  1. I have used EMS several times sending documents & parcels to and from Thailand. It works fine.

You are able to track the item(s) through the Thai Post Office.

I have also found the prices to be very reasonable.

I believe the item can also be tracked once it reaches the country of destination through that country's post office. Though I've never used it, so I stand to be corrected.

  2. Long-standing pre-existing thread on this topic here:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/British-Fili...87.html&hl=

British/Filipina Couple Flee To Thailand From Adultery Arrest In Philippines

which has now been updated with the opening post.

Apologies, but the last post was 2 1/2 months ago, prior to you updating it today.

I was not aware that the topic had been covered previously as it is on the front page of the BBC English news.

  3. If they get visas to even enter the UK, let alone settle there, it makes a mockery of the entire UK visa system.

They knew that what they were doing was illegal under Philippine law but went ahead anyway. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Then they go crying to the UK authorities about not wanting to split up a "family", persecution in home country etc.

I agree with you entirely. But hey, it's the UK.

  4. "A Wiltshire man has gone on the run in Thailand after being sentenced to jail in the Philippines for breaking the country's strict adultery laws.

David Scott, who fled to Thailand with his Filipina partner Cynthia Delfino, was facing a nine year prison sentence.

Under Philippine law it is illegal to have a relationship with a married man or woman, even if they are separated."

Blimey, I know more than a handful of Filipinos that are in relationships with separated men.

  5. There aren't any hotels closer than Bandar.

I'm afraid your imformation is not quite correct.

    There are hotels outside Bandar.

There are 2 that I know of in Jerudong, which is 5 mins drive from the Empire. "The Holiday Lodge" and the "Asma".

There are also hotels in Gadong, Kuilap and Rimba, which are just outside Bandar. Though you could say they were "suburbs.

  6. hi, i need to go to the empire hotel and country club for a golf tournament, as nice as that hotel sounds it s a bit out of my budget, does anybody know if there are cheap accommodation options within about 20 min drive of that course and travel options to and from there?

    thanks alot for any help

I sent you a PM suggesting a couple of hotels etc.

This should be of some assistance: http://www.tourismbrunei.com/info/place.html

I forgot to tell you about the "Asma" hotel.

  7. believe it's alcohol free.

Brunei is a dry country, but non muslims are permitted to bring in 12 cans (330ml) of beer and 2 bottles of wine or spirits.

If you do bring in alcohol, you will have to fill in a customs declaration form.

  8. Hi,

Would like to know if anyone has had a stopover in Brunie.

I am coming to Thailand in September but have a 17 hour stopover in Brunie.

Just was wondering is there a night life of any kind. Or if there is anything worth seeing while I am ther.

    Thanks

Rather you than me for a 17 hour stopover. It's bad enough just having 2 hours at the airport, let alone 17.

There are no bars in the airport. There are a couple of food outlets that are pretty poor. No Mac'Ds, KFC etc.

There is no nightlife as such in Brunei. There are however a few hidden places where you can get a few beers. They will cost you $5.00 BND/SGD each. But you will need to ask around.

RBA do stopover tours. If you are desperate for a beer, they may take you to the bars just over the Brunei Malaysia border. Around 30 mins drive from the airport. But be advised that immigration there closes at 10pm.

If you PM me, I can let you know where there are a couple of places to get a beer.

  9. When I come to LOS, and am not sure when i will return to NZ, I use, Royal Brunei.

They will change your return date, no problem, no charge.

I do not think it has changed since last Nov.

Normally I use Thai, but RB gives some real cheap deals at times, worth checking out.

You have to be careful with RBA.

Some of their lower priced tickets can't be changed. some can be, at a cost of around 15-20 GBP.

And others can be for no charge.

You need to check the small print.

  10. I'm booked with US to fly Via Tokyo & Seattle to Chicago in July, however the Flight was booked for me using someone else's ( Father ) Credit Card in the US & the E-Ticket that i have received has a stipulation saying ** THE CREDIT CARD USED FOR THIS PURCHASE MUST BE PRESENTED ON CHECK IN **

It can't be presented at Check In as it is my Dad's Card & he is in the US..

So i'm thinking of options around this ..

1 ) Speak to US in BKK a couple of days before flying & advise that the Card can't be here & can i use a copy ??

2 ) Just turn up & try to talk my way out of it which i'd prefer not to do so i can sleep at nigth instead.

Before my wife and I got married, I furnished her with a copy of my passport and credit card.

She was asked by BI,TG & PG on more than one occassion to show the card. The copies were sufficient.

You may also be able to get a form from you airline which will give authority to travel without showing the CC.

Personally I think you should contact your airline and seek their advice sooner rather than later.

The following is taken from the BI web site, which may be of interest.

    IMPORTANT NOTICE

Royal Brunei Airlines has implemented Present Credit Card (PCC) for payment made over the internet.

You will be required to present your credit card used for payment at the earliest convenience for validation at a Royal Brunei Airlines office or at the airport counter before check-in.

If the payment was made with a card other than your own, the card owner has to validate his/her card at the nearest Royal Brunei Airlines office before the date of flight.

If the payment card is not validated, the passenger will not be accepted for travel.

PCC can be bypassed by signing a waiver of liability. You may opt to fax a duly signed Declaration Form following the instruction below:

Continue making online booking - obtain the reservation number on the successful booking.

Fill in the reservation number in the downloaded Declaration Form and complete the required details.

Fax the completed form to +673-2222211 with clear copies of photo ID (preferable passport) and front of credit card. The copy of photo ID and credit card has to be signed by the owner.

Upon receipt of your duly signed Declaration Form, we will remove the PCC restrictions from your ticket

  11. The wife and I got our meter taxi from the airport to Hua Hin and paid 2000 Baht.

During the trip, my wife arranged with him to pick us up from our hotel and take us back to BKK, which he did for 1900 Baht.

We were more than happy with the guy.

What amazed me was that he was quite happy to drive down from BKK to Hua Hin empty to pick us up.

I'd be interested to know what the fuel cost would be for a round trip, and how much the guy would make.

  12. you go thru the imigration together, but in a different lane,if the visa is all above board its not a problem

Her visa is above board. And slightly off subject, only took 48 hours to obtain from online application to collection of her passport. (though not in BKK)

By different lane, do you mean the European Passport holders lane(s) and the Non European Passport lanes.

Please tell more ....On-line application and collection from where?

You have to apply online through the Brit Embassy for a visa. http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/

We went through the British Embassy in Brunei. Where we live.

Was amazed how quick and easy it was. But the embassy here in Brunei is nowhere near as busy as Bangkok.

  13. You can both go together through the same channel - just choose the shortest queue, doesn't matter if it's the EU channel or the 'Other Passports' channel. This certainly works at Newcastle - done it twice. I was uncertain about it so I queried the Border and Immigration Agency/ Border Control and was told that it is not their policy to split up families at immigration. So, no problem.

As a matter of interest, this also works when re-entering Thailand at Suvarnabhumi!

    DM

I had heard that immigration don't like splitting up families, but wasn't sure if there was any truth in it.

We've never had a problem at BKK when going through the Thai passport channel.

It's good to know that common sense is used.....sometimes.

  15. My wife and I are going to the UK for a couple of weeks R & R. This will be her first visit and my first trip back for several years, so I am a little out of touch with what's what.

I was wondering if she, as a Thai passport holder with a valid tourist visa, can avoid the "snake" and come through immigration with me, British passport holder. I am also her sponsor.

I've never had a problem going through Thai immigration with her. I was hoping that UK immigration would be equally accommodating.
