  1. Let's go retro but still valid A Woman of Bangkok by Jack Reynolds
  2. I am a fan of the Chonburi - Rayong Team. Those Bangkok - Sattahip guys are rotters. Up the Chong!
  3. I thought a peace process was effected by talks involving the two warring parties.
  4. There are also international border crossings at Beung Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Chong Mek and also the other way into Loei, Nan, Chiang Rai but trickier to get to. Regular buses to Paksan (Beung Kan) and south.
  5. @thai006 Don't fly in. Just relax and cross over at Nong Khai in 2 days.
  6. I suspect @thai006 meant he had a ticket out of Thailand but it made no difference as the IO was not interested in it.
  7. There are a couple of ways up (and down). You are likely to encounter dogs, cats, chickens, macaques and huge Vietnamese pigs on the way. Both ways are steep and require great care due to the roads and the menagerie that lives on and around them. The driver must have been going too fast.
  8. I used to live in an area of Bangkok that had a lot of nightclubs aimed at the Thai not foreigner market. It was a very common occurrence to see Thai blokes (affluent, not peasant) assaulting their girlfriends in the street. It is part of the culture whether we like it or not.
  9. @raz0r21 Well, from that video, it does seem as if DTV's are now considered as one of the "right types of visas" to stay here for a long time. If so, denial of entry reports should for DTV holders should be few and far between. Let us see what unfolds over the first 5 years of the DTV.
  10. Geoff, are you working through every Pattaya news story from the last month? I thought you were in Chiang Mai anyway?
  11. I honestly believe the authorities should use corporal punishment. It would sense a strong message to the idiots who think endangering other's lives is okay because it is Thailand. 12 strokes of the cane or even better a full flogging would be all over the British news. This is the only language these entitled UK clowns understand. I am assuming he is British. If not, just substitute country and nation.
  12. The corpse collecting / accident attending / wannabe action hero foundation lads working for Poh Teck Tung and Ruam Katanyu were shooting at each other in a ongoing turf war often somewhere between Minburi and Bangkapi where the unofficial border was. They used guns. Some of them died.
  13. @ikke1959 Without answering your question, I believe people are prosecuted for reckless driving when they post it on Facebook! And now sort of answering your question, there are in the UK two charges that fall under "careless driving" legislation, driving without due care and attention and driving without consideration for others. "Careless driving" is a lesser charge than "Reckless driving". The law in the UK does not specifically spell out all the instances that can be prosecuted under careless driving but the litmus test that prosecutors and judges use is 'if you did that on your driving test, would you be failed?' Perhaps similar rules apply in Thailand. You would need to refer to the legislation.
  14. "Quick lads, grab him. He is going to drink the blueberry yoghurt."
  15. I am sorry I do not know about agents working with Chiang Mai immigration. However, I am sure that if you start a thread specifying that particular topic, you will receive a lot of pertinent information as many on here will know the answer.
  16. They were shooting each other in Bangkok in the late 90's. Metal stick, pff!
  17. You're not in CNX now, Geoff. This here is Pattaya, yee haw! 🤪
  18. There is no 'if'. My account is genuine.
  19. Not necessarily exploitation of workers (but probably) but definitely exploitation of the the consumer by monopolistic dominance of the industries in which they operate. I am not a huge fan of government regulation but CP stifles any competition. This drives up prices, reduces consumer choice and drives down quality.
  20. I assume you are asking if you can use a Pattaya agent whilst living in Chiang Mai. The Pattaya agents will work with you wherever you live in Thailand. So, yes. However be aware that your extension will be processed at Chonburi Immigration and you may have difficulty accessing some Immigration services like 'certificates of residence' if you go down that route.
  21. The 331 is dead straight in this area, although rising. One wonders how this managed to happen. The van driver certainly would not have expected an articulated lorry to come barrelling over the median strip. As they were travelling in opposite directions, combined velocity could easily have been 150 km/h. Very hard to avoid.
  22. The sentences are unlikely to be announced as a) sentences are rarely reported and b) the case will be heard by the Juvenile system. You will find in general that sentences in Thailand for juveniles may seem very light compared to, say, the US. Judges here are reluctant to imprison juveniles, relying more on the family and the wider community, teachers, neighbours, local police, village headman, to act as a restraining influence and eyes and ears watching over juvenile offenders.
  23. Yes, once you have used an agent to start or continue an extension, Immigration is resistant to you switching back to doing it yourself. They will tell you you need to keep using the agent. The 'fix' for this is to leave Thailand and re-enter thus ending the agent-assisted extension.
