Dr Pakpilai Thavisin: From anti-aging pioneer to wife of Thailand’s new PM
Dr Pakpilai Thavisin is feeling heat from the media spotlight after her husband Srettha Thavisin became Thailand’s 30th prime minister. But this is far from her first taste of fame. With her high-flying career and fashionable dress sense, Pakpilai has been a favorite subject of gossip columns for years. She has also aired her views in media interviews. Last year, she ranked among the five winners of Hello! Magazine’s honorary awards. The accolade was granted in recognition of her significant contributions to Thailand’s beauty and healthcare industry. Brainy beauty Pakpilai was born in 1961 to Pol Lt-General Pon Paladraksa and his wife Udomsi. Her maternal grandfather was Phra Ram-indra, who rose to become chief of the Royal Thai Police. Though having grown up in Bangkok’s busy Sukhumvit area, Pakpilai recalled running in a paddy field, chasing buffaloes, and shopping at a small local market by the Saen Saeb Canal during her childhood. She said she also spent her free time helping with house chores and cooking. Does crashing birthrate and aging society spell doom for Thailand?
The median age in Thailand currently stands at 40 years and two months, far older than the world average of 30 years and five months. This startling fact suggests that if Thailand fails to take action now, it could rapidly be overwhelmed by problems related to its aging society. Thailand’s population is on course to shrink by at least 50% by 2100, according to the Social Development and Human Security Ministry. “I believe Thai governments both past and present have been aware of this fact. But I don’t know if the [incoming] government will introduce clear-cut or radical policies to address this situation,” said Professor Teera Sindecharak, who lectures at Thammasat University’s Sociology and Anthropology Faculty. Economic and social impacts Teera warns that the ongoing demographic trend could mean that infrastructure designed to serve huge numbers of people will soon be left half-empty. And businesses may find it difficult to attract enough customers or staff to continue operating. Thailand braces for heavy rainfall: Citizens and mariners urged to exercise caution
The Thai Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rainfall across various regions of the country, brought about by low atmospheric pressure near the Vietnamese upper shore and the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Thailand. Thailand continues to experience thunderstorms, with heavy rain in certain parts of the northeast, and central regions, including Bangkok and its vicinity. Citizens in the upper northeastern region are advised to be cautious of heavy and accumulated rainfall, potentially leading to flooding. Mariners in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand are advised to navigate with caution due to waves of approximately one metre in height. In areas experiencing thunderstorms, wave height may increase to between one and two metres. Mariners are advised to avoid navigating in areas experiencing thunderstorms. In the northern region, 60% of the area will experience thunderstorms, particularly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun provinces. The lowest temperature will be between 24-26 degrees Celsius, while the highest will be between 32-35 degrees Celsius. Winds will be from the southwest at speeds of 10-20 kilometres per hour. by Samantha Rose Image by Leung Cho Pan Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thailand-braces-for-heavy-rainfall-citizens-and-mariners-urged-to-exercise-caution -- Thaiger 2023-08-26 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thaksin Showing Concerning Symptoms, Doctor Reveals Prominent physician, Pol. Lt. Col. Doctor Reveals Concerning Symptoms in Thaksin's Condition
A physician who serves as the Chief Medical Officer at the Police Hospital, has shared insights following his assessment of the health condition of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The examination, conducted on August 23, included electrocardiogram tests administered through a mobile EKG machine. Additionally, tests focusing on lung and heart health unveiled persistent concerns, reported INN. Notably, Thaksin's blood pressure has maintained stability, allowing for coherent communication. The comprehensive findings were duly reported to the Department of Medical Services. The hospitalization of Thaksin traces back to his partial ICU stay during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It's crucial to note that this medical intervention was initiated not at his request but rather at the urgent behest of the Royal Medical Services. Consequently, the attending physician has expressed unease about the circumstances. It's emphasized that medical treatments and the divulgence of patient data adhere to principles of patient consent and medical ethics. Turning attention to the recent air conditioning matter, repairs have been successfully completed, ensuring comfort for all patients. Consideration of relocating Thaksin to a private medical facility hinges upon the efficacy of the ongoing treatment. Worth mentioning is the fact that the Police Hospital possesses the capability to provide comprehensive care without necessitating a transfer. It's emphasized that political and security considerations fall beyond the purview of the hospital. Remarkably, the Police Hospital has never instigated patient examinations and maintains a steadfast commitment to upholding patient rights. -- ASEAN NOW 2023-08-26 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
