open the door. When will I arrive in Bangkok?” The problem occurred on the TG121 Chiang Mai-Bangkok Thai Airways flight. The flight was originally scheduled to depart from Chiang Mai International Airport at 9.05pm and arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport about one hour later. MGR reported that the foreign man left his seat, approached one of the flight attendants, and pushed her towards the plane door. He demanded that the flight attendant open the plane door, forcing the pilot to make an emergency stop on the runway. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ Watcharapon Pethsurp Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Khon Kaen buffet fines diner 9000 baht for uneaten food
A buffet restaurant in Khon Kaen made headlines after a customer was faced with a hefty fine of 9,100 baht for leaving an excessive amount of uneaten food. However, the situation was amicably resolved, resulting in satisfaction on both sides. Oshinei Khon Kaen, a Japanese buffet restaurant in Khon Kaen, took to Facebook to recount an incident where a group of customers ordered more food than they could consume. The four diners had taken advantage of a come four, pay for three promotion, priced at 1,150 baht per person. It was their first visit to the restaurant, and perhaps driven by hunger, they ordered a significant quantity of food through the restaurant’s automated system. Staff members confirmed the orders and reiterated the restaurant’s policy on food wastage, which includes a fine of 300 baht per 100 grammes for excessive leftovers, with the option to take the excess food home. by Samantha Rose Photo courtesy of Sanook Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Cyber woes: DOP’s PDPA breach prompts CIB intervention
A violation of the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) led the Department of Older Persons (DOP) to complain to the Cyber Investigation Bureau (CIB) yesterday. The data breach, involving the DOP’s website, raised alarm bells regarding the possible misuse of personal information. Under the directives of Social Development and Human Security Minister Varawut Silpa-archa, Raemrung Worawat, the DOP’s director-general, reported the breach to both the CIB and the Personal Information Protection Committee. The action was in response to a revelation by Resecurity, a US-based cybersecurity firm, on January 22. The startling report by Resecurity claimed that personal identifiable information (PII) of Thai citizens, found on the dark web, was leaked from public sector platforms. The DOP website was among those compromised in the data leak, which occurred in January. The report exposed the magnitude of the data leak, disclosing that around 19,718,687 records of personal data, encompassing names, addresses, ID numbers, as well as images of ID cards and photos of individuals with their IDs were compromised. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of iStock Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Dinosaur fossils, estimated to be between 100 million to 110 million years old, have been unearthed in the Nam Phong district of Khon Kaen. The fossils, thought to be from the sauropod and spinosaurid species, were discovered by a team from the Department of Mineral Resources, led by Sasa-On Khansubha, a palaeontologist from the Sirindhorn Dinosaur Museum. The initial investigation began when a local, Chaowalit Boonchai, posted about a fossil he found on his Facebook page. He had also informed the authorities about his discovery. The initial survey began on January 31, and since then, a fence has been erected around the fossil sites in the Mueang Wan district to prevent any potential damage from the locals. by Puntid Tantivangphaisal Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thai cop sparks debate for participating Miss Thailand 2024
A well-known Thai policewoman sparked a debate on Thai social media after participating in the Miss Thailand 2024 beauty pageant. Netizens directed their inquiries towards the Royal Thai Police (RTP), asking about the potential impact of her crown-chasing adventure when on police duty. Before starting her career in the police force, Police Captain Cat, also known as Atitiya “Cat” Benjapak, was a famous singer for the GoldMaster Media record label. She is also known among beauty pageant participants as she scooped several awards, including Miss Thailand Chon Buri 2023, Miss Grand Si Sa Ket 2018, Miss Polo Asia 2019, and Miss Tourism of the Globe 2021. In 2020, Cat joined the police force, initially serving in the Police Secretary Office, where her responsibilities primarily involved overseeing paperwork and ceremonies within the RTP. However, last year, Cat came under scrutiny for her swift ascent from police lance corporal to police captain in just three years. This promotion raised eyebrows, as it takes most police officers a lifetime to achieve such a rank. The 27 year old policeman faced another wave of criticism from Thai netizens yesterday, February 7, after being revealed as one of 30 Miss Thailand 2024 candidates. Cat and other candidates presented themselves to the media for the first time at a press conference. Cat’s participation in the competition surprised beauty pageant fans as she recently joined a farewell ceremony as the winner of Miss Thailand Chon Buri 2023. This also sparked a controversy among netizens about Cat’s ability to balance her police duties with her involvement in beauty pageants, singing performances, and other entertainment industry works. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ แคท อาทิติยา Full story: The Thaiger 2024-02-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. PM Srettha Accepts NACC Recommendations on 10,000-Baht Stipend
BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has acknowledged the suggestions of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) regarding the government’s policy to provide a 10,000-baht stipend through the digital wallet system. The NACC on Wednesday warned that the program could violate the constitution and laws, potentially leading to a long-term public debt burden, and suggested focusing on structural economic improvements instead. It also raised concerns over corruption stemming from the massive initiative. In response, the Premier stated that a sub-committee will likely be established to prevent the potential graft. He confirmed that careful consideration is already a priority and that the program will have clear mechanisms that can be audited at every step. Regarding the NACC’s suggestion to use the annual budget over enacting a new borrowing act, the Prime Minister said the matter needed to be discussed to determine the best approach. On the NACC’s recommendation to adjust the criteria to distribute money specifically to vulnerable groups or low-income individuals, the Prime Minister mentioned that it is the government's responsibility to determine who is eligible for the program. As for whether the NACC’s opinion would cause the government to change its plan for the much-awaited policy or not, the Prime Minister stated that opinions from all sides must be reconsidered. The next meeting of the program’s committee is expected to be early next week. by Naark Rojanasuvan Source: NNT 2024-02-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
