  1. You think? I'll put money down he'll be back to pay it. As another member mentioned, it's less than the cost of most decent cars in Thailand. The decision has a lot to do with the American's personal finances. For some guys it would be peanuts.
  2. Most temples were built from decades to centuries ago. For example, the newest temple in Pattaya, the Sanctury of Truth, still under construction, is over 40 years old. The temples on Pratunmak Hill are about 80 years old... They stopped putting temples everywhere a long time ago as there are already nearly 34.000 Buddhist temples in current use across Thailand. Temples run on a merit economy, and any fees collected from tourists help with their upkeep. Footpaths on city streets are a local municipal concern, paid for from local land taxes, and in most cases, not paid at all. What does one concern have to do with the other? They are totally unrelated.
  3. As the current most prolific contributor on Asean Now, what if you had to try to live without this forum? What if you had to stop asking dumb questions on here? What would you do with your spare time? Would you contemplate suicide?
  4. No, the boobs didn't give it away either in a couple of examples which come to mind... and the other important asset which I won't mention didn't give it away either LOL. There is a type of silky Asian skin that seems to be very flexible and resistant to stretch damage.
  5. It seems to be some expats expect the average working Thai in a corner store should be an ambassador for Thai hospitality. They have no such obligation. It's not their job. They don't get paid by the government - The Tourism Authority of Thailand. Back in most expat's home countries, do they suck up to tourists in order to make them feel more welcome? I used to live in a famous tourist city in Australia, and most locals found the tourists annoying, unless of course their business was actually a tourist related business in which case sucking up was part of the job description.
  6. You're right. It's a bit strange to complain about Facebook via posting on here. The only difference is that here the attacks are anonymous, whereas your enemies on Facebook are usually known. Facebook is going down fast anyway. The younger generations are leaning toward other media, Tiktok the #1 choice now. Now the stress is not so much about bullying, but how many likes and followers they have. If the youngsters can't get likes they are more likely to end their lives prematurely due to the despair caused by being unpopular.
  7. It's a huge improvement on VPNs, which are detectable anyway. You're not disguising your location, you are accessing your own virtual PC from inside the destination country. There are a huge number of providers for people requiring VPSs in the USA.
  8. Once you've set it up, your PC is basically in the country where your VPS server is located. You're accessing your virtual PC remotely from Thailand. I've been using them from Thailand for 5 years. Provided you find a good company, your Internet speeds will be much faster too. If you need to find the best service for Europe, PM me. There is another option that is even better, but much more expensive - a dedicated server. Most companies provide both options.
  9. A better solution is getting your own VPS or VPS root server. It's like having a PC in your destination country. I've used VPSs in Europe and USA. For example my current server is in Germany, the Internet speed is 2 Gbps and it costs about 11 Euro per month. You connect to it via Windows RDP. I use them for trading but you could run any business on them.
  10. Actually this is a falsehood. I've seen mothers with bodies with absolutely no signs of child birth. No stretch marks, no scars, no loose skin.
  11. In airports, where people have luggage, the concrete stairs would most certainly not be safer. One person in many decades of operation having a leg chewed off by a travelator does not make this mode of transportation dangerous.
  12. It depends on what you're doing. It's not perfect if you like to get off your a** and do vigorous physical exercise. In that case, 20 - 25C is perfect. My gym is held at 27C with fans, and my bedroom is 26C. Just in case you missed the point, and I think you did... 30C was the annual average termperature. An average taken for 24 hours x 365 days. The humidity is also another very important factor to consider.
  13. I'm not complaining about the temperatures and have lived here for nearly 18 years, but... I was showing that the temperature in Thailand is as hot as it gets (not max, but average annual). What you THINK of the temperature is irrelavent as the facts speak for themselves. It's a very hot country.
  14. If that is your philosophy, then the smart move is to stay single. To go into a serious relationship with such a philosophy would be rather stupid.
  15. You didn't say what the current replacement is for "surfing the Internet". I can't think of any better terms. Please catch me up.
  16. Temps are not that hot? The best way to determine temperature in any region is using "average annual temperature" and the hottest place in the whole of Asia is Bangkok. The data is a bit old (1981 - 2010), but the comparisons still valid: WARMEST LOCATIONS IN IMPORTANT SUB REGIONS8. Asia (outside of the Arabian Peninsula): Klong Thoey, Bangkok, Thailand: 30.3°C/86.5°F (POR 1981-2010).13.59°N, 100.42°E Warmest places on earth - average annual temperatures
  17. In the defence of 7Eleven staff, I've mostly found them very helpful. I'm a frequent customer and have had mistakes corrected and "I'm sorry" many times over the years. I've also come across unhelpful staff and even been ripped off a few times. They are all people with their own personalities, both good and bad. The 'friendly vibe' depends a lot on the store and the owner. I have 2 stores closeby to my condo and both stores have a completely different vibe. One hires good-looking staff who are usually thin and the other store hires overweight, less attractive staff. Guess which store has the friendliest, most helpful vibe? You cannot and should not draw conclusions about the hospitality of Thailand based on a 7Eleven experience. It varies with each franchise too. For example, I've found that the staff at Lotus's Mini stores are generally very unfriendly and unhelpful. This leads me to the conclusion that staff training is the reason.
  18. When will people who don't have to rely on these agent services stop complaining in these threads and find better things to do with their spare time.
  19. I have a Daikin unit with such a feature, called "comfort", to direct the airflow up high away from humans. Sometimes, during hot season I direct the airflow toward me as it allows me to use the aircon at a lower setting (higher temperature) to save power. I've never seen an aircon unit that doesn't have air direction blades. Even the oldest archaic units should have them. I did have to get air direction blades for an outdoor unit though. They installed it so close to a wall in a corner that the hot outflow was deflecting off the wall and back into the unit, causing it to overheat. You'd think the installers would be aware of this problem. Other times they installed them too close to the mounting wall to impede cooling inflow to the back of the unit.
  20. A bit more information about the condition of the mother would have been appreciated.
  21. I'm not suggesting not to leave a tip - that's up to you, but I don't follow the logic of being concerned about what the staff are making per hour. It's a job - they took the job and were aware of the salary when they did. It's a business, they need you to buy their food. If the business owners are not concerned about the salary they pay their staff, why should you be? This is the mentality of a lot of tourists. They are not getting paid in USD. They are paid in baht and can do a lot more with 34 baht than you can with USD 1 back at home. Judging on what I see around Pattaya, all these poor restarant staff own motorcycles and cellphones. They are not as poor as many are suggesting.
  22. Talk about an endorsement for Pattaya. I suppose you're comparing your experiences from 20 years ago, but I've been here for almost 20 years and prefer it now.
  23. Obviously the vehicle is purpose built to work in a specific quarry where it will working for many years, saving a fortune in fuel. It could be adapted to many other quarries with similar profiles.
  24. All this blah blah about what allegedly happened, but not a single mention about the condition of the boy, which was all I was interested in knowing. This was all we got: Do you gasp for breath if you're unconscious? He must have survived as they mentioned "attempted murder".
