Been gone for a long time and it's a crying shame because alternatives to getting on those clogged highways is desperately needed at this time and yet there seem to be a complete absence of creative minds at the leadership level, who are coming up with alternative means of thansport. How about small plane and helicopter rides from Hua Hin to Pattaya? Why is Hua Hin one of the least utilized airports in SE Asia? What would that be a 30-minute flight?

Come on guys you could be doing a lot better than this.

I flew from Pattaya to hua hin. You can do it on a private flight.

Whilst I applaud Thailand for wanting the children to understand Thai culture, my daughter sometimes spends an entire day celebrating some religious day and doing absolutely nothing else for the rest of the day at school.

For those knocking teachers, my wife was a teacher and went to uni/school until 25 before leaving to teach. She was extremely educated for her kindergarten role, she has folders upon folders of certificates. HOWEVER - the teachers are NOT educated about foreign matters, she had no idea what 9/11 was, who Hitler was or that Australia is nearer to Thailand than my UK !

It's her fault, not taking any interest in outside world. Same with my gf and I don't blame education. (She's also a teacher)

  3. In general rates for software engineers in Thailand can get similar to Europe, they are little bit lower but so is tax. For example, one of the benefits of BOI companies is flat 15% tax rate if you are over 200k a month. On top of that we still enjoy huge bonuses 2-5 salaries like people making 20k ????

no Thai post graduate will work for 11k, starting rates are 40

Some people have said that, but I got this from the UK Government Website:

    https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad/international-driving-permit

Vietnam is on the list which requires you to have an IDP 1968.

Are you saying that the UK Govt. Website is wrong?....Maybe it has changed, but this was taken from the website today......

    Check which IDP you need

Check the table to find out if you need an IDP. There are 3 types of IDP:

    • 1926
    • 1949
    • 1968

Update:   I just looked at car rental prices at HCMC Airport.....There were either no cars available or they were incredibly expensive....$168 per day for a Medium Sedan!

    Have to be Plan B.....

I am not saying it's illegal to drive. I am saying you won't find a legitimate car rental company as a tourist. At least I couldn't.

In theory , Thailand has very strong and stringent labour laws, in practical, it's the law of the jungle out there with employers pretty much dictating their own rules.

It's not in theory. It works fine if you can afford a lawyer. They submit quickly.

Would be happy to read any link saying different, but I can't find any.

never happend or rather no case have been registered, doesn't mean it can't happen or does not happen in less developed countries where people fail to make it to the hospital.

No downside to getting a vaccine and it will provide immunity for some time, which is useful here in Thailand with all the stray dogs running around.

No medical professional will risk it.

Firstly, there is an important distinction between being in Thailand on a permission to stay from entering with a Non B visa versus an extension of stay based on working. If the permission to stay is directly from the Non B visa, you are legal, period, nothing to even talk about. (Of course, you may not legally be allowed to work, but that is a different matter.)

If you have an extension of your permission to stay based on working, the situation is more complicated. It is a bit of a grey area. You are correct that your permission to stay ought to be terminated when your employment ceases. However, that does not happen automatically. Your OP talked of a scenario where your work permit was cancelled by the company without telling you. Under those circumstances, the company has acted illegally. Since your employment has not been properly terminated, the Labour Department, on review, is going to treat the work permit as still in effect. Until the company informs you that your employment is over via a proper termination letter, you remain employed, and your permission to stay remains valid. Once you receive a termination letter (which cannot be backdated but can state a future date) you are obliged to share this with Immigration who will cancel your permission to stay.

As I indicated in my earlier post, you should discuss this with the Labour Department who (contrary to what people usually assume) have a habit of being very helpful and fair to employees.

Thank you. This explains the whole process clearly and also answers my concerns.

  8. Hi,

I got fired from my job after few years working and living here, I still have my extension for the time being, but chances of finding decent work in such a short time are slim, so I am considering what to do after it expires.

I thought I would go fly to malaysia and apply for a tourist visa, will this be approved considering I am currently not a tourist?
