  3. MOVE FORWARD LEADER Pita Limjaroenrat will no longer be named prime minister, according to Pheu Thai secretary-general Prasert Chanthararuangthong. Though Pita might possibly be given a second chance by court to be named and voted prime minister some time next month, the Pheu Thai as head of the eight coalition partners will no longer name him so again, Prasert commented today (July 26). In lieu of the Move Forward leader who has already failed to get adequate support from among non-coalition MPs and senators earlier this month and is currently suspended by court from performing as MP, one of a trio of Pheu Thai candidates for prime minister will be named and voted some time next month. Real estate tycoon Srettha Thavisin viewed as personally close to deposed prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra is currently known as the No.1 Pheu Thai contender for prime minister. It remains to be seen whether the Pheu Thai under de facto party boss/deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will eventually turn away from the eight coalition partners to the other side which includes the Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, the Palang Pracharath headed by Prawit Wongsuwan and the Ruam Thai Sang Chart under de facto party boss/caretaker prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, among others. (Photo by Alex OGLE / AFP) Three leaders of Thailand’s private sector are urging the speedy formation of a new government, insisting that the country, particularly the national economy, cannot afford to wait up to ten months. Kriangkrai Thiennukul, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries, said today (Wednesday) that the private sector had set August as the acceptable deadline for a new government to be formed and to begin implementing policies to stimulate the economy. Failing that, the economy will suffer and production costs will increase. He admitted that he cannot assess the extent of the damage to the economy, if the formation of the new government is further delayed by up to 10 months as proposed by some parties. 12. Speaking today (Wednesday), House Speaker Wan Mohamad Noor Matha has defended his order to cancel the parliamentary sitting tomorrow, to select the prime minister, insisting that he has to wait for a ruling from the Constitutional Court on whether it will consider the petition from the ombudsman. The ombudsman asked the Constitutional Court to consider a petition filed by two academics, challenging the constitutionality of parliament’s decision, by a majority vote on July 19th, to reject the renomination of Move Forward party leader Pita Limjaroenrat as prime ministerial candidate. Wan said he decided to cancel the sitting because he wants to avoid potentially serious consequences, which may befall the candidate were they to be selected by parliament. 16. Move Forward Party (MFP) Rakchanok Srinork yesterday revealed she received death threats from an employee of former Pheu Thai Party MP Wanchalerm Ubumrung. The Bang Born district of Bangkok MP took her first steps on the political ladder in May’s General Election. Her victory was a surprise because the area was previously a safe Pheu Thai Party seat under Wanchalerm. Voters stated that her close relationship with the area’s residents played a crucial role in securing her victory. During the election campaign, Rakchanok’s unique approach to connecting with voters gained attention on Thai social media. She and her team engaged with voters in different residential areas and promoted MFP policies on pushbikes. Despite the electoral defeat, Wanchalerm displayed good sportsmanship by congratulating Rakchanok. Rakchanok reciprocated the gesture, expressing her respect for him as a senior politician. Wanchalerm continued his community engagements even though he lost his Parliamentary seat. However, not all Pheu Thai Party supporters took the defeat gracefully. Recently, a Thai man claiming to be an employee of Wanchalerm shared a picture on Facebook, showing Rakchanok lying on her back during a meeting in Parliament on her phone. In the caption, he accused her of disrespecting Parliamentary proceedings. by Petch Petpailin Photo via Facebook/ รักชนก ศรีนอก - Rukchanok Srinork and Wan Ubumrung. 23. The Move Forward Party (MFP) is determined to push for a reconsideration of Pita Limjaroenrat’s renomination as a prime ministerial candidate, urging the National Assembly to handle the matter internally without involving the Constitution Court. The scheduled Parliament meeting for prime minister (PM) selection, initially set for July 27, took an unexpected turn when Parliament President Wan Muhamad Nor Matha, also known as Wan Nor, suddenly cancelled it. This decision came in response to a complaint filed with the Constitution Court by the Ombudsman regarding the rejection of Pita’s candidacy. The basis for Parliament’s rejection of Pita was Article Number 41 of the Regulations of the Parliamentary Assembly (2020). This article states that a previously rejected motion, such as Pita’s initial nomination, cannot be reintroduced. The Ombudsman’s intervention followed suit. In reaction to these developments, the MFP-aligned party, Pheu Thai Party, also announced the cancellation of the eight aligned parties. They cited the lack of significant progress on tasks assigned to them by the coalition. by Petch Petpailin Photo by Sakchai Lalit via AP Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/mfp-seeks-reconsideration-of-pitas-prime-ministerial-candidacy -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-26 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
