Thaksin suffered a dangerous hypertensive crisis before being transferred by prison authorities by Carla Boonkong & Pranee O' Connor Outgoing Minister of Justice Wissanu Krea-ngam explained to reporters on Friday that he ‘sympathised’ with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who suffered a hypertensive crisis in the medical centre of Bangkok Remand Prison late on Tuesday night necessitating his removal to Police General Hospital. 2. Outgoing Minister of Justice Wissanu Krea-ngam explained to reporters on Friday that he ‘sympathised’ with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra who suffered a hypertensive crisis in the medical centre of Bangkok Remand Prison late on Tuesday night necessitating his removal to Police General Hospital. Mr Wissanu also emphasised that any potential Royal pardon would deal with all of Mr Thaksin’s offences. He was speaking as the top physician at the Police General Hospital in Bangkok, revealed ongoing concerns for Mr Thaksin’s health and the hospital’s focus on his treatment, not politics or security. The onerous responsibility placed on authorities due to real underlying health problems, the advanced age of Mr Thaksin at 74 and his unique position as a politically important figure, means that officials must err on the side of caution and make sure that the country’s most famous prison inmate is afforded the best possible medical care. This is a growing headache as political controversy over Mr Thaksin’s status grows. On Friday, outgoing Minister of Justice Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam defended the decision by doctors at Bangkok Remand Prison in the early hours of Wednesday morning to transfer former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to the Police General Hospital in the capital for specialist care as he confirmed that Thaksin suffered a hypertensive crisis with dangerously elevated blood pressure levels. The minister was speaking as the top Police General Hospital physician issued a statement stating that Thaksin’s blood pressure was now stable but that scans and tests on his lungs indicated the need for further care and treatment. by Carla Boonkong & Pranee O' Connor Full story: https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/08/26/thaksin-suffered-risky-hypertensive-crisis-before-prison-transfer/ -- Thai Examiner 2023-08-28 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 4. The Cannabis Future Network in Thailand is gathering signatures for a petition, aiming to accumulate 10,000 names to urge parliament to continue its reading of the Cannabis-Hemp Act. This legislation, if passed, would permit citizens to cultivate marijuana at home and prohibit the importation of cannabis products for half a decade. Yesterday, Prasitchai Nunual, the head of the network, stated that the act, originally consisting of 95 sections, only reached Section 17 in parliament’s reading due to a shift in government. This section permits individuals to cultivate cannabis plants domestically. Simultaneously, the Cannabis-Hemp Act seeks to impose a five-year ban on cannabis importation, fostering a domestic production and consumption environment. The Cannabis Future Network, liaising with the Thai populace, has extensively researched the potential benefits of cannabis, referencing its historical use in traditional medicine. by Neill Fronde The Cannabis Future Network is petitioning parliament to continue its reading of the Cannabis-Hemp Act. 12. THE POPULARITY RATING OF the Pheu Thai has exponentially declined due to a surprise about-face conducted by the post-election government’s core party under de facto boss Thaksin Shinawatra, according to the latest opinion poll of Sripatum University. The Sripatum Poll, recently conducted among a total of 1,253 constituents from all walks of life in all regions of the country, has found the Pheu Thai popularity rating drop to only 10%, compared to the Move Forward’s 49%. That was primarily attributed to post-election developments in which Thaksin’s camp had taken a surprise u-turn from their original coalition partners headed by the Move Forward to bring other parties which had earlier stayed on the other end of the country’s political spectrum into the Pheu Thai-led bandwagon, according to the Sripatum Poll. 15. New PM says he will extend tourist visas for “targeted countries” By Peter Roche PHOTO: PM Srettha Thavisin visits Phuket - Instagram Thailand’s new prime minister Srettha Thavisin says his new government will extend tourist visas for up to 90 days. During a visit to Phuket and Phang Nga on Friday and Saturday, the newly installed PM spoke to tourism stakeholders in the region and commented that the government will extend the length of tourist visas to up to 90 days for “targeted countries”. His comments were quoted in the Bangkok Post. Currently arrivals from many western countries get a visa waiver which means they can arrive without any visa or paperwork and proceed straight to immigration where they get an entry stamp, usually for 30 days, extendable for another 30 days. Other countries, including China for example, only receive 15 days with either a pre-approved visa or a visa-on-arrival. 22. Thai AirAsia, a leading low-cost airline, has set a goal to command 40% of the passenger market share domestically by the close of 2023. This comes as the airline intends to introduce two additional routes in Japan in the upcoming year. In a revealing disclosure, Santisuk Klongchaiya, the Chief Executive of Thai AirAsia, mentioned that the airline’s market share in the first half of the current year was 37%, a noticeable increase from the 33% recorded prior to the pandemic. He attributed this growth to the impressive performance of domestic routes, with an average load factor of 94% on 32 routes leading to 21 provinces and eight cross-regional routes. The Trade Competition Commission has been in conversation with multiple low-cost carriers in Thailand regarding airfares. Santisuk confirmed that the airline has already provided an explanation of its price structure to the regulatory body. Additionally, he pointed out that the current ticket prices are regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), and Thai AirAsia has not violated any of CAAT’s pricing rules. In the domestic market, Thai AirAsia is the exclusive operator on several routes, including Ranong, Chumphon, Loei, and Hua Hin-Chiang Mai. While current airfares are 10-20% higher than in 2019, Santisuk justified this by pointing out the discrepancy between supply and passenger demand, particularly in relation to the number of aircraft. by Alex Morgan Image by Laude Creator from LC Photographer Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/business/thai-airasia-targets-40-domestic-market-share-by-2023-plans-japan-expansion -- Thaiger 2023-08-26 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
