Thai dentist saves patient’s life discovering lethal blood condition pre-tooth extraction
A Thai dentist recently shared a patient’s near-fatal experience on Facebook after spotting abnormal blood spots on the patient’s arm before a scheduled tooth extraction. The patient was subsequently diagnosed with thrombocytopenia, a disruption in blood coagulation that can lead to uncontrolled bleeding that could potentially be lethal if not promptly treated. Shared on the Facebook page of Doctor Kluay, the patient’s unusual case served as a grave warning for potential hazards related to underlying medical conditions. The dentist noticed several unordinary blood spots on the patient’s arm before extracting a tooth, compelling the patient to take a blood test. The results confirmed a condition known as thrombocytopenia, commonly known as low platelet count, which can cause excessive bleeding, posing severe risks to life, reported Sanook. Doctor Kluay said… “Abnormal blood spots are potentially life-threatening. Consider this case as an example. The patient came to have a tooth extracted. But the dentist observing abnormal blood spots over the patient’s arm and body ordered a blood test. The results showed thrombocytopenia (medical term), which can be perilous. “If a dentist or surgeon doesn’t notice this condition before conducting a procedure that involves significant blood loss, such as tooth extraction, tooth surgery, or plaque removal, it can lead to a fatal situation. A low platelet count creates a situation where the blood cannot effectively clot, potentially leading to unstoppable bleeding. This could be due to underlying blood diseases, particular cancer types, immunity disorders in the patient, or certain anticoagulant medications.” by Samantha Rose Picture courtesy of Yossapol Chenwithaya Facebook #news Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thai-dentist-saves-patients-life-discovering-lethal-blood-condition-pre-tooth-extraction -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thai industries adjust strategies amid export downturn, eyes new markets
A recent downturn in exports has provoked 25 industry sectors to rethink their production strategies, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has revealed. Key industries affected and readjusting include steel, machinery, construction materials and furniture, all of which significantly cater to the markets in Asia, the European Union and the United States. The FTI recently unveiled the results of a survey involving 201 company executives and FTI members. The findings showed that of total exports, more than a third (36.2%) were dispatched to Asian markets outside of ASEAN. This was followed by ASEAN (27.6%), the EU (12.4%), and the US (11.4%). Kriengkrai Thiennukul, the FTI Chairman, said… “The companies are shifting gears in response; some are limiting production while others are reducing work shifts and overtime.” This strategic shift is linked to a decline in production capacity across these 25 sectors, prompted by reduced demand for overseas goods. by Alex Morgan Aerial view of cargo ship and cargo container in harbor. Thai tourism surge: 25 million visitors forecasted, boosting economy
In a recent announcement, the kingdom is on track to welcome a staggering 25 million tourists by the year end, offering a much-needed booster to the economy. This follows a significant surge in Thai tourism, exceeding 12 million arrivals recorded late last month, as relayed by deputy government spokeswoman Traisuree Taisaranakul. Between January and June 25 of this year, the kingdom saw a record-breaking 12.46 million tourists, marking a phenomenal increase of 539% over the same period in the previous year. The bulk of these visitors hailed from Malaysia – totalling 1.9 million. China followed with 1.3 million tourists, then Russia, South Korea, and India with 784,428; 741,909; and 732,523 visitors respectively. This unprecedented surge in the number of tourists matches up with the rise in airport usage reported by the Airports of Thailand starting from October of the previous year – the beginning of their fiscal year. The six busiest airports during the October to May period include Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phuket and Hat Yai- collectively welcoming an impressive 34.3 million, marking a staggering 635% growth year on year. The airports recorded handling of 202,700 flights – both international and domestic, a substantial 175% leap from the number reported in the same time frame the previous year. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of tatnews.org #news Full story: https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/economy/thai-tourism-boom-25-million-visitors-forecasted-boosting-economy-considerably -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Thai healthcare crisis: Overworked medics spark reform debate as state hospitals struggle
In a stark representation of the nationwide Thai healthcare concern regarding overburdened medical staff in Thailand’s public hospitals, a doctor-turned-actress recently utilised her social media platform to highlight her struggle with the strenuous work environment. Ultimately, she found the situation so unmanageable that she felt compelled to leave her public service role. Amidst this, the National Public Health Ministry faces the visceral challenge of curating an equitable and fosterable working environment for medical staff, while concurrently upholding the highest standards of medical care in public hospitals in the Thai healthcare industry. Deputy director at the Health Systems Research Institute, Jaruayporn Srisasalux, shed light on the issue, labelling the unfair balance as a “deep-seated ache for the public health system”. She identified a generational shift, with young doctors now prioritising work-life balance. Given the choice, they favour the transition to an establishment that caters to these interests. The issue of fair compensation in Thai healthcare was also highlighted. State-owned public hospitals pay a typical general doctor around 50,000 baht, whereas private hospitals can offer nearly double this amount. According to Jaruayporn, a plausible method to counteract the shortage is to hire additional doctors. But this is impractical in state-owned hospitals due to budgetary constraints and existing regulations. by Mitch Connor Photo courtesy of The Goal & Partners, Facebook #news Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thailands-overworked-medics-spark-reform-debate-as-state-hospitals-struggle-2 -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Monkeypox outbreak: Thailand witnesses spike in cases within the LGBTQ+ community
A significant rise in monkeypox cases within Thailand was reported by health officials this week, issuing a stern warning for men within the gay community, who seemed to be at an increased risk, to exercise necessary precautions amidst the ongoing monkeypox outbreak. Dr Tares Krassanairawiwong, heading the Department of Disease Control, disclosed in today’s press conference that, following the occurrence of the country’s inaugural monkeypox case in July of the previous year, an additional 91 infections have since been logged. He said… “It is alarming that last month alone, we saw a horrifying spike with around 48 new cases. This is approximately 2.3 times the figures recorded in May, which stood at only 21 cases.” The director-general further noted that the 48 recent diagnoses were all within the gay, LBGTQ+ community, and shockingly, nearly half of them, translating into 22 individuals or 45.8%, had a history of HIV infection. by Mitch Connor Photo Courtesy of Freepik #news Full story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thailand-sees-shocking-spike-in-monkeypox-cases-in-the-msm-community-2 -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-07-03 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. Settha Calls Possibility Of Pheu Thai/Palang Pracharath Coalition A ‘Lunatic’ Idea
REAL ESTATE TYCOON Settha Taweesin today (July 1) called the possibility of a brand new Pheu Thai-led coalition with the Palang Pracharath and without the Move Forward a “lunatic” notion. Though Settha, who contested last month’s election as one of a trio of Pheu Thai partisan candidates for prime minister, did not rule out such a possibility, he bluntly called it so “lunatic” nobody should pay attention to it. The real estate tycoon who was a running mate of Paetongtarn Shinawatra, daughter of de facto Pheu Thai boss/deposed prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, and former justice minister Chaikasem Nitisiri and known as personally close to deposed prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra invariably aired his unwavering support for Move Forward leader/prime minister-designate Pita Limjaroenrat to take the helm of government following the nationwide election in which his progressive camp has become the No.1 largest elected party whilst the Pheu Thai has come out as the second largest one.
