  1. To give the vinegar a real chance to work, soak paper towels in vinegar, place them on the glass surface and let them sit.  For best results, re-moisten the towels (I use a spray bottle with vinegar) before they dry out.  It took a couple of soaks, but I got one very cloudy shower stall door back to crystal clear.  Not much rubbing required after the soak, either.  The landlord was stunned when I checked out and he saw the clear glass.

Jomtien Immigration told me (2 days ago) that if you travel outside of Thailand, then you MUST submit a new TM30 on your return to Thailand. :wai:

JOOC, *who* at Jomtien Immigrations told you that?  Was it:

    (a) the check-in counter facing the front door

    (b) an IO in the room off to the side who actually process the TM.30

    (c) some other IO

    (d) someone else?

Allopurinol is a very safe drug with low toxicity or side effects and much better than having gout.   Colchicine is only used during an attack and for a short period.  If allopurinol works for you it may never be required.

It's apparently very much a YMMV situation.  My liver enzyme test results went through the roof when I was on Allopurinol:

Aspartate Transaminase (AST) went from 17 to 56 (normal is 0-40)

Alanine Transaminase (ALT) went from 28 to 132 (normal is 0-40)

I've been on daily Colchicine for almost a year and still have occasional twinges of pain in one toe, but it's nothing like a full blown attack.  (I also take daily Sulfin now.)

My advice to anybody is to have a doctor monitor your kidney and liver functions when taking any of these gout medications.

  4. If you run the air con full time at such a low temperature so that the compressor is running full tilt at (or at least close to) 24/7, would there be any cost benefit to running inverters?  Inverters excel at lowering electrical use when they can slow down the compressor during lighter loads and also by reducing power surges when compressor snaps back on after being off, but in this scenario would that be a valid consideration?

  5. The reason to build your own is to enjoy the thrill of the build and/or to get specific components.  To build your own to save money is not really a valid reason.

I've gone from decades of building all my own computers to currently using a Microsoft Surface Pro with a docking station.

Yeah, there are laws on the books about just about anything.  But the declaration statement on import when returning to the USA clearly says items you purchased overseas.  If customs is now challenging that anything looking remotely expensive was bought overseas, well.  I don't know.  Can they confiscate on the spot?  Are they charging you with breaking a law?  Few people have proof or receipts on them of the rings or jewelry they have worn for years, the camera, computer, etc.  they travel with

In my instance, they wanted to charge me the appropriate tariff based on the MSRP of the computer.  Not sure how I talked my way out of it, but it probably was with a solemn oath to register the item before my next trip out of the country.  I don't recall any threat of arrest, but maybe they did threaten to confiscate ... it's been too long for me to remember.

Right! Forgot to add that one in, though I've laughed at it in several posts.

I also forgot Food labels covered up with Thai import labels!

That's a good one. It's really annoying. How dare they put Thai labels over the English so I can't read the instructions or ingredients. They are really hard to peel back LOL.

I've been known to spin all the cans/boxes around in an attempt to find one with a label that doesn't cover the information I desire, often the cooking instructions.  It's been too long since I've made Kraft Macaroni & Cheese -- I need to see the cooking instructions!

  8. My first year in Pattaya (2004) I naively left for dinner around sunset via baht bus down Jomtien Beach Road.  I was dressed in a nice shirt and pants and got blasted with a bucket of dirty water while in the back of the baht bus.  Promptly got out, turned around and went home.  Shirt was stained beyond saving.  Lesson learned.

Every year since, I'm part of the 9+ day Exodus, usually going to New York City, an old favorite haunt of mine with nice spring weather.  As the OP says, the madness is always over by the time I return late night on the 19th (land close to midnight at Suvarnabhumi, get to Pattaya around 2:00am on the 20th.)

One year the madness apparently made it into my condo building when they tossed the manager into the swimming pool.  Actually, I quietly snickered about that as she was an absolute b****, but to know you're not safe even in your building to dash to the minimart in the lobby would add to the stress if I tried to weather the storm and stay at home.

Won't Dr Anna do a simple excision?

I was mis-remembering what mohs was, and after googling it, I realize now that Dr. Anna can do a regular excision -- that's what she did with my BSC.  So, @champken, (a) why do you feel yours needs "needs removing by mohs surgery" and (b) did you ask at BPH for the price of a regular excision with biopsy results later.

  10. Many years ago I was stopped by US Customs in Honolulu and they wanted to charge me duty for my well-worn Toshiba laptop.  They said that if I had truly bought it in the US (which I had) I should have registered it with Customs before departure.  After exiting, I went to the office to declare it and the folks there said "What the heck is going on?  We've had half a dozen people come in this morning to declare their computers and cameras."  They assured me that there was no need to declare it.

Thailand seems to be about 20 years behind.  :whistling:

  11. ISTR that at check-in ANA gives you a card with a diagram of the airport showing available lounge options.  I've used both the Miracle Lounge and the EVA lounge and both were fine.  I've also used the THAI lounges, but they were pretty busy.  All said, though, I'd head for the lounge closest to your departure gate.

  12. For those of you above who mentioned aspirin for heart attack/stroke ... DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN FOR A SUSPECTED STROKE!  If it's a hemorrhagic stoke you can (will?) make it WORSE by taking aspirin.

Only if you KNOW it's not a hemorrhagic stroke, would you be safe to take aspirin, but you won't know that without medical diagnosis.  Just because a past stroke was not hemorrhagic, doesn't mean the next one won't be...
