Currently with Cigna, excellent cover, but its through work (which would be a 300k baht per year cover if taken directly).

Can confirm, I have Cigna IPD&OPD for myself and my first child, premiums amount to 400k a year, of which I pay only 35%. Racked up 120k on OPD (MP/MRI Gastro/Coloscopy at Bumrungrad last week, no problem whatsoever. Happy Vegemite I am.

Yeah, yeah make sure meter is turned on when starting journey.

Not always a good idea. If you are in a hurry and at certain times it helps to know what to going rate is. Last week I was stuck at Suk. Soi 8 after a couple of Grabs that fell through. So I went to the reception asked them to call a taxi to Don Muang for a bit more then the Grab rate, and off I as with less than five minutes wait.

So use Grab to know what your ride should cost. Of course this would never work in Phuket where the minimum ride was 200 Baht, and that as far as I can remember.

Believe me, I've traveled to Bali.. Vietnam... Portugal... Spain... all the current hot spots. Mexico was good from 2012 until 2015... then the cartel threw away the rule book on leaving expats and tourists alone.

    How about home?

"Under the current narcotics law, possession of more than 15 methamphetamine pills is regarded as possession with intent to traffic and the penalties range from four years to life imprisonment and/or a fine from 400,000 to 5,000,000 baht.

Those who possess fewer than 15 tablets are currently regarded as “patients”, and will be sent for rehabilitation."

Which is quite lenient indeed, but unsurprisingly they got the wrong end of the stick; they should have introduced a mandatory death penalty for production and/or large scale transportation, etc.

In addition you only need to show either or combined foreign/Thai healthcare insurance minimum coverage required by LTR visa for at least the first five-years of the visa, then again for the next five-years.

Also, no annual trips to CW for renewals. No appointment necessary, BOI will get you priority through immigration Chamchuri Square branch (next to MRT station) and dedicated immigration window.

And no requirement for any funds to be transferred to or frozen in Thailand, you are free to live off your foreign credit card if you wish. Additionally any income transferred from abroad is officially tax exempt.

  6. One has to understand that local police operate as a kind of security service, if you try to get their services for free it is highly unlikely they'll do anything. I have some kind of "red box" subscription, and pay some subsidies to their various social events. Costs me about 1000 Baht a month, very useful so far.

I'm sure some expats will miss the quiet of the Covid Era, but since around 18% of the Thai economy is tourism related, and much of that foreign tourism, it's a good thing in the grander scheme.

I it is the worst thing that can happen to the planet. Long haul flights for holidays must become a luxury if we are serious about our survival. Governments should come up with powerful incentives for holiday destinations that can be travelled to by train.
