  1. Not a big difference indeed. But then supermarkets mark up more. Was at Makro yesterday and it seems that prices were up 7 baht compared to last week for a pack of 10 eggs. When everything goes up a bit except people's income, then it makes life harder.
  2. They are getting paid for it. China is exporting a lot of garbage and pay countries to take it. Very sustainable, right?
  3. You are pointing out something very accurate, not every country has universal healthcare. I just wish Thailand did in this situation.
  4. Wouldn't be surprised if he bought an Elite visa and lived like a king here until he can sort things out. Quality tourist at its best. Really, he should be sent back to be dealt by his people. But hey, this is the world we live in and Thailand is not going to take a step against dictatorship, right?
  5. I try to forget such rules exist, but you are right, I'm just being naïve ????. What a world we live in...
  6. Beautifully done by Bangkok hospital... A really humane way to deal with this tragedy. I find this absolutely disgusting. Because of the nature of the incident and how it has affected the country, any hospital should have rushed to offer free/reduced treatments for the victims. Would have costed a bit but that would bring them much better returns in the long term in term of reputation and image. And only 10k so far from the owner of the pub... What a joke especially since his lawyer his praising him for being such an upstanding young man.. The whole story is sickening honestly. Edit: I realize she is Vietnamese, but again that will not help with Thailand's international image at all. It shows foreigners are just second class liabilities.
  7. Ah yes... Blood will probably ruin them as well though
  8. I think it's just my English that let me down here. What I meant is that seat belts and helmets are meant to save people lives. Not just your own as you rightfully pointed out.
  9. Well, I mean, that was my point. Seat belts and helmets are meant to save lives and that's why they should be mandatory. Also, the crazy thinking part is when people think: "other people can do whatever they want, not my problem". As you explained, there can be consequences beyond themselves not wearing protection. Clearly the way I wrote earlier was confusing, please excuse my English skills ????
  10. That's crazy thinking to me. Wearing a seatbelt in a car or a helmet on a motorbike is only to protect your life. There is no downside to it. Not trying to argue with you, I'm just seeing things differently. I believe these laws requiring our safety are a necessity and should be enforced.
  11. I never understood people who don't wear their seat belt. It doesn't cost anything to do so and can potentially save your life. Especially in a country as dangerous as Thailand on the roads... Whatever vehicle I get in, that's the first thing I do as a reflex.
  12. More holidays, just what most companies needed, yay... "You see, Bangkok's traffic has greatly improved thanks to my government"_ Prayuth at the APEC. The whole thing is a joke, hiding things under the carpet as always.
  13. 2 most likely scenarios if he gets bail: - He goes to a temple and become a monk for a while. Becomes reborn a new man while many brown envelopes are being exchanged and he'll be free as if nothing happened. - He gets the heck out of here and he'll post pics of himself on social media partying with the likes of "Boss" in London, Geneva or Dubai. Unlikely scenario: justice is served and he goes to prison for a lengthy period of time. Bottom line, it all depends on his family's actual wealth.
  14. No idea how much it'll come per person, but it is still a good initiative. Medical staff are underpaid worldwide considering how much they are important.
  15. Problem is, people are probably buying into it now and we'll have news about it a year later stating that hundreds of people got scammed by it for hundreds of millions and that the suspects already ran away 6 months ago. Proactive is a word Thailand should use more.
  16. Thank you so much for your answers. I had no idea she would not need financial proof. I will relay the information and hopefully something can be worked out.
  17. Hi guys, Sorry to post this late but this is kind of an emergency. My GF's uncle (Thai) is in a hospital in Bkk at the moment and there is no predicting if he is going to make it. Chances are, he won't. Thing is, his wife (German) came back to Thailand earlier and her exempt visa expires on 08/08. She is above 50 but does not have the financial requirements for either retirement or marriage visas. She lives in Hua Hin. They have no children together. She is in a very poor physical shape (has to breath from a machine). She is not willing to go to a hospital to try and obtain a medical visa... That's how bad of a shape she is in. What kind of visa could she try to apply for back in Hua Hin? I know she can get a 30 days extension, but what could she obtain beyond that? Agent routes are most definitely open and recommended, she just wants to stay here in Thailand to be with her husband. Beyond that, I don't know. Thank you very much in advance for your answers, any help is appreciated.
  18. Not bad for long term investments. Real estate prices are going up and the land value will keep on increasing year on year. Foreign arrivals seem to be higher (although still not enough). If you can buy a failing hotel (due to Covid) at a low price and keep it for at least a decade, it should be profitable. Problem is, you also need a good amount of cashflow because you would probably still loose money on the first few years. And we never know what will happen globally tomorrow: new pandemic, WW3 among other things which would kill tourism again. Most important, good way to launder money... Hence why I'm not surprised a lot of investors are Chinese.
  19. I can understand oversights, but how in the world would a snake head end up in an airline boxed meal? Who is their food supplier, a zoo???
  20. Good on you to help her and good on her to pay you back. Simple scheme, but happens too rarely..
  21. Surprisingly, GF's daughter was also the first one to admit she couldn't drive yet. Will need more practice with us on quiet roads. I though she'd want to borrow the car right away, glad she realizes she is not ready yet.
