DSI Cracks Down: US National among Several Arrested in Thailand
In a significant operation, the Thai Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has successfully cracked three significant cases. Firstly, a 30-year-old US national identified as "Mr. Mayes" was apprehended in Phuket. He had fled to Thailand after allegedly abusing a nine-year-old child overseas. Picture: Thai Rath The second case involves the apprehension of two suspects, fictitiously named "Suga" and "Nita We," implicated in the illegal smuggling of undocumented migrant workers. The pair had been evading arrest warrants in Thong Pha Phum and Lang Suan provinces. Lastly, the DSI, in collaboration with Mukdahan and Tak immigration authorities, detained six suspects related to an underground network smuggling Chinese nationals into Thailand. Picture: Thai Rath Among the detainees was a Thai national named "Thawatchai," and five Chinese individuals named "Li Chao," "Zhang Wuchang," "Li Un Yang," "Chu Chan," and "Huang." Graphic: Thai Rath These arrests are a significant win in the ongoing effort to eradicate illicit activities and ensure public safety. Thammasat University has been called upon to take action against a declaration by its Rangsit campus student council, which is full of expletives and hate speech. The Thammasat University Student Council (TUSC)’s Rangsit campus recently published criticism concerning Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s failure to secure enough parliamentary votes to support his premiership candidacy. The TUSC blamed the failure on the senators, who it described as “rubbish”, who refused to vote in favour of Pita or abstained. The last two paragraphs were so riddled with expletives and hate speech that all media outlets covering the story have had to censor the contents. Senator threatens online critics with defamation lawsuit after ‘cancel’ campaign
A senator has accused 2 netizens of “bullying” him online and threatened them with a defamation lawsuit. The move follows last Thursday’s parliamentary vote, in which the Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat failed in his PM bid. Out of 249 senators, only 13 voted for Pita, with 34 voting against him and 159 abstained. There were 43 senators who didn’t even show up. So some younger, online-savvy supporters of the 8-party coalition, including Move Forward, have turned their attention to the Senators and targeting them online. Angry MFP supporters have been venting their frustration online, using the hashtag #senatorsbusiness to call for a boycott of businesses owned by senators who voted against Pita, abstained, or failed to show. #senatemistresses was also trending with angry netizens deciding to ‘out’ some of the Senators and their extra-marital affairs. Thai woman swept away in South Korean floods
Thai Woman Among Fatalities in Severe South Korean Floods by Paul Rujopakarn BANGKOK (NNT) - Flooding and landslides, caused by heavy monsoon rainfall in South Korea, have reportedly killed a Thai woman in Gyeongsangbuk-do, located over 200 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The woman was one of at least 39 reported fatalities caused by the recent severe weather. The Thai embassy in Seoul took to Facebook to issue a warning to Thai citizens, urging them to exercise caution and to be mindful of the potential risks of flash flooding and landslides in various areas over the next 1-2 weeks. The embassy has contacted the deceased woman’s Thai husband and her employer to facilitate the repatriation of her remains back to Thailand. According to reports, rescue workers are facing significant challenges in reaching more than 10 vehicles and an unknown number of individuals trapped in a 430-meter underground tunnel in Cheongju, North Chungcheong province. The tunnel became inundated on July 15 when floodwaters rushed in too quickly for the vehicles inside to escape. The police have received reports of 11 individuals believed to still be inside the tunnel, but the official toll remains uncertain due to the uncertainty surrounding the number of occupants in each car. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, currently on an overseas trip, convened an emergency meeting with his advisors to discuss the government’s response to the disaster. He has instructed Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to mobilize all available resources in order to minimize further casualties.
