  1. Clearly some breeds are much more likely to be vicious than others. Me, I'd gradually phase them out, programs to reduce their breeding and certainly not allow them into Thailand. So many lovely breeds available. My favourite, Border Collie, so smart but need lots of exercise and too friendly to be a guard dog. If people want a dog that is smart but suited to protect, then German Shepherd, Labrador or Retriever. Why are people attracted to Pitbulls and Rotties? They are somewhat intimidating even if not vicious.
  2. A bit harsh, if not just a populist over generalisation and there's no excuse for this behaviour, other than possible mental illness. I find these corporations can be very frustrating, mostly in wasting my time or simply inane process requirements. But people working in these places are just doing their job and don't deserve the abuse that gets meted out to them. Much of the frustration is a sign of the times as regards process often legally required, e.g. privacy regulations, and shareholders coming before customers. And there are companies out there trying to be more customer focused and socially responsible.
  3. Compared to all the other deaths per day? Everyone's had the opportunity to be vaxed and dare say the vast majority of current deaths are either unvaxed and/or not long for this world. I say vast majority, while recognising many healthy people die every day from various causes.
  4. Yep, I couldn't understand what the point was with reference to $450 for Viet one year visa either. My multi entry, one year visa from Thai Embassy in Canberra was $A300 with little effort. Besides, Thailand might have some governance issues, but I would always feel very uncomfortable settling down in a Communist country - just an aversion I have, especially these days.
  5. Partly agree, as imagine internet hook-ups have much increased. However in Hua Hin the girls are clamouring to get a stool at all the new little bars opening up around Soi 94. Not my cup of tea, but as my wife says, they are doing what they need/enjoy to look after themselves and often family. Find Thai tolerance so refreshing and legacy, religious based Western judgements quite pathetic as well as out of touch with the world at large - now and for the centuries beforehand.
  6. Hey, without all the brouhaha - Why oh why would you present yourself to a public hospital? If you've got Omicron, you will know it (unless symptomatic, so ignorant bliss). Sniffles and throat (me), maybe mild headache and slight fever (wife). So you take a 100 baht ATK test. It will confirm, so you self isolate and test 8-10 days later to ensure you're negative. Some people like to complicate things. Many tourists are now coming over and I'm yet to hear of anyone presenting themselves to a public hospital, let alone getting the 14 days quarantine.
  7. Agree in part, though Thailand is not alone with continued border controls, which really aren't that onerous these days. Just got back. Risk of being hauled off to quarantine if contracting Covid here? How would that happen unless you got ill and went to hospital? I got Covid from stepdaughter 4th day back, and one week later was negative. Being triple vaxed obviously helped, and there was never any risk of quarantine. Thailand has the 4th largest number of national parks of any country in the world, many incredible temples, delightful people who are still smiling and great food. Tourism will come back and pity the authorities are now playing it way too cautious with Omicron a blessing, not a curse.
  8. How did they score Social Life as 94 for Japan and 23 for Thailand? Thailand could well be ranked at the top, and certainly above Taiwan and Sri Lanka, if this category was revisited.
  9. 1 - underway.. https://www.thebigchilli.com/feature-stories/hua-hin-on-double-track-for-new-golden-era-of-tourism 2 - new international flights on extended airport to start later this year.. https://royalcoastreview.com/2022/02/countdown-underway-for-hua-hins-airport-to-become-truly-international/ 3 - have already 4 - they're certainly cleaner than Pattaya 5 - are you kidding me? They've had quite a few for years. Wife worked in one. 6 - agree, needs attention 7 - agree, needs attention
  10. Not if you're being attacked by some stupid monster with the brain the size of a pea.
  11. Likewise, tho only married last July after 2 years relationship (12 months Covid remote). Met so lovely many ladies on Thai Friendly over 18 months and not one bad experience. Mostly is their 40s and divorced but not always, as some had never married. Sex varied from incredible to awkward, which expect is the same the world over. My biggest regret was when one lady was convinced we were going to become an item after a few moths internet dating, and it became apparent after 48 hours of meeting that it wasn't. She was devastated and I never allowed that to happen again. Once I met my now partner, I knew she was a keeper with strong values, honesty and similar healthy lifestyle. Her large Isaan family is delightful, none of the $ traps I hear about and she just lights up the room wherever she goes. My tips - cast the net wide, be truthful and respectful, and once on board, commit. The sorry cases I hear about are usually from relationships where the guy finds a young girl, shacks up with little commitment but somehow expose themselves financially. And gets surprised when the music stops. We intend to live in both countries (I divorced five years ago and have many old friends and family) and when I'm very decrepit, maybe retire to her Isaan village home, which we are gradually renovating. Dating sites are wonderful, but require some common sense and respect.
  12. The clown should be advocating: "court visitors for life - as backpackers thru to retirees - Thailand, the adventurer's 2nd home"
  13. "Many reports indicate it remains quiet" Not sure where those reports came from. Hua Hin is not back to full bar activity but the restaurants are booming and many bars in downtown, Soi 80 and Soi 94 are open. Many snowbirds have found their way back and there are a few Russian tourist families around. At the same a lot of renovating is going on with new places gearing up for the New Year. Avoid the weekends if you can as the place gets packed. Hua Hin police have been reasonable throughout the Covid restrictions (many restaurants been selling beer in various containers) compared to other provinces. Suspect the governor may have something to do with this and they come out with these releases from time to time to placate central command.
  14. I don't think it will be too difficult to attract good medical professionals to live in Hua Hin. It already has a sizable farang community, with many golf courses and other reasonable services. New direct air routings next year and after will make it that much easier for people to visit.
  15. How do you play at 7 Eleven? I'm yet to come across an internet purchase where I've seen the option to transact with crypto. Am I missing a screen field of some kind?
  16. Let's not kid ourselves, this forum thrives on selecting click bait for the usual suspects to run down the country they live in. So many of the headlines are divisive, repetitive and misleading (if translated from Thia media). Many don't even read the article, just throw out the usual predictable lines to each other for likes etc as guess they have little else to do. I don't bother any more on the forums as wasn't getting enough insight or clever banter. Scan the topics to see if I'm missing out on any real news and move on. Saw this topic, and thought I'd vent a little. Suffice to say, I love being in Thailand where I enjoy the freedom, lack of woke BS, my lovely, fit and health conscious wife, warm if sometimes a little hot, delightful inexpensive food and easy travelling, well soon. Find anglo speaking countries, and Oz cities in particular increasingly judgemental, righteous and somewhat neurotic these days, though we'll travel back soon to see my old friends and family.
  17. What are you talking about? One Thai doctor is contradicting the other Thai doctors and epidemiologists advising the government, and you decide to support him. On what basis? And Fox news? You're got to be kidding me. I'm more interested in helping the millions of working class and small business owners who are doing it so tough. Believe far more Thai people will benefit from partially opening than the vulnerable hundreds who might die if they don't look after themselves. Is not that hard.
  18. What didn't work too well in Phuket? 200 cases per day out of 15,000 to 25,000 nationally is pretty damn good. 48 Covid deaths in Phuket since April. Compare this with most regions around the world and it's not bad at all. Here's a great analysis of the Phuket Sandbox data... https://thethaiger.com/news/phuket/phuket-5-covid-19-deaths-2-sandboxers-drop-in-hospital-beds Open those tourist and farang provinces on October 1st to help all those small Thai businesses recover. Let the rest of the country open up as they get their vaccination rates up - they've increased markedly in Hua Hin lately, so expect we'll be fine. Might even better the Phuket Sandbox numbers.
  19. Bookings at the hotel my wife works have bounced back. Khao Takiab beach was packed last weekend with volleyball games, jet skis buzzing around and many people just walking along the beach. Car park was full. Some restaurants are doing a roaring trade, especially if they're happy to serve other than smoothies in their big cardboard cups. Gotta say the police seem pretty good. One time they "busted" a few of us at a place and suggested we close the door to be a little more discreet. Didn't ask for anything. This is a popular Chinese restaurant last Friday, and they don't even sell smoothies...
  20. Rit Rou Chai military base with 213 cases as per the Hua Hin Today article. Was left off the Webfact snippet. Not overly concerned. The good citizens of Hua Hin are capable of sensible distancing and masks.
  21. I got this version from Hua Hin Immigration, which is far better for me. Can simply transfer 65,000 baht each month and show them the bank book.
