    Read the original post:

That "routine" was a waste of time for us and the officers at immigration office (and then where ended all those papers, just a waste of time and papers).

Now the officers will have all the documents online on 1 click, that's a win/win solution.

Agreed that the routine is/was a waste of time (and paper and storage of such paper), but you are way more optimistic than I am that with the flick of an app, decades of redundant bureaucracy will come tumbling down.  ?

Do you think that the advance submission of snapshots of documents will preclude having to submit the actual paper copies when you do arrive in the office for the extension?

Yes of course, why would you do it on internet if you have still to bring all that ton of papers ?

For pre-approval, pending final approval upon inspection of actual physical documents (with signature ?).  Remember where you are: Asia -- Where paper documents double-checked (at least) by a second (at least) person is routine.

A pre-approval process would serve to make sure you have all the required ducks in a row before you make a physical appearance?

I installed the APP. I saw that there are many folders: your passport, adress registration etc... inside each folder you can upload photos: it can be photos of documents taken from your phone or scanned documents (if you have a pc/scanner and your phone plugged to your PC) ? Time will tell...

No you have to look closer, for each kind of visa application, you have different folders where you can upload photos from your phone (passport, your adress etc...).

Then everything is linked/saved in your account.

When you will complete everything I supose that there will be a button "submit application". An officer will check it and answer if there is something missing or not. If your demand has the status "complete" then the process will be really fast when you'll go to Jomtien.

I suppose that's how it should work.

Do you think that the advance submission of snapshots of documents will preclude having to submit the actual paper copies when you do arrive in the office for the extension?

No problem with terminology. If you have a 5 year TEV you do not need to do annuals or leave Thailand. I've been on one for 2 or 3 years now, so I should know. There's no financial reporting requirement when you have a TEV, no showing 400k or 800k annually. This is the main function of the annual report.

I post off a TM47 every 90 days & have yet to have any problems, or been told to do anything differently.

(my bolding added in above quote)

I know you believe that, but how do you know that?  Can you quote from some Immigration Act or rule?

Just because the person who processes your 90-day reports doesn't bother checking for a current annual extension, or is under a mistaken belief you don't need one, doesn't mean you aren't required to do one.

Imagine this scenario:  You have not filed an annual extension (nor left Thailand) for two years and then head to the airport to depart.  They notice the two-year lapse, declare you on overstay and ban you from returning for a pre-determined amount of time (based on length of overstay.)

  5. A friend of mine had an app on his smart phone which showed the layout of the stars & planets.  He just pointed it to an area of the sky and the appropriate "star map" would appear.

I never bothered, since I rarely seem to be anyplace with out light (or other) pollution that lets me see more than one or two stars anyway.

Most modern air con remotes have delayed on/delayed off functions, too.  Just set the delay-on to turn the unit(s) on 30-60 mins (depending how granular the time control is on your remote) before you plan to get home.

How can someone with mo connection could build hotel on public area.

The one hotel that I recognized has changed ownership and name at least once.  Is it possible that the original party who owned/ran the hotel when it was first built actually had all the proper licenses and permits but that the subsequent owners failed to obtain and/or retain them?

Until 15-Aug-2018, NH806 -- the BKK-NRT morning flight that connects with the UA flights from NRT to the USA -- is scheduled as a 787-8 with cradle seats and 31" 3-3-3.

    From 16-Aug-2018 to 28-Sep-2018 it is a 787-9 with lie-flat and 34" 3-3-3.

    From 29-Sep-2018 to 30-Mar-2019 it's back to the 787-8.

There are definitely ways to avoid the 787-8 out of BKK on NH, such as leaving at midnight and connecting to a morning NH flight out of NRT to the USA, or connecting via HND.  NH's 787-9 has a vastly more comfortable configuration than their 787-8.

    In biz, coach or both?

    NH 787-8

    - Business = cradle seat (not lie-flat, nor even angled-flat), 2-2-2

    - Economy = 31" seat pitch

    NH 787-9

    - Business = lie flat, all aisle access (1-2-1)

    - Economy = 34" seat pitch

Yes there are ANA 787 with 31".

But I had checked using the flight number (NH808) and saw three versions all with 34".

  10. Yes, you can absolutely lay tile on top of tile.  There is even a special adhesive made for such.

You will need to remove all the doors to cut off a small amount at the bottom to allow for clearance above the new floor height.

Someplace in this forum there have been topics dedicated to the topic, but I'm a klutz at search terms so will let you do that yourself.  ?

Avoid the cheap fans with cardboard vanes that sag over time, and remote control fans that default to ON after power loss.

When I renovated my current condo I decided to splurge and not buy the "cheap-as-chips" (to use KittenKong's apt description) fans I had always used before.  I went with a mid-range fan with remote control.  Learned three things after installing:

    (1)  after power loss when power is restored the fans automatically default to On at their highest speed

    (2)  when using the Off Timer function, they emit a nice alarm-clock-like screech when turning off

    (3)  the built-in LED light only is useful as a night light, even at full brightness

Had I known, I would have bought old fashioned cheap, pull-a-chain models again.

  12. If you're traveling in Economy, JL 787s have roomier 8-abreast seating (2-4-2) vs the more standard seating on ANA (NH) which is 9-abreast (3-3-3).

If you're traveling in Business, the NH 787-8's flown between BKK and Tokyo have "cradle seats" which can be quite uncomfortable.  The way the seat reclines, it painfully cuts off circulation to the back of my thighs.  NH 787-9's are lie-flat.  JL's flights can either be lie-flat or angled-flat, but at least not "cradle".

  13. Googling my symptom or horizontal lines not appearing straight (googling medical situations is not generally recommended, I know...) it can be a sign of macular degeneration.

The earliest I can see Dr. Roy @ Rutnin is 19-April.  Do you think it's okay to wait 11 days, or should I schedule for a different doctor that I can see earlier?  i.e. How quickly can something like macular degeneration progress?

  14. Thanks for the quick reply!  You know me too well -- it's been several years since I've had an exam.

Before I book an online appointment:  can I chose a particular doctor for the exam, and if so, any recommendations?

Decided to see if I could register on web site without making appointment, but it proceeds right into making an appointment, and I *can* choose doctor, so any recommendations would be helpful.

  15. Anybody have experience with an ophthalmologist in Pattaya that they can recommend?  I would also consider going to Bangkok if there's an outstanding candidate there, as these are my eyes we're talking about.

For several years I've felt a bit of eye strain with my right eye, and have somewhat frequent headaches behind that eye.  Today I just noticed that if I close my left eye, that some straight horizontal lines seem to bulge.  Don't know if this is new or I just never noticed that particular phenomenon before.  An ophthalmologist is the right type of doctor to see, right?

    2.  City water was flowing (pressure appeared ok) at time of the problem but when I looked into the tank, it was almost empty. The following day water trickled into the tank, filling after about 6 hours. The float valve is only 3 months old.

Is your water tank above ground, i.e. not buried in the ground?  My comments are based on an above-ground tank.

You say the city water was flowing, but the tank was almost empty.  I'm assuming that at that moment -- when the city water was flowing -- there was nothing going into the tank?

Describing the city water pressure as "ok" is subjective -- do you think it was strong enough to push water up the height of the tank?  If so, then in addition to the float valve (as mentioned above) a possibility is some blockage in the pipe from the meter to the tank.  Can you detach from the meter-end and see if you can easily blow air through the pipe?

I once had a problem with an air con where after a while, but only sporadically, the condensation water would flow into the room.  Luckily, when the repair guy came to troubleshoot was one such time when the water was dripping into the room.  He took a compressed-air hose and blew from the drain hole in the bottom of the room-mounted wall unit.  Out shot a big black beetle from the outdoor end of the drain pipe.  The beetle was very much alive.  We speculated that it would occasionally wander into the pipe for whatever reason, and at those times the water would back up and flow into the room.  Just wondering if there might be something partially blocking the water flow into your tank.

Where I lived in Hua Hin the water pressure was very low and often only existent a few hours per day, usually at night.  Because my tank was above ground, when the pressure was low, it was inadequate to push vertically the height of my tank.  (It was a tall, narrow tank.) Talking with neighbors, I found that that's why many of them installed their tanks underground so that they had a greater chance of filling.

From my experience, albeit from 8 years ago, your passport does not need 12 months validity. However, you will only be granted an extension of stay up to the date of the expiry of your passport. When you receive your new passport, you will need to visit immigration and have all your details transferred and the additional time should then be added to meet your yearly expiry date. This makes sense to me as, being a Brit, we can only apply for a new passport up to 9 months prior to expiry.

This changed a couple years ago.  They still will process the application and issue the extension to the expiration date of your passport, BUT you now need to apply (and pay for) a new one-year extension for any time after the expiration date of your current passport (in your new passport, of course.)
