  2. Thai airlines plan to explain the accusations of raising ticket prices amid higher jet fuel costs. The Airlines Association of Thailand (AAT) announced it will host a seminar to clarify airfare structures and CAAT price regulations following consumer complaints. Nok Air CEO Wutthiphum Jurangkool stated that price increases mainly occurred during extended holidays due to high demand, impacting last-minute bookings. The 42 year old clarified that airlines adjusted fares in response to rising operational costs, especially jet fuel expenses, rather than excessively raising average prices for extra profit. Wutthiphum mentioned the rising jet fuel cost, hitting US$119 (4,232 baht) per barrel, exceeding IATA’s 2023 estimate of US$98.5 per barrel. He highlighted airlines’ struggles during the low-demand season, making it difficult to cover these higher costs without incurring losses on each flight. by Alex Morgan Photo Courtesy of InThailand.Travel Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/business/thai-airlines-respond-to-ticket-price-hike-accusations-amid-rising-fuel-costs -- The Thaiger 2023-09-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 5. Newly appointed Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit yesterday committed to enhancing Thailand’s logistics network, focusing primarily on the country’s railway and maritime transport infrastructure. In his first press briefing, Suriya stated that strategic plans are underway and will be made public in the coming week. Highlighting the importance of the logistics sector, which contributes nearly 15% to Thailand’s gross domestic product (GDP), Suriya noted that only a mere 2% is generated by rail and maritime transport. He emphasized the need for Thailand’s transportation development to increase its competitive edge. Suriya reassured that the double-track upgrades throughout the country’s rail network would be completed as scheduled. He predicts this will boost ridership numbers and stimulate further investment in the rail infrastructure. A key initiative for the ministry is the double-track upgrade between Khon Kaen and Nong Khai, a project that will require an investment of 29.7 billion baht (US$835 million) from the government. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of Thai PBS Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/new-thai-transport-minister-prioritises-rail-and-maritime-infrastructure-boost -- The Thaiger 2023-09-08 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 8. The Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand (EVAT) expects greater manufacturer interest in Thailand’s EV sector. The latest incentive package might be less appealing than earlier ones. Current incentives consist of tax reductions and subsidies for car producers and importers. These incentives aim to boost EV production and consumption from 2022 to 2023. The incentives range from 70,000 to 150,000 baht per unit. Manufacturers commit to constructing EV production facilities in Thailand. The upcoming package from the Srettha Thavisin administration is under scrutiny by EV manufacturers. Some foreign manufacturers might delay their expansion in Thailand until they comprehend the new policy’s implications. However, many have expressed interest in investing in Thailand’s EV sector, according to Krisda Utamote, President of EVAT. “We expect 1-2 new EV investors, especially from China, to seek investment opportunities in Thailand.” by Alex Morgan Photo courtesy of Thailand Business News. 22. An online upload showcasing ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra in casual attire with his young granddaughter has recently ignited debates. The accompanying text hinted that Thaksin, presently under custody and being treated at the Royal Thai Police medical facility, was back at his residence in robust health, reported Sanook. However, Panthongtae Shinawatra, Thaksin's son, quickly dispelled these rumors by sharing the same image on Twitter, labeling it as "fake news." He pointed out that the photo was old, previously posted on Instagram by his sister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, on April 10, 2022. The event depicted in the image took place abroad. Panthongtae further commented, "Neither the Royal Thai Police Hospital nor the Department of Corrections should have to explain this. But Prasit [the Facebook user who shared the image] better prepare to explain his intentions to the investigators." This indicates the family's intention to take legal action against those spreading false information. The incident has spurred widespread support from netizens, who believe that legal action will deter the spread of fake news in the community.
