2022 Foreign Visitor Number Expected To Reach 11 Million: TAT
Blumpie replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
For real, they are not coming. They don't even have passports right now. Stop worrying. -
Everything changes. Thailand is Thailand, a foreign country and they can feel or not feel how they want to. I think that they are wrong, but I digress... Yes, my dentist is in Mexico now. ???? Used to be Thailand. It's not a tragedy, Thailand wants Indian tourists not me. ????

Top things to do in Thailand? IT's simple: Get drunk.
-
Gorgeous photos LOL! BTW, young people go to Bali not thailand now. ????

Yep you sound like a seasoned flyer like me. I prefer ANA, JAL, and even Korean Airlines over Air Canada. They are pretty grim and they arrival times / departure times are something that all travellers should consider. Arriving in Thailand at noon in the heat, confusion, and stench is not ideal. And of course going back, well, we all know the effects of jet lag all too well.

Gen. Prayut to Join Ceremony Welcoming 10 Millionth Arrival of 2022
Blumpie replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Too bad it wasn't really the 10 millionth visitor. Some scuzzy backpacker fresh as a stinky sock from a 12 hour flight with a hangover.... -
Food is far more expensive in Japan, as is transportation etc. Tourism is certainly picking up. Guess it's where you like to stay. I like to rent an air b and b and stay a few months. ????

Oh Jesus Christ.....

Just finished a holiday there, yes there were quite a few thais in line at customs. Japan is very very expensive. I don't think that Thais are as poor as everyone seems to think they are. Well, the rich ones that is. ????

Yep I'm sorry to say but it seems as though I may have been right - tourism is simply not bouncing back in Thailand. And honestly getting that place up and running again would be a monumental task at best. The place is nearly shuttered for tourism with just a few places open. It would be an interesting time of year to visit. I"m off to Sumatra in a day and giving Thailand a wide berth. No thank you. Edited: Apologies, what I"ve heard from thailand is from these forums not from first hand experience so take the places shuttered with a grain of salt!

Not mentioned but dragging on everything is the war in Ukraine, the Chinese tourist drought which will not come back for many many years yet if at all, and better places to go will mean tourism will most likely not recover to what it was. Thailand is not a first world destination despite its hopes and dreams.

I wholeheartedly agree with you except for the "lose face" mentality. This is common in every asian country and simply will not be changed ever. The internal seething towards foreigners needs to change and is changeable - it needs to come from the top. So far I don't see it at all. There is "the truth" and then there is THE TRUTH.

My opinion doesn't matter in this case. The facts are the facts. -

Kids like Bali I prefer other places. And I can get lost and stay lost. -

The days of cheap mass tourism are long over. The hangers on are like me - older men who wish for days bygone. All the kids now are going to Indonesia, and rightfully so. -

This is one of the few times I feel that this is a good thing because... the Chinese are NOT coming back. Just look at the new speeches about zero covid to the neighbours in the north. I would suggest that Chinese won't travel for maybe a decade now. The boon days of tourism based on Chinese tourism are officially over.
