There is no such thing as a free exchange/withdrawal.

Its a credit card purchase or cash advance, credit card exchange rate, credit card fees, credit card interest.

Even a debit card, is a credit card, its just that your bank pays it off from your savings after each purchase/cash advance.

A check of bank, or even worse, credit card statement will show a crappy exchange rate, fees levied by the credit card company or home bank.

The fees can also be hidden in what it costs to run your home account, some banks may offer no foreign/transaction fees etc, but the account has a ridiculous yearly fee, requires a minimum balance, minimum monthly deposits etc.

None of the above for my Halifax Clarity CC.

I also use my Halifax Clarity card and as you say, no charges, FX fees, withdrawal fees, you just need to make a cash transfer the same day to avoid interest. You can use Bangkok Bank or other banks, it's trial and error to find a friendly bank that allows it. Kasikorn had a 20,000 limit, another bank 100,000

See my post above re interest. Also, I regularly withdrew 70k+ at a time from my local branch of Bangkok Bank.

If it is a credit card, then you will almost certainly incur FX fees and immediate interest accruing on cash withdrawals, it is possibly one of the worst ways to obtain cash.

OP has a Halifax Clarity card. No fees for foreign withdrawals. it also gives you the Mastercard exchange rate which is usually better than the bank's rate. The bank uses a card reader the same as a shop and the Halifax sees it as a purchase rather than a cash withdrawal so no immediate interest charges. Before the withdrawal of embassy letters, it was the only way that I ever transferred money from the UK to Thailand. Now I have to transfer at least 65k baht every month by international bank transfer which,  over a year, costs me not an inconsiderable amount of money.

"Despite claims from the Trump administration of a growing consensus that COVID-19 originated from a Chinese government lab, three members of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing partnership and sources within the U.S. national security community are throwing cold water on the theory.

Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada have pointedly not backed up America’s apparent surety that the novel coronavirus was either deliberately or accidentally leaked from a Chinese lab."

Every director on the planet would disagree with you. While I think he is a great actor, multiple sources say he virtually impossible to work with, demands he constantly does re-writes to the script, and makes the crew's life miserable. Not worth it. Life it too short. Be impossible on your own time, and on your own dime!

Hardy would be great. He is an amazing actor, is thoroughly convincing, has the look and is young and believable as Bond. Not sure who would even be in second place. I hear the name Elba being tossed around a lot. He could probably handle it too.

Just finished watching the mini series Taboo. Tom Hardy completely carried it despite featuring several other renowned actors. Brilliant series, brilliant actor- perfect for Bond. Idris Elba? Great actor and always enjoy his work but a black Bond? The Bond movies have already veered too far of the original Ian Fleming concept, would be almost as bad as having a female Bond......or M! 555

Tom Hardy for me, has the potential to be the best Bond ever.

Fox News has reported in recent weeks of an emerging confidence in the United States that the coronavirus accidentally emerged from a biosecurity lab in Wuhan, the initial epicenter of the outbreak. In the aftermath, the news outlet reported, Beijing worked to cover up the mishap by blaming a nearby wet market.

    As I had suggested.

Again, you’re arguing a point I never made. You’re assuming by me asking for an independent investigation that I believe the lab theory. No, I don’t know exactly where it came from. Seems no one does for sure. That’s why an investigation is so important.

This thread concerns Pompeo's announcement that he had significant evidence that the virus eminated from the Wuhan lab, which is clearly a lie. If you want to broaden the discussion out to exactly where it did come from I suggest you start a new topic.

You keep referring to Pompeo and the like as if this is a narrative I’ve bought into. I’ve never once stated I believe this report.

From the beginning, I’ve only ever said this virus originated in Wuhan. Something the CCP were quick to confirm at the beginning of all of this. We don’t know it’s exact origins, so call me crazy, but I’d like to know. I’m kinda in the camp of crazy people who want to find the exact origins and make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Fine. We're all with you on that. For now just take solace in the fact that wherever it did come from it didn't come from the Wuhan lab. The other 4 of the "5 Is" have investigated it and concluded that that theory is nonsense.

  9. Just now, rkidlad said:

What on earth does that have to do with anything I’ve said? I want to see an independent investigation into the origins of the virus. I don’t see why this is so controversial.

Pompeo has carried out an investigation and is now trumpeting what he wishes to be true as a fact. All part of the propaganda war. The CIA are world leaders in propaganda through lies and deception.

Well, I believe this is a thread about the origins of the virus. Comparing Trump to Xi as a way of saying any reports from the US intelligence can’t be trusted seems to be an irony lost on many.

    Not our words.

Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada have pointedly not backed up America’s apparent surety that the novel coronavirus was either deliberately or accidentally leaked from a Chinese lab.

As I said "as reported by the alt right media". Nobody outside the US sees Fox News as anything but a comedy channel.

Kindly provide that evaluation. I am not aware anyone has seen it. The opinions expressed by some of the other countries seem to be in line.

As for the market, It has been all but proven from the beginning that the Wuhan market was not the initial source. Many of the earliest patients had no contact with the market or others who did.

There is also no confirmed intermediary animal source, though several have been discussed.

Wrong on every level. The report on the 5 "I"s was on a news item I watched this morning (BBC i think).

Only the White House and US alt right media have been pumping the Wuhan lab nonsense. The rest of the world has gone with the Wuhan wet market from the beginning.

Mine too but I doubt that it's been done since it was closed. When it does eventually open I might give it a few days before I take the plunge.

Do you have any evidence whatsoever to support your statement?

All of the 5 "I"s (US, UK, Canadian, Australian and New Zealand intelligence services) have had sight of the intelligence that Pompeo referred to. The other 4 have concluded that there is zero evidence that the virus escaped from a lab and it was almost certain that it passed from animal to man directly (Wuhan wet market).

A clear attempt by the White House to further it's propaganda war against China by the use of fake news. Notice how Pompeo didn't actually quote any of this "significant evidence".

    Are you a policeman ?

I was 300 yards from the bar when the raid took place and have spoken to one of the girls who works in the bar. Where were you at 9pm on Saturday 2nd of May 2020? Buriram?

I'm also a friend of the owners husband who comes from the same part of the UK as us and now lives not far from you. I have known Joy for a number of years.
