Ok since you plan to have your wife and kids leave by land, do not leave with an overstay. This can become a serious issue. So have them all go to Laos to get another 60 days VE. Since you do not want to pay for an agent, they will need to stay in Laos for 2 nights. In addition on return they will probably be asked for flights out and confirmation of accommodation booking in Thailand. So make sure they have that. Your wife will also probably get a scolding or stern talking to or some fearmongering from the IO.

If 7000 Baht is an issue, wife does visa run to Huay Xai, you look after the kids. 4000 Baht for agent-controlled border bounce. No overstay charge for kids. Again, if 7000 Baht is really an issue. If I remember rightly, wife and kids are on Cambodian passports? Make sure you all fly out and don't try to leave by land border. There are more problems with overstays at land borders. Also if remember rightly, you constantly change your plans. Since this is likely to happen again, I think the best plan would be to pay the 12000 Baht to let the agent do a border bounce for all 3 now so you can relax a little. Wish you all the best.

Trump will trade personal flattery and private enrichment from the world's worst regimes for a free pass from the Government of the United States. In other words he will leverage the Office of the President for personal gain. The losers will be the people of the United States and the Western world. He is completely unfit for office.

Nightmare at the Prachuap tax office
Briggsy replied to thesetat's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Indeed, many have become panicked by listening to unreliable sources rather than coolly analysing the situation and the facts. Once panic takes hold (in any situation) rational decision-making goes right out of the window. -

Nightmare at the Prachuap tax office

A million baht which is unassessable = Zero baht assessable. That would be below the required amount and there would be no need to file a return. Obviously you can file a return if you so wish, that is your choice. However, depending on your level of assessable income, it could be unnecessary. Just trying to help. -

@thesetat I think you may find your assessable income is below the required amount to file a tax return and there is no need to do so. This will save you a big headache. However, to "keep legal" I suggest you keep accurate records of your income and remittances. -

In the UK, absolutely not. The UK does not want unnecessary tax returns taking up government time and money. When you complete a tax return and it is not necessary, the tax authority deregister you for the following year. -

Beware of Non-O extensions, when traveling
Briggsy replied to IgboChief's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Indeed so @IgboChief that is 1000 Baht single re-entry and 3800 multiple re-entry. What are your travel plans? Single re-entries may make more sense. -

Excellent. So your desire to file a tax return is the wish "to keep legal". Thank you for answering that. I guess that means by implication your answer to the second question was not to file would have been illegal. Okay. (See suggestion 1 below) Would you consider, again if you have the time and inclination, the following two courses of action. They are either / or. 1. Don't file on the grounds that your taxable income in Thailand means you do not need to. However, do keep records to show if ever challenged. 2. File a 'zero income return' without asking the tax officials to do it for you. Perhaps you have a little bank interest but if your foreign income is exempt simply don't declare it. I hope you find these solutions helpful. Nobody wants a nightmare.- 160 replies

Thank you for your report. What was your incentive for wanting to file a tax return (particularly when it sounds you had nothing to declare)? And the same question but asked backwards. If you had not gone, what position would you have been in? If you have the time and inclination, would you mind answering these two questions.- 160 replies

Bangkok's New Plan: Beat Traffic with a Congestion Charge
Briggsy replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
It will not happen. This has been raised a number of times but too many decision makers are based in Bangkok even if their constituencies are hundreds of miles away. All important civil servants are based there. Also Bangkok is far too important in a centralised Thailand to upset. The golden rule of politics here is focus on the provinces at election time and Bangkok in between. Finally there is no way they could put this together in Bangkok's chaotic sois and traffic governed by multiple agencies. Trust me, this will not happen. -
This is a fairly standard provincial school bus in Thailand. It is a converted flat bed truck with benches in the rear. You can see from the markings that it is a regulated route under a Department of Land Transport concession. As for the pick-up driver, he should be looking at significant prison time. If he has money, here he will stay out of prison which is scandalous.

Is Chonburi-Pattaya Immigration Addressing Illegal Activities Enough?
Briggsy replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
"Is Chonburi-Pattaya Immigration capable of Addressing Illegal Activities Enough?" As I noted on another thread, combatting organised crime is very hard. If a country is serious about it, it needs dedicated and competent teams to deal with it. Chonburi-Pattaya Immigration unlikely has that and will just sweep around the edges when faced with obvious breaches of immigration law. It would almost certainly need to be organised at the national level with excellent inter-agency co-operation. And probably international (Chinese/Russian) co-operation. Very complex task.- 1 reply
