Don't come to Chiang Rai, it's brass monkeys' weather.
Stay in Bangkok with the wimps.
Serious advice - don't get legless, and don't carry too much cash. 2-3K baht is all you should need for a night on the town.
2-3 k ? By the time the ladies in Stumble Inn have honed in on him he'll be bahtless by 8 PM.

I don't honestly know, How about having a 'trusted' friend in the Philippines use your debit card there once or twice a month. Set a limit and maybe that will fix the inequality that the system promotes.

Hi Negita, I'm at a similar stage as yourself. Diagnosed 14 months ago , 28 shots on the Linac, 5 shots of hormone. I suffered a major reaction to the treatment at around the 22 Linac shots which hospitalised me and since finishing the full course have been on a steady course of regaining strength and health. I would not say I have any issues that are not manageable or restricting my lifestyle however there have been and are side effects as follows:
Hormone treatment hot flushes are crazy in a hot climate and when they occur it feels like my head is boiling. I would not say it has altered my moods and certainly not led to depression. Decreased libido but not completely destroyed and I didn't put on any weight. Benefits are I am now always correct when I have a discussion with the wife.
Before diagnosis and treatment I was visiting the bathroom 3 times a night and this is still the case. It's a combination of that and age that leaves me tired in a morning. Personally I believe most of my lethargy can also be put down to age, I'm 'only' 71 but if you're active at 80 then I would take that as a bonus.
My PSA is <0.08 and I will continue with the hormone injections for another 9 months (2 years in total). I understand once they finish my PSA may increase. Obviously staying in the UK will allow you treatment for free, however I opted to pay and have all my treatment in Thailand (Siriraj Bangkok). Although this is a public hospital the treatment and service has been excellent, and I hate to say this calm and civilised compared to some of the situations I experienced in the UK.

Train, infrequent and 3rd class is a bit hard on the backside. I don't know the exact fare but 100 baht should cover it. But most important (for me) is it's multiple times safer than some of the F1 bus drivers.
Oh, and stop off in Cha Am, better beach and caters for long term residents rather than tourists.

You need to watch the YouTubes with the drunk squirrel. They are hilarious.
I recall a science/history channel once documenting the effects at a certain time of year where elephants consume huge amounts of fruit and it ferments inside them. The effect a few days later is hilarious with totally out of control 1 ton beasts rolling around drunk.

Bob Smith in Thailand could be any of 10,000 Bob Smith in the UK.
As we have no ID cards in the UK.
30 minutes ago, Thaindrew said:its all linked to your tax id number, its almost impossible to open a bank account without providing one.
My names Bob Smith, the 'authorities' in Thailand have no idea of my address in the UK, they don't have my bank details in the UK, in fact other than where I live in Thailand and receiving the 1,900 baht for my extension and my passport number which is not linked to any of my banking they know sweet fanny adams about me. Ive never been in the forces but I know how to keep my head down. I have a bank account here for my 800k but don't have a tax ID, so where is this linking of information and identifying my personal details coming from. If there's a problem with securing my personal assets then I'll look at the remaining countries outside the OECD / AEOI.

Only 4,800 (ish) for full health check at Siriraj. Next to Icon Siam building. Takes most of the day and an explanation of the results the same day by doctors with very proficient English.

Ridiculous to attempt to change overnight. They should have introduced it slowly over a period of a few weeks.

Boy cat or girl cat, just have them neutered and that will remove some of the potential problems. I bath my male cat frequently and he smells clean enough to sleep on our bed. You will never know if a problem will arise with a neighbour; if I lived next door I’d probably volunteer to look after it when you are away, but others may protest even if there’s very little reason.
I have a house with land so our cat goes out and I personally wouldn’t want to keep a cat indoors, however many people do and if that’s all the cat has known then they are probably happy watching tv, eating, sleeping and fighting with balls of wool.
Losing your cat if you have to have it removed from your property would be tough. I had to pay someone £500 to take one cat off me when I came to Thailand, that was hard but nothing compared to my last one that was run over a few months back.
I would go for it.

Sad that a Tea Shop has to have a security guard. Regardless, brave man for acting. Fortunately it appears the two victims will recover physically, unfortunately they will probably suffer mentally for many years if not for the rest of their lives.

I presume by 'draconian' you mean huge financial penalties that would render me baht-less. In which case I would be on a plane within hours back to the UK. Come to think of it that would be even worse than being baht-less here.....I'm off to the tax office as soon as I've finished my coffee.

Sorry I can't help with specific details on a remedy. I've had similar problems maintaining a GiffGaff number, ( they cancel the number if you don't use it for 6 months). OTP's are the bane of my life, they frequently don't arrive or exceed the time limits.
Again, apologies for having no solution for you , however I can recommend downloading the bank app if they have one to your Thai phone and using that to receive OTP's. I have several and they also have the function of notifying me of any transactions within minutes or even seconds of me using the bank card.

I came out to Thailand in 2009 and was here for the political disturbances of 2010. I would have never thought that the future in Thailand was going to be so relatively peaceful and that the UK would degenerate into chaos. Or did I.
A solution appeared to have been reached here. I feel that a solution in the UK is a long way off if not impossible. Sad times.

All the positives can also be said about Cha Am where you will get infinitely better beaches and a quieter life absent of horrendous traffic and overrun with tourists for half of the year.

All the above 'The Real JFK Coverup' has been examined and dissected by numerous people over the last 50+ years resulting in over 40,000 books. This short documentary reveals nothing new in terms of questions and all of the points have been analysed many times over. I have studied this subject for many years ( I was 10 at the time) and place my conclusion firmly in the Occam's Razor box. Oswald saying he was a patsy when he's exiting the building rather than staying in the area along with all the other crowd of onlookers, then going to his lodgings to get a gun , then killing a policeman. The only way I can see that standing to reason is if Oswald was not the Oswald that was in the Texas Book Depository.

If you read the t's and c's of property insurance in Thailand then it's no wonder anyone insures. I used to work for one of the largest insurance companies in the UK and a 'comprehensive' policy was more than favourable to the insured. Here not so much. Then consider that the bulk of properties here have concrete walls and a steel clad roof, makes fire insurance not a priority.

That's two lives ruined. Makes my decision to never be out too late and my mothers advice not to talk to strangers a wise one. Hope it wasn't politics/money/a lady/ religion that caused it. RIP the Aussie.

For what it is worth, you can still get into theme parks, water parks, Disney thingies etc free or reduced rates.
Friend of mine is just into her 60's and she has just found water parks.
Now she drags her husband around Thailand to any that she can find.
I can't afford to travel to the theme parks any longer though.

A few years ago a minister in Thailand brought up the subject of dual / gouge pricing for ex-pats. Well that fell on deaf ears.
I’ve been here 12 years and using the MRT for the last 7 of those. I’m 70 and took advantage of the ‘senior’ ticket rate…. until last week.
New rule was pointed out to me at the ticket counter… Thai only.
Emailed MRT and they confirmed this in a reply. Won’t break the bank but I’m starting to think I need to create a rule here that’s in my favour.
Regardless I hope me and the other 5 ex-pats in Nothingtodo-a-bhuri hit their bottom line hard by deserting the service.

Hate to disagree, but this has the cockney maid written all over it. She had the key to the room and complete access. We are not sure yet of the weapon, but the location's pretty well known. As yet there's no motive, but the the investigators are looking at a connection with the government. Apparently some of the deceased were civil serpents.

I've just visited China from here in los. Uk passport can obtain 144 hour transit visa obtained on arrival in certain areas ( I visited Guangzhou ). Canadian passport holder can obtain visa free of charge on arrival for 72 hours. Apologies if that isn't long enough.

It appears from the report to the BBC that the gunman was on a roof 150 yards from the podium. In this elevated position a gun shot 'clipping' Trump's right ear would have then travelled on into the crowd of his supporters behind him. If there were a number of shots fired (as can be heard), presumably towards the podium anyone know if this is where the fatality occurred? Looking at video of the shooting the supporters immediately behind don't appear to have anyone injured.
Repair for HiFi amp

Any advice on a repair shop for a HiFi amp in the Nonthaburi area? Could also look at any area in NW Bangkok. Thanks in anticipation.
