Tourism safety concerns: Thai Government urged to reassure China
The Thai administration is being prodded to collaborate with Beijing prior to implementing a visa-exemption scheme for Chinese tourists, as the country’s image suffers due to its portrayal as a transit hub for fraudulent activities in recent Chinese media, hindering tourism safety. A Chinese film titled ‘No More Bets’, which revolves around scammer networks in Southeast Asia, grossed a whopping US$505 million in its initial five weeks. The thriller topped China’s box office in August, simultaneously souring Chinese sentiment towards travelling to Southeast Asia, according to Surawat Akaraworamat, vice-president of the Tourism Council of Thailand. Since March, the region has been witnessing a slump in Chinese tourists, triggered by an incident where Chinese visitors were abducted in Thailand and transported to a neighbouring country. This sentiment was exacerbated by numerous Chinese online content creators highlighting the risks associated with travelling in Thailand, adversely impacting tourism safety in the country. by Alex Morgan Photo: Yang Wanli/China Daily Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/business/thai-government-urged-to-reassure-china-amid-tourism-safety-concerns -- The Thaiger 2023-09-06 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Assessing the impact of a strengthening US Dollar on Srettha’s administration
In the realm of global finance, exchange rates serve as a crucial indicator of economic stability and prospects. The current juncture witnesses the Thai economy confronting a notable shift in the strength of the US dollar (USD) against the Thai baht (THB), a development driven by escalating interest rates in the United States. Impact The foundation of a strengthening USD lies within the complex interplay of global financial variables, with the adjustment of interest rates by the US Federal Reserve emerging as a defining factor. Heightened interest rates in the US serve as a magnet for international investors in pursuit of enhanced yields, thereby triggering an increased demand for the USD. Consequently, the USD appreciates relative to other currencies, presenting intricate economic consequences. The dollar’s ascent bears direct implications for Thailand’s export sector, traditionally a cornerstone of its economy. A stronger USD and a weaker baht means that local manufacturers may have to spend more acquiring needed resources within their supply chain. Thai exports could then become more expensive for international consumers, dampening the demand for locally produced goods. Inversely, a weak baht compared to the US dollar can be favorable for tourism in Thailand due to its impact on the purchasing power of foreign visitors. Cyanide murder mastermind loses defamation case
The Criminal Court has dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by Sararat Rangsivuthaphan, known as Am, the alleged mastermind behind several murder cases involving cyanide, against Rapee Chumnanruen, who coordinated on behalf of the victims. The court’s decision came after evidence was presented proving Rapee’s statements made during a television interview about Am’s deception of authorities were true. Am’s lawyer, Thanicha Eaksuwan, or Lawyer Pach, stated prior to the court hearing that if the case was dismissed, they would appeal. However, if the court accepted the case and issued an order, and Rapee failed to appear for the hearing, she would serve a court order to his residence. She was confident in her evidence against Rapee, who admitted that the person in the clip was indeed him. Lawyer Pach revealed that it was now in the stage of determining whether the actions constituted an offence or not. This would be another stage where the court would first have to accept the charges for further consideration. by Neill Fronde TOP Photo courtesy of Bangkok Post Full story: https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime/cyanide-murder-mastermind-loses-defamation-case-lawyer-announces-appeal-with-new-evidence -- The Thaiger 2023-09-06 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
