  1. A Thai woman working illegally in South Korea has tragically become one of the victims of the devastating flash floods, which have claimed the lives of at least 37 people and left nine others missing. As 9,000 residents grapple with the aftermath of this natural disaster in the East Asian nation, the extent of the destruction is becoming apparent. According to Thai PBS, heavy rainfall in South Korea triggered floods and landslides in various parts of the country, submerging many areas under water. Nearly 50,000 acres of agricultural land have been flooded, and over 560,000 livestock have been affected. The impact on public infrastructure and private properties has been catastrophic. The Ministry of Interior and Safety of South Korea reported that the floods have so far claimed the lives of at least 37 victims, with nine individuals still missing. As a result, 9,000 residents have been forced to evacuate their homes in search of safer shelter. The Royal Thai Embassy in Seoul revealed that a Thai woman named Potchamon fell victim to the flash flood. The 33 year old tragically lost her life at her residence in the North Gyeongsang province, where she worked alongside her husband. The rescue team managed to recover her body. by Petch Petpailin Photo by Kim Ju-hyung/Yonhap via AP Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thai-woman-swept-away-in-south-korean-floods -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-17 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 3. The Move Forward Party has shifted its focus to the amendment of Section 272 of the constitution, to exclude senators from the prime minister voting process, after leader of the party, Pita Limjaroenrat, failed to become Thailand’s 30th Prime Minister on Thursday. Section 272 empowers the 250 senators to join the 500 members of the House of Representatives to vote for prime minister between 2019 and 2023. In the first bicameral vote in parliament, 159 senators abstained. It is, therefore, in Move Forward’s interest to remove senators from voting for prime minister. Move Forward MP Parit Wacharasindhu said that the party will keep trying. “There will, of course, be constant conversation with the 7 other coalition parties. As the Move Forward Party’s secretary-general said, we will continue to fight and present new alternatives and solutions to ensure that we get out of this deadlock”. Thailand Expects to Welcome 1.6 Million Indians This Year by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Indian tourists are streaming into Southeast Asia, cementing the world’s most populous country’s position as a key growth market for the travel and tourism sector. 6. BANGKOK (NNT) - Indian tourists are streaming into Southeast Asia, cementing the world’s most populous country’s position as a key growth market for the travel and tourism sector. From airlines like IndiGo and Thai Airways to hospitality chains offering thousands of rooms, executives and analysts say companies are tapping into India’s burgeoning middle-class and growing spending power. A long-term increase in Indian tourists would lead to a recalibration of airline capacity, hospitality offerings and tourism operators - early signs of which are underway, according to industry members. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) said in a May report that India could emerge as the next China "in terms of outbound tourism growth" over the next decade, though connectivity would be constrained by fewer airports there. In Thailand, the number of Indian tourists - though fewer than Chinese in absolute terms - is only about 14% lower than it was in 2019. In 2019, Chinese visitors spent about US$197 a day in Thailand and Indians spent about $180, with both visiting for about a week, according to Thai government data. Tanes Petsuwan, Deputy Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said 1.6 million Indians are expected to visit the kingdom this year. by Paul Rujopakarn Source: https://thainews.prd.go.th/en/news/detail/TCATG230717095548061 -- © Copyright NNT 2023-07-17 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 8. Considering letting go of your reliable car in Thailand? Maybe you’ve got your eyes on a newer model, or perhaps you’re seeking a quick way to boost your cash flow. Or, just maybe, it’s nearing time for you to bid goodbye to the exquisite sandy shores and bustling city streets of Thailand. Whatever the reason that has you mulling over a sale, let us walk you through the ins and outs of selling your car in Thailand. Getting your car ready for sale PHOTO: Freepik Start by giving your car a neat clean-up. It makes practical sense to present your vehicle in its best attire – clean and properly maintained. Keep in mind a visually pleasing vehicle can help in getting better offers. Let’s be honest; no one wishes to buy a car that looks like it has been through some tough times. Follow this up with a thorough mechanical check-up. It’s crucial your car works as good as it looks. Potential buyers may not be experts under the hood, but no one wants to invest in a car that may break down halfway on the road. So getting a full service, no matter how your vehicle feels, is a wise move. If you want to increase the value of your car, consider enhancing your car with additional features or accessories. Whether it’s adding on a sunroof, switching to new wheels, or upgrading to a new sound system, these improvements could catch the eye of potential buyers and allow you to command a higher price for your vehicle. Making sure you have a car valuation report PHOTO: By Tim Mossholder via Unsplash Speaking about value, it’s crucial to consider your car’s worth and how to best convey this to potential buyers. First off, acquire a car valuation report. This crucial document throws a spotlight on details such as your car’s make, model, age, mileage, and condition. Additionally, it provides an estimated market value of your car, laying down the groundwork for a fair negotiation. However, don’t just stop at the valuation report. To sweeten the deal further, compile all necessary documents relating to your car’s history and recent maintenance records. This step speaks volumes about your meticulous care for the vehicle, encouraging potential buyers to pitch a higher offer for a car that has clearly been lovingly maintained. The combination of well-documented car history and a comprehensive valuation report could be the winning ticket in your car-selling venture. by Cita Catellya TOP PHOTO: By jcomp via Feepik Full story: https://thethaiger.com/guides/automotive/how-to-sell-your-car-in-thailand -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-17 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 13. Opinion: Thailand is at a crossroads because of unelected, unaccountable bodies By Volthai We stand at a pivotal juncture in our political journey. 14. We stand at a pivotal juncture in our political journey. The triumph of the Move Forward party, a manifestation of our collective will, finds itself precariously on the brink of being undone. It’s an audacious subversion by unelected bodies that seem to consider Thailand their personal chessboard. Our Senate, our Election Commission, and our Constitutional Court have audaciously sought to stifle our democratic voice. These institutions, once meant to serve us, now contemptuously pull at the strings of our governance like unaccountable puppeteers. We must remember the potent words of Orwell, “In a time of deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” So, let us acknowledge our truth and summon the courage to confront those who so blatantly flout the will of the people. It is high time we dismantle these unaccountable bodies and re-establish our claim over our land. If they will not play by the rules, perhaps it is time we stop trying to as well.
