Have they really been obligarated though?
Official stats say they are only 20% down, which is going back to 2017 numbers.
In Thailand at the moment, and they are everywhere, just a few less tour groups is all.

Nonsense.
When one vacation, rarely does it crop into their mind "oh that neighbouring country treated us well, i shall go visit".
They come to Thailand because of the climate, 'cheapness', etc
I'm from the UK. Like millions of others, we enjoy going to Europe, be it Germany, France, Italy - never does it even enter ones mind 'oh those pesky Germans, let's boycott these beer festivals'.
It will be the same for the Chinese. Once this is over, they will go on holidays as usual. If they can afford Japan, Korea, Singapore, then they will go there, regardless of whether during a virus outbreak those countries weren't seeming to lick their governments <deleted>.
In saying all this then, it does beg the question why Thailand hasn't just gone ahead and introduced a temporary Ban on visitors from China, like others. Loyalty won't play a part in anyones vacation.
Furthermore, the Chinese tourism industry will return in force.

Unfortunately, it won't be this year as Chinese New Year is over and everyone has lost money & vacation time from their enforced quarantine & work stoppages.

1) There are tourists from other countries other than China.
2) He's probably rite, once this (hopefully) has dyed down, the Chinese will be back.

It wasn't until this virus crisis that i have become aware of just how under the control of China, Thailand has become.
If you actually look behind everything that's gone in Thailand in the past few years, i actually view it alot differently now - especially with whose controlling what and whom.
It is awful to see a once vibrant, independent, cultured country just becoming another Chinese colony. Welcome to the United States of China.

Don't believe a word they say. Just a few days back it was announced by a government minister how there is no chance Thailand will run out of face masks.
Today they're talking about how to make your own due to shortages.
So there's no independent verification of the numbers they give out ?

I'm completely unaware of the system in Thailand - but are these definately real figures, or could there be grounds to say they are hiding true figures?
You could definately see why they would be motivated to downplay everything.

Good grief.
Shameful to be thinking of tourist dollars at a time like this.

So just to clarify - even Hong Kong are putting restructions on Chinese entering, but Thailand is still allowing them in freely !!!!

It's shocking Thailand is not blocking flights from China.
Just crazy.

You also fail to factor in how recovery after national disasters can stimulate the economy. Money starts working.
You can't prevent forest fires in Australia just as you can't prevent draught or cyclones. After vast swathes of land have been burnt, the risk next year is already far lower.
We will see how the exchange rate reacts.
It's not solely Baht that people should look out for. But also inflation.
If things in Thailand are getting more expensive, be it food, drinks, partying, massages, partying, then that inflation can play a far bigger role than any currency.
Thai prices have become inflated - for many reasons of course.

If there is a breakout on the scale that is in China, then the Thai people are in for a rough time.
The Thai government simply doesn't and hasn't put the resources in place to cope with something like this. You won't see any hospitals being built in a week in Bangkok.
Secondly, on a economic point - if there is a large scale outbreak in Thailand, then it's going to hurt tourism no matter what. Surely the better solution would be to limit the outbreak, by temporarily halting Chinese arrivals till the virus was a little more controlled, and further conclusions. If there a large scale outbreak in Thailand, even Chinese tourists won't come ! Furthermore, by going all in bed with China on tourism, they are going to put other nations off from visiting.

That's really not going to reassure everyone - associate treatment for the virus to one of the most scariest/misunderstood illness's there is.

They are back
in Bangkok

I like them, they add a bit of spice to the area.
Really wish street food would come back to Sukhumvit. Miss those late night eating spots.
