The question is, if they need 3-4 weeks to get the ED visa, and the amnesty ends the 31th of july, it's possible? Can it be obtained even if the amnesty period has passed?
-
Which is the best way to get an student visa? School, agent? I think I am too late. I would study thai language.
-
If they are not going to extend the amnesty, they should have announced it weeks ago, to give foreigners enough time, it's very easy, yes or no? But we know they are a lot of close minded people in the government.

Hi Joe. You've been a great source of visa information over these years. I'm also stuck on the visa amnesty. My plan was to get enrolled on a Thai language (or similar) university course here, as I understand there isn't a need to leave the country for those ED visas. However, when I spoke with one of them, they didn't seem keen in helping as technically the visa exemption is already expired. So wondering if my best shot would be to get an extension — which I hope they're going to offer — and then try again to get an ED visa. Any thoughts?
I am in the same situation, I am thinking about the ED visa, but to get it inside Thailand I think is 3 or 4 weeks. And I already extended the 30 days before the amnesty was announced, my tourist visa ended in the end of april, so I paid that 1900 bahts for nothing, very unlucky. I am worried, I don't understand why they don't announce, it's very easy, yes or no?

Me too, I am in the same situation, 60 days tourist visa ended in the end of april, but I extended the 30 days before the amnesty.
-
I want to stay for some more months in Bangkok, but I don't know how can I do.
The overstay option is very risky.
An Student Visa, I would be willing to study the thai language for some months, but if I understood correctly I would need to go outside Thailand, so how can someone get an Student Visa if the borders are close?
I need an student visa inside Thailand, and I would go to the classes.
What kind of agents are those you are talking about? They don't seem very reliable haha
Someone told me that you can buy an student visa in Pattaya, are you talking about the same?
I have a lot of doubts, I don't see any extension coming, <deleted>!

I would happily pay even 1900 bahts each month for the next 90 days. I would like to be here until the end of october, but I am pessimistic about that. Every day looking for the great news and nothing, we are at 10th of july, the thai government should announce soon, it's not difficult for them to make a decision, I don't understand why they take so long.

Same though I have an unused 30 day extension which, I'm told, is still valid. The hospitality / tourism sector seem confident that a further amnesty will be given but how much of that confidence is based on desire rather than reasonable belief? I don't know. That being said their economic arguments are pretty good as are their health related ones. Fella a short while back asked the point of throwing out perfectly serviceable Covid free paying guests with no hope of filling their seat in the foreseeable future. It's been speculated that there could be a charge (1900 Baht?) for what would be an extension (90 days?) Perfectly reasonable but how would they collect the money without large gatherings of people at immigration offices come month end. Something HAS to happen, in my view. If it's just left to lapse then it could be chaos at Swampy come the end of the month
There is also the question of who are those still here for tourist reasons and why. The media sometimes mentions being stranded but I don't see it. Previously yes but now no. What is left is a subgroup of people who can self sustain and thus contribute to the social pot.
My prediction is that they will announce on Monday that the present visa regulations will be extended until the 30th September.
Anyway.... good fortune and stay safe.
About your prediction, I hope your are right! I am here every day to see if the extension is confirmed. I'm pessimistic about it. But, I never thought they would extend it until July 31, so...
I agree with everything you say. The 99% of the tourists who are here can self sustain and they spend money in the country, like me, and like you, and if the amnesty is extended we will continue spending money, renting an apartment, paying the public transport, eating in restaurants, etc, etc, etc... It would not make sense to get rid of thousands of tourists who are free of covid19 and who give money to the country, to a country whose most important sector (tourism) is in crisis. I would like to stay here for some more months, I like the country, I like a lot Bangkok, and I think is one of the safest places right now.
About the unused 30 days extension, I don't know if will be still valid, they gave us 3 months of amnesty. In my case "I used" the extension, because I extended my 30 days, a month and a half before my visa ended, when the exception state was announced I decided to extend as soon as possible, it was a wrong decision. My tourist visa ended in the end of april, so I had the extension until the end of may, technically I did not use that extension but I paid 1900 bahts.

And counter K is for visa exempt, transit visa and others, so can we get a visa exempt at counter K? Then i would choose the free visa exempt instead of a tourist visa ????
I guess this is only for extensions, not for obtaining a new visa, but i don't have a good idea why they send people with a tourist visa to a special counter.
But, which extensions? I think if someone had the 60 days Tourist Visa, if the amnesty ends, will not has any right to a 30 days extension. I did not read anything about that, but my logic says that if the amnesty ends will need a new visa.
And maybe, if there is the chance to extend the visa, it would not be fair in some cases. For example my case, I had a 60 days tourist visa, my visa was until the end of april, I extended until the end of may before they announced the visa amnesty, so I paid 1900 bahts for nothing. I never really used the 30 days extension, the visa amnesty began the 22th of april and my 60 days visa was until end of april. It would not be fair if someone in the same situation but less previsional than me would be entitled to the extension.

You seriously need to look into consequences of overstay. Your sound very poorly informed. Almost past foolish.
If nothing strange happens, I will pay 20.000 bahts in the airport, and if the overstay time is less than 90 days I will be able to return to Thailand in the future.
if I get run over by a car or motorcycle, or seriously ill, or commit a crime, or maybe a passport control in downtown Bangkok, etc... Yes, I could go to jail and they could ban me for 5 years.
I staid in Bangkok in different times, in total more than 12 months, and nothing ever happened to me. In Bangkok, only in the city, I am not thinking of traveling in Thailand, so if the amnesty is not extended I will take the risk for 2 or 3 months.

If the amnesty is not extended, and I think it won't, I'll overstay 2 or 3 months, maximum 90 days. I don't want to return to Spain now, and I don't see any good option in Asia, quarantines and thousands of restrictions. So I will take the risk. I am in Bangkok, I move in the city by MRT or airtrain, I never saw any police passport control or something. I hope they don't run me over, and about the covid19 I think Thailand nowadays is one of the safest countries, a lot of restrictions without cases. So I don't see better city to stay some months. If I could go out, get a visa and come back without 2 times 14 days quarantines, I would do, but if I go out I know it will be impossible to return.

I hope they do, but I don't think they will extend the amnesty. I want to stay in Thailand, I don't want to return to Europe, if you go out from Thailand I see it very difficult to return, so I am analyzing staying overstay. What I don't understand is, now that tourists cannot come to Thailand, the tourists who are here spend money in the country... wouldn't it be interesting for Thailand's economy to extend the amnesty? Or the other option, someone said, 30 days extensions for 1900 bahts until the borders in Asia open.

I don't think so. There is a discussion in an other thread. Vietnam announced that asking an eVisa will be available again in July, but didn't say anything (AFAIK) about who will be accepted and about requirements to come.
Edit: No official announcement that I saw, but these kind of limitations : "Vietnam would consider opening its borders to foreign visitors – if the country they are coming from has gone 30 days without any new cases of COVID-19, experts have said" from here by example.
Ok, so we will see in july. In Europe they are opening borders, countries like Italy, France or Spain which had thousands and thousands covid19 cases. I know Asia is very different, but in some countries I don't see any reason to continue with high travel restrictions. Vietnam should be one of the first opening borders because they contained very well the virus.

Not even guarantee that he can make it to Vietnam in the first place!
Still closed. No opening date given yet.
Yes, the opening date is the 1st of July.
After 31th of July only the countries with stupid governments will continue with the restrictions, so one of them will be Thailand at 99%.

I would like to be in Bangkok august and september, but if there are many difficulties to return with the visa, I will choose another asian place, I can go 30 days to an asian country, and 30 days to another. I imagine that some countries will not be as restrictive as Thailand. Now for example in Thailand, we don't have covid19 cases and we continue with this ilogical curfew.

Not possible , you would have to obtain from another country. Even so, you would probably be denied. I would not waste my time to be honest.
Why will be denied? After 31th july I want to travel to Vietnam and then return with a 2 months tourist visa, is not possible? Even if they deny me in the thai embassy, if I return in a flight I would have (in theory) 30 days of visa. Vietnam don't have covid19 cases, so I guess after august Thailand will not force a 14 days quarantine to flights from Vietnam. I guess after 31th of july the restrictions in Thailand will be more logical, but anything is possible with this ilogical leaders. Sorry for my english.

I hope after 31th of july the 14 days quarantine will not be necessary when entering Thailand. The tourism industry is very important for Thailand's economy, if you want a lot of chinese tourists spending money in your country, you can't have a 14 days quarantine after august.

I extended my 2 month tourist visa until the end of may. I want to stay more time in Thailand, and my idea was to go out to another asian country, and then return to Thailand. I want to confirm what this news means. Would I have an automatic visa extension until the end of july? This seems too beautiful to be true, so I guess not. Or would I need a letter from the embassy, etc? But in that case you need to go to the inmigration office. Can someone confirm me please?

I am in a similar situation. I extended my tourist visa 30 days and I have until the 29th of may. I want to go and comeback with another 2 month tourist visa. I don't know which country will be the best option. I did my previous tourist visa in Hanoi, and my idea was to go to Yakarta for the next, but now I don't know.

We are all guessing about the situation two months from now. My own view is that it will still be very difficult to visit Thailand as a tourist in early June. At a minimum, I think you will need heavy health insurance, plus tests confirming you are Covid-19 free. Once you leave Thailand, I think you should assume it will be some time before you can return. Further, even assuming borders open, I can imagine neighbouring countries having similar strict conditions before you are allowed to enter.
Thanks for your opinion Tim.

Hello, I am new here. I have a tourist visa until the end of may, I made the 30 days extension. I want to stay three more months in Thailand. How do you see getting a new visa on those dates? I mean in another asian country and go back to Bangkok. My plan would be go to another asian country at the end of may, and then comeback with a 2 months tourist visa, extendable for one more month. How do you see? Nowadays it would be impossible, but I hope in june will be different.

It says there "only for extension with reason of tourism and certificate by an embassy", so I don't see the spanish embassy doing any letters, the borders are open in Spain. Anyway nothing official yet.
